[Bug 274280] [NEW] intrepid ibex - xorg fails to load: (EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1)

2008-09-25 Thread laltopi
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade from Hardy to intrepid ibex and xorg fails to load. A
gui pops up showing the error message "(EE) module ABI major version (0)
doesn't match the server's version (1) (EE) Failed to load module "dri"
(module requirement mismatch, 0)" and offers to reconfigure xorg but is
not able to do so.

Manually changing the Driver in xorg.conf from "fglrx" to "radeon"
(which xorg.99.log confirms loads ok) does not appear to stick - it is
is changing back to fglrx on reboot.

Error message from:

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so
(II) Module dri: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 0.3
(EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1)
(II) UnloadModule: "dri"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so
(EE) Failed to load module "dri" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

The error message in xorg.99.log (not shown in the graphical error pop
up):

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so: undefined symbol:
miZeroLineScreenIndex
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so
(II) UnloadModule: "fglrx"
(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (loader failed, 7)

The full xorg.0.log and xorg.99.log are attached.

[Bug 270943] Re: drive adapter seen on Live CD partitioner not seen at boot-time - cannot boot after installing

2008-09-25 Thread bllred
While I cannot figure this out, the more I study, I see:

grub sees partition / at BusyBox it has disappeared.

when trying to load newer kernel the wrong partition is
mounted for root, in this case it is NTFS. Due to /dev/sdb
bcoming /dev/sdd, instead.

I suspect it was booting ok before a kernel upgrade.
This is why I am stuck at last-good-boot.

I was mistaken, all drives seem to be there, but the partition
has been removed. All other partitions are present.

If you know what the problem is I'd appreciate knowing.
Perhaps it is due to some error of mine.

It also seems to me that SATAII 3G drives are running on USB
emulation. Far too many USB storage devices - I have one
at times, not several.

[Bug 267331] Re: Suspend no longer allowed in Intrepid

2008-09-25 Thread James Blackwell
I suspect policykit because attempts to use the "Shut down the computer"
applet leaves the following snippet in /var/log/syslog (take particular
note to "Not privileged for action".

Sep 25 03:10:34 comet console-kit-daemon[5895]: GLib-GObject-WARNING:
IA__g_object_get_valist: value location for `gchararray' passed as NULL
Sep 25 03:10:34 comet last message repeated 2 times

/proc/13008/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/13008/environ': Too many open
files

I'm pretty sure I can fix the powerdown problem by running polkit-auth
to add the permission to the user. However, trying it out first by
adding org.freedesktop.hal.power-management.suspend to the user did not
result in the ability to suspend. I was seeing a similiar message
related to suspending when closing my laptop immediately after
upgrading, but before a reboot, after which, suspension was no longer
offered as an option.

This system predates policykit, so I suspect that the package is
assuming settings made during initial install that are not provided
during upgrades.

The nvidia driver is not open source, so the linux community can't fix its bugs.

[Bug 272286] Re: nspluginwrapper 1.1.0 does not support wmode correctly with Flash 10 RC2

2008-09-25 Thread Conn
Daniel,

Unfortunately no. I am using the latest version (1.9.0.2+build6
+nobinonly-0ubuntu2) and it still exhibits the crashing.

Bug #239182 already deals with the original windowless mode bug in
Firefox that was discovered (and fixed) in 3.0.2, and it impacted all
users (with and without nspluginwrapper).

This bug is dealing with an incompatibility between nspluginwrapper
1.1.0 and the newest Flash 10 rc2 (10.0.12.10). This incompatibility
seems to have been introduced somewhere between beta 2 and rc2 of the
plugin.

Yes, that is an easy fix which I have done on all my servers. I don't
agree with marking this priority as low as it breaks heartbeat which is
incredibly important to many non-redhat server implementations.

This release is supposed to be supported till April 2013 (Server)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases. An important package like openvpn
should be supported properly until end of life or lts is worth nothing.
Please push this change into Hardy.

The driver is set to autoinstall itself when the kernel is updated
provided that the kernel headers for the new kernel are available.

Can I see the error you got when you tried to reinstall the driver and
it didn't work for you?

[Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly when pressing the "numlock" key

2008-09-25 Thread Steve Beattie
Would it be possible for some of the commenters to verify that the problem, as
described originally, is addressed by the kernel image in hardy-proposed?
Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. I note that Justin Sunseri has appeared to do this
already, so we're looking for one more tester, though more would be better of
course.
Thank you in advance!

[Bug 272804] Re: Video Frequency too high

2008-09-25 Thread gerard
OK, I'm ready to do it but I've got a "technical" problem.

How to make a copy for you, from Ctrl Alt F1, in command line mode?

If I type the command: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I reach directly the end, how to make a copy of the full log?

I found a solution, but looks like stone age, hope you can give me a
better one!!

I type: ls | less /var/log/Xorg.0.log
so I can read page by page
I take a screen picture with my digital camera
I send you the pictures, but it's a lot, I counted 52 screen shots to do.
I'm not sure I'll survive after that!!! I'll get crazy far before!!

What can I do else,
e.g. a command to send the whole file to my USB key for instance

[Bug 92117] Re: /fan dir empty!

I don't know if this could add information/insight or not, but I also
have fan issues on a Dell: if I resume (using either Ubuntu or Kubuntu)
out of standby often, but not always, the fans kick-in to full speed and
won't stop, and the whole computer slows to a snail's crawl
(excruciatingly). I think there's a few error messages that if you're
quick (and lucky) you can catch. I'm using an Inspiron 9100 with a P4
and 2GB of Ram. Might this be related? And if not...how does one figure-
out if another bug report is already filed?

differences are described shortly in the short description of the driver
entries, which will get visible for the user. So he sees that one of the

[Bug 274297] [NEW] [intrepid alpha6] You must know the format of your partition to enter the mount point

2008-09-25 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Trying to install Ubuntu Intrepid Alpha 6.

In the partition step, the new color are very pretty but, unfortunatly,
not very intuitive and not useful at all. My collegua who was installing
was unable to interpret it.

Choosing manual partitioning because we already had partitions :

In order to assign a mount point to a partition (/, /home, ...), you
have to explicitely tell "Use this as ...EXT3".

It's a bug because :

- Most user don't want to know what EXT3 or anything else is.
- The system already know the answer, he's listing it on the fancy color bar !

I simply do not see the reason for this "use as..". The partition should
be used if there's a mount point. The format should be listed and
"ungreyed" only if the "format" box is checked.

[Bug 270429] Re: [MASTER] passwords lost from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2

2008-09-25 Thread ivan
there is "quick and dirty" workaround - open your "old" signons3.txt in
the Firefox profile folder with encoding latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) and save
it back with encoding UTF-8 (of course make a backup before this). This
should fix it for Firefox 3.0.2.

[Bug 35720] Re: kdesvn segfaults on update

2008-09-25 Thread drx
I strongly suggest to port or backport the current 1.x release of kdesvn
to hardy. I am geting segfaults again with KDE 3.5.10 when committing a
file to the repository and heaps of crazy error dialogs telling me of
UTF8 errors. The author Alwin wrote to me he is not supporting versions
before 1.0 anymore.

And i think waiting for KDE4 to be ready is not a good option. :) kdesvn
is a very handy tool.

[Bug 274302] [NEW] ttf-liberation is without config file

2008-09-25 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ttf-liberation

In Hardy, the ttf-liberation package shipped a file
/etc/fonts/conf.d/91-liberation.conf, which made the liberation fonts be
selected when "Arial" or another Microsoft font was asked for. In
Intrepid, this file is missing - is this on purpose?

[Bug 274299] [NEW] Please sync tk8.5 8.5.3-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-09-25 Thread Alessio Treglia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tk8.5

Changelog since current intrepid version 8.5.3-1:

tk8.5 (8.5.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added missing libxss-dev and libxext-dev dependencies to tk8.5-dev
package (closes: #491629).

 -- Sergei Golovan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:24:51

tk8.5 (8.5.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added a patch by upstream to mitigate a design bug in Tk event system
(Tk events break if built with x11proto-core 7.0.13).
  * Decreased priority of tclsh (and corresponding manpage) alternative
because tcl8.4 is still a default Tcl package.

Thank you for advice.

"debian/patches/debian/03_change_anthy_dic_path.dpatch" equals to
"debian/03_change_anthy_dic_path.dpatch".
And it included in Debian's anthy package too. I thought that it should be
removed to avoid confusion.
Should I remain it? Or should I propose removing patch to Debian Maintainer?
