[Bug 271707] Re: i915, Need TV-Out Quirk [8086:2592]

2008-09-21 Thread Gert Kulyk
Thanks.

No, my laptop (and as far as I know every model of the nx 6110 series)
does not have a TV-Out, there is no docking-station for it, so it should
be safe to disable TV-Out.

[Bug 272669] [NEW] [INTREPRID] INTEL 965GM gives a wrong screen resolution with a laptop ACER TM6292 on a dock station with an external minitor

2008-09-21 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Here is my setup :
My laptop is an Acer TravelMate 6292 with an integrated graphics chipset INTEL
965GM.
It is docked in an ACER docking station
An external LCD monitor is plugged on the docking station (using the VGA
connector).
The laptop's lid is generally closed.

With this setup, the external monitor is set up by X with a 1024x768 resolution
whereas the preferred one is 1280x1024.
The laptop panel (LVDS) is enabled (even when the lid is closed) and is also
set up ith a 1024x768 resolution whereas the preferred one is 1280x800.
Both monitor display the same things (clone mode).
After logging into GNOME I can do a sane setup using either the resolution
applet or the xrandr tool.
This behavior gives a really bad first impression of INTREPID (it was no better
on Gutsy or Hardy of the record)

Expected behaviour :
When the lid is closed, the LVDS panel should be disabled and the external
monitor should be set up with its preferred resolution.
When the lid is opened, 2 possibilities :
-1- the LVDS panel should be disabled and the external monitor should be set
up with its preferred resolution.
-2- both monitor are enabled, set up with their preferred resolution and
configured as "extended desktop" (one desktop on two monitors).

If I use the DVI connector of the docking station the behaviour is
exactly the same.

[Bug 259808] Re: X Lockup in Intrepid (infinite loop)

2008-09-21 Thread Rocco
Same problem in kde4.1.1, nvidia-177. Desktop effects on/off doesn't
matter.

X always hangs just after logging in to kde4, random lockups occurs when
using X.

[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

Many of these in X.org.log.

The look is released after about 30 seconds, and then one can use X
again, until next lockup.

This problem started when installing nvidia 177.70, but doesn't look to
be unique to nvidia.

[Bug 272470] Re: tv card does only run one time, after reboot it isn't detected as a TV-card any more

2008-09-21 Thread mogli
I used the driver from the disk which was shipped with the card, but now
I will try it with the driver from here:
http://tbsdtv.com/english/product/PCIDVBS2.html . There is a patch
included, but there is a problem with it. I think I'll fix that problem
by renaming or linking some folders, which are not found from the
script. But How do I install the driver in the right directory? Which
directory with which command? I don't know much about "make" and
compiling things :-(.

For more information about the card see:
http://tbsdtv.com/english/product/PCIDVBS2.html .

Thank you for helping me :-)

[Bug 192573] Re: plays all sounds fragmentary on alsa backend.

2008-09-21 Thread Diaa Sami
I'm not trying to spam you but I got more info:
the default /etc/openalrc that comes with Ubutntu 8.04 contains the following:
(define devices '(alsa))
(define alsa-out-device "default")

It's the last line that causes problems and creating a ~/.openalrc
overrides these setting completely, /etc/openalrc is not used anymore,
if your ~/.openalrc is empty or contains anything other than the 2 lines
above, you shouldn't have any problems.

[Bug 146854] Re: no sound

2008-09-21 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Can both of you please post the output of
lspci -nv

So I can see if the root cause of both of your bugs is the same? They
could be two separate bugs with the same symptoms. Also, please reply
as to whether or not each of you have working sound in Hardy or
Intrepid.

Jose, you assigned this bug to yourself a while ago. Are you intending
to fix it yourself? If not, it should be left unassigned.

[Bug 267570] Re: Dell C400 (i830) freezes in Hardy

2008-09-21 Thread Elod VALKAI
It works without Pipe-A option after updating to xorg intel driver
2:2.4.1-1ubuntu6.

The screen corruption issue is not fixed, though, and it's not minor.
Characters get messed up, simply missing, or occasionally blinking.
Switching to text and back fixes it, for a couple of seconds.

Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?

[Bug 272679] [NEW] wireless AGN 5100 not able to make connection

2008-09-21 Thread Frank Denissen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-3-generic

I have a Dell Latitude E6500 equipped with a Intel AGN 5100.

In windows I succeed to make a connection with my wireless router using WPA-PSK.
Configuration of wpa_supplicant is correct (tested on other laptop).
Wireless signal is perfect (laptop is very close to the wireless router).

I never succeed to make connection as the local driver always disconnects.
Problem seems to be similar to bug 271638 but there the problem only occurs
when disconnecting/connecting.

with

 awk -v rno=$rno 'rno == $1 {print $1 > "tem"}' DATA

i.e no 'if' needed

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 272672] Re: 8.10 Alpha 6 will not boot with wireless switch on

2008-09-21 Thread Marek
Thank you for your prompt reply. I cannot now reproduce the bug even
though i had the same problem with the live cd and had to use the
recovery option once i had alpha 6 installed (which worked in some
cases) up till 2 hours ago. It was only this morning that i thought off
turning the wireless off. But now all works well with wireless switch on
at boot, strange. Will see what happens further.

[Bug 272683] [NEW] Allow to drag your own avatar

2008-09-21 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

So, I was talking to my girlfriend over Pidgin 2.5.1, she said she liked
my avatar and asked me to pass the photograph to her.

I tried to drag the photo from the avatar square at the bottom-right
corner of Pidgin's main window, but was surprised to see it didn't work.
You can't actually drag the photo from there, just click it.

My request is, please enable dragging the image.

[Bug 272536] Re: Problems with mouse

2008-09-21 Thread Olivier Cortès
Hi,

Here on a Sony Vaio BZ11XN (HW info @ http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony/) with a
volito2 tablet, on latest Ubuntu intrepid: when I click with the stylus, the
click action comes (button, menu, etc), but the cursor gets stuck (doesn't move
any more).
I must move the pen far away from the tablet and back to get the X cursor
moving again.

If I use the touchpad (or an external USB logitech mouse) during the
cursor freeze, I can notice that the cursor moves again (wathever the
stylus does), and it selects some text : it seems that the tablet didn't
notice the stylus button release.

[Bug 259035] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeleteInputDeviceRequest() (wacom)

2008-09-21 Thread Olivier Cortès
Hi, just to confirm :

On latest ubuntu intrepid, with a wacom volito2 tablet :
  - plugging in the tablet at any time (boot, gdm, GNOME session opened,
desktop apps running or not) is OK and tablet works in absolute mode (cool !)
  - unplugging the tablet under X crashes X.

BTW I encounter
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wacom-tools/+bug/272536 too, and I
added a more precise comment about the problem.

[Bug 266956] Re: fglrx fails to compile with 2.6.27-2 kernel

2008-09-21 Thread Stefan Hamminga
How I got the Hardy xorg running on Intrepid:

1. Move /etc/apt/sources.list => intrepid.list & create a hardy list
mv /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/intrepid.list
cp /etc/apt/sources.list.d/intrepid.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hardy.list
Then open up your favorite editor and edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hardy.list
to preference (I just replace every instance of 'intrepid' with 'hardy')

2. Create /etc/apt/preferences (eg. nano /etc/apt/preferences)
File should contain:
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Pin: release a=hardy
Pin-Priority: 999

3. Remove xorg* (haven't found a way to do a 100% working direct
downgrade)

4. run apt-get update to fetch both hardy and intrepid package lists

5. Reinstall xorg & ubuntu-desktop

Alternatively, when doing a fresh install I'd start with a minimal
server install and just add the desktop kernel & gui after setting the
pin.

[Bug 272686] [NEW] I lose one monitor when logging on kde4

[Bug 272690] [NEW] Missing lib in xml-resume-library

2008-09-21 Thread tibo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xml-resume-library

The ubuntu xml-resume-library do not work fine. A lib is missing. It's
impossible to get a pdf file from an xml resume because the "fop" command do
not exist.
The only method i found to complete the xml-resume-library is to install by
mysefl this lib :
http://apache.multidist.com/xmlgraphics/fop/
And to add my install directory in my PATH variable in my .bashrc

[Bug 234185] Re: Alternate CD cdrom-detect.postinst does not consider USB flash drive/key.

2008-09-21 Thread Tormod Volden
Couldn't these issues be solved by simply checking for a matching
.disk/info, like casper does?
