[Bug 267649] [NEW] Mplayer could not distinguish the sub-fuzziness=1 subtitle who with chinese full-name

2008-09-08 Thread magix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

Mplayer could not distinguish the sub-fuzziness=1 subtitle who with
chinese full-name,

For example :
天下第一.avi
天下第一.srt
开心万岁好不好.avi
开心万岁好不好.srt
其他.srt

If i Play 天下第一.avi the subtitle is "天下第一.srt " ,But the "开心万岁好不好.srt " is the
second subtitle of 天下第一.avi ,the "其他.srt" is the third subtitle
~/.mplayer/config
sub-fuzziness=1
subcp=cp936
font=~/font/zh.ttf

It would only recognise one subtitle . "天下第一.srt " , but all the
full-chinese name of subtitle would be the subtitles file of full-
chinese name moive

If playback "开心万岁好不好.avi ", "天下第一.srt " and "开心万岁好不好.srt " "其他.srt"
all would be the subtitles .

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 258881] Re: Thinks A3 paper does not exist

2008-09-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is not a problem of foomatic-db, but of HPLIP, as the PPDs for most
HP printers (recommended driver HPIJS or PostScript) are supplied as
part of the HPLIP package.

HP developers, please check the CUPS-DDK-based PPD generator, that for
all A3/SuperB-capable printers (especially HP DeskJet 1xxx) these papaer
formats are made available.

This is a regression introduced with the CUPS-DDK-based PPDs.

[Bug 267378] Re: [Intrepid] alpha5 LiveCD I can't open folders in network PCs

2008-09-08 Thread Alberto Emiliani
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu Intrepid (development branch) 8.10
  Nautilus 1:2.23.91-0ubuntu1 0
- I cannot browse the folders of the computers in my home network. (but I could
with Hardy 8.04.)
+ I cannot browse the shared folders of the computers in my home network. (but
I could with Hardy 8.04.)
  Detailed description:
I open Places/Network. I double click a PC called 'Morgen', which runs under
Windows XP in my home network. The window 'Windows shares on Morgen' opens up.
I double click on a folder ('E') within this window, and an 'Enter Password'
window pops up. Since there is no password, I leave the password field blank
(the Domain 'WORKGROUP' is correct) and I press . An icon 'e on
morgen' appears on the Desktop, but it does not open: instead, another 'Enter
Password' window pops up. I press and the following error comes up:
'Unable to Mount Location - DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered'.
I get the same error if I try to open the icon on the Desktop.
Exactly the same steps gave me access to the shared folders in the remote
host, with Hardy 8.04.

Although I'd add the '--local-port 0' option to ensure the respawned

[Bug 248839] Re: List of network servers is not updated

2008-09-08 Thread ar-jar
I answered by mail but I realize that for added transparency I should
perhaps reply here too:

Not sure what exactly what type of smbclient output you wish. I haven't
used this utility before. I don't have any problems listing the shares
on all the computers in the HOME workgroup with the -L flag. See below.

There are currently five computers on-line on the home network, two
Ubuntu machines, two XP machines and one machine running Vista. Not sure
what the "Domain" parameter in the smbclient output means. No Windows
domain is set on any computer. All machines have workgroup set to "HOME"
but that doesn't show for the Windows machines.

If I try smbclient -L=* then I only get one of the computers (Solbacka)
listed as below. Not sure if "*" is a valid value.

I also did smbfind (see below). It would only list the two Ubuntu
computers currently on the network. Not sure if the Windows machines are
supposed to be listed. It certainly looks so in some of the examples on
Internet.

After several tries to open the Windows Network in Nautilus, all five
servers are listed in the smb://home/ view. The network:/// view only
shows three computers. After computer restart the correct list appears in
the network:/// view.

In Windows, the My Network Places window shows all servers and shares
currently on the network (and a few that aren't currently on-line).

Overall, the different ways to look at the network (through Windows,
smbclient, smbfind, Nautilus) give an inconsistent view with respect to
available servers and workgroup assignment. And again, this is after
coming back from hibernation.

Please let me know what smbclient commands you'd like to have the output
from so that I can assist you better.

Thanks!

Arto

with slider. For battery I can select Dim diplay when idle or Reduce backlight
brightness. Hotkey on my Fujitsu Siemens work very strange.
I change backlight with hotkey and nothing happen, but when I close my diplay
and turn its off and again I open it, backlight is changed. On battery it isn't
work.

[Bug 267658] [NEW] Azalia sound doesn't work at all

2008-09-08 Thread Sokolowski
Public bug reported:

Distro - Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 5
Ok, so my sound card in my Asus a7u 7s004c (detected as Azalia) works wery
strange, or rather, i shall say, doesn't work at all.
No sound can be heard from speakers nor when using headphones. I can mute,
vol-, vol+ using fuction buttons. Tested by playing the examples.
None of the earlier versions of ubuntu could play anything, back to Edgy.

Very strange thing is, i decided to play that robot game. And, when
teleporting or when winning a round, i can hear some sort of strange
static for about 1 second in headphones. The static is different when
teleporting than when winning, so i assume as if the soundcard tried to
play something, but failed. This sound can't be heard on the speakers.

lspci -v output about sound -

[Bug 267656] [NEW] DHCP timeout with netinstall/alternative/d-i...

2008-09-08 Thread Daniel J Blueman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

When performing a netinstall or install via alternative CD, the 15 second DHCP
timeout has consistently caused problems in these cases I have experienced:
 - various tg3 laptop network adapters taking time to complete link autoneg
 - non-ISC DHCP servers (eg Microsoft DHCP server)
 - ports connected to routers with advanced functionality enabled, such as VLAN
and/or STP, taking some seconds before data is allowed
 - ISP cable modem with upstream DHCP server

The standard requires a 60s timeout for compliance. In the case where
DHCP isn't expected to work, the user selects manual configuration, thus
in the DHCP case, DHCP is expected to work, so a 60s timeout is not
unreasonable.

[Bug 267656] Re: DHCP timeout with netinstall/alternative/d-i...

2008-09-08 Thread Daniel J Blueman
Reviewing related bugs, we're not able to cancel the DHCP timeout, and
the timeout is configurable by passing boot parameters, however this is
not always easily possible when booting from PXE and/or USB (unlike when
booting from CD).

Does a 30 or 45 second timeout seem reasonable?

[Bug 211632] Re: vlc does not play files from a "bookmarked" smb share

2008-09-08 Thread jrennell
It might also be worthy to note that this issue can be caused with the
way VLC handles the SMB access. If you are trying to connect to an SMB
share through VLC it will apparently use its own "SMB Access Module"
which looks to default to using the current username and no password.
This can be changed in the VLC settings to use a different
username/pass/workgroup.

This can cause a problem if you're accessing a windows share that
requires a password, or if the username you're using requires a password
on the windows share. For me, I have the user "jrennell" on the windows
machine where my media is and I log into Ubuntu with "jrennell". Since
"jrennell" is a user on the windows machine, trying to log in as
"jrennell" with a blank password was not allowed. Changing the access
module to "anonymous" allowed me to open files from nautilus without a
problem.

I had the exact problem described in this bug report, and could open
then from the "file > open file" method through VLC.

[Bug 263049] Re: CUPS test page does not display correct print job data. pstopdf filter needs improvements, test page needs some changes

2008-09-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have checked it now and it works as advertized on real printers. The
"bc" dependency is really needed as page sizes and margins can be given
as floating point numbers, whereas the shell's "$[...]" construct is
only capable of calculating with integers. "bc" is usually already
installed, so there will be no new package blowing up the desktop CDs.

I have committed the package to the SVN.

Current state now is that for all PPDs with a "Resolution" option or at
least with a "*DefaultResolution: ..." entry the left hand side info box
on the CUPS test page is absolutely correct. The right hand side info
box will always show Ghostscript, also if the printer is a native
PostScript printer used with a Ghostscript-less PPD file.

Suggestion for further improvement: Let cpdftocps also take paper size,
margins, and resolution into conversion process, simply to assure that
the conversion is done the best way possible.

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I suspect that this must have been reported already, but I can't find
the report:) I have just installed KDE 4.1 from the ppa packages at
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu. The log out dialog
doesn't have Suspend or Hibernate buttons. However, running pm-suspend
from the command line works correctly.

[Bug 267662] [NEW] mkdosfs - readerrors while formating device with checking

2008-09-08 Thread con
Public bug reported:

I tryed to format a new 1TB external (USB-) Disk with Fat32.
I used the "-c" flag to check the disk at the same time and had a look to the
syslog.

The format seems to run normal, but i saw in the syslog, that the disk
had readerrors from circa 70 percent.

Now i used a fat32 formarting tool (on Windows) delivered by the vendor
of the USB Disk and used checking, too. The format runs without any
error.

I think it is probably a USB problem, because i have a lot usb resets
(syslog), or a mkdosfs error with such big devices.

[Bug 262276] Re: Autoconfigured MacBook touchpad unusably slow (Intrepid alpha 4)

2008-09-08 Thread Philipp Edelmann
Adding these values makes the touchpad usable in xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics-0.15.0+git20080820-1ubuntu5 again. I’m using the standard
xorg.conf file. Thanks for the help. :-)

I noticed that the tapping behavior is different from the one I was used
to in Hardy. On MacBooks that are lacking a right mouse button two-
finger tapping is usually used as button 3 while three-finger tapping is
button 2. Am I right in the assumption that appletouch is only used for
Macintosh hardware? Then it should be safe to set those values for
appletouch.

I also noticed that SHMConfig is disabled by default, which makes it
impossible to change any of the touchpad settings on the fly with
programs like synclient.

2008-09-08 Thread Michael Doube
Timo,

I tried adding those lines to all 3 sections (synaptics, ALPS and
appletouch) because my touchpad is an ALPS on a Sony Vaio and restarted
X but no improvement. I also tried some different numbers for the 3
fields above (0.9, 1.0 and 0.01) which I thought would cause an obvious
difference but cursor tracking is still very slow.

[Bug 267696] [NEW] mysqldump fails silently against mysql 4.0 server

2008-09-08 Thread Liam Bedford
Public bug reported:

This affects the version of mysql-dfsg-5.0 in hardy. Intrepid is up to date
enough to
work correctly.

Upstream bug:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=34192

[copied and reworded a little from the upstream bug]
mysqldump in 5.0.51 SILENTLY fails to dump databases from mysql 4.0 server.

The dump of any 4.0 database is missing the data.
It's because now mysqldump unconditionally runs (client/mysqldump.c):

  my_snprintf(buff, sizeof(buff), "show create table %s",
result_table);

  if (switch_character_set_results(mysql, "binary") ||
  mysql_query_with_error_report(mysql, &result, buff) ||
  switch_character_set_results(mysql, default_charset))
 DBUG_RETURN(0);

where switch_character_set_results() are not supported on mysql < 4.1

** Affects: mysql-dfsg-5.0 (Ubuntu)

Re: [Bug 267294] Re: for the second time, my calendar and tasks have disappeared. Why can't I at least find them in the filesystem, if Evolution can't keep track of them from one day to the next?

2008-09-08 Thread sodasound

Hi,

You sent me some links to some codes. I'm running UbuntuStudio 7.10.
What should I do with this stuff? I am a newbie, and please don't
mistake me - I'm grateful for any help. Meanwhile I would like to become
equally helpful to the many other frightful newbies now joining the
club. I won't blog about it unless-or-until it turns into a solution,
rather than a gripe, even if nothing further is said.
