[Bug 32963] Re: totem overrides XV_CONSTRAST/XV_SATURATION to wrong default value (Xv movies on i810/i945 have horrible colour/gamma/contrast)
@Thomas: So is there anything else I can do to fix this bug on my computer? The funny thing is that this bug did not appear from the beginning on, but only since about two weeks (may be that I had Video Player and MPlayer running in the same time). So I guess if I'd reinstall ubuntu, it would work again, but isn't there an easier way (for example reinstall only a few files)? I have tried to reinstall only totem, but without success. [Bug 241844] [NEW] device-mapper fails after upgrade to hardy
Public bug reported: device mapper fails when using hardy kernels, after upgrade to hardy from gutsy. If I use one of my pre-built 2.6.24.6 kernels (built from kernel.org source) it woks fine. [Bug 241846] [NEW] plugin fails to start when a MMC/SD card is inserted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xfce4-sensors-plugin when an SD card is present in the SD/MMC card reader, the plugin fails with error message in a popup: x--x "hddtemp" was not executed correctly although it is executable ... not being setuid root. An easy but dirty solution is to run "chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp" as root user and restart the plugin or its panel. Calling "/usr/sbin/hddtemp -n -q /dev/mmcblk0" gave the following error: ERREUR: /dev/mmcblk0: Impossible de détecter le type de bus (ou ce type de bus est inconnu) x--x Approximated translation: ERROR: /dev/mmcblk0: Unable to detect the bus type (or this bus type is unknown) x--x AFAIK the bug is due to the plugin trying to read temperature of the SD card, which is not available. [Bug 241851] [NEW] NetworkManager 3g/gprs connects and immediately disconnects
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 network-manager: Installed: 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 Version table: *** 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 0 500 http://za.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I can configure a GPRS connection with NetworkManager to connect to the Cellphone provider, using the front-end. However, as soon as NetworkManager is connected, it disconnects immediately. It starts pppd, which starts chat, which connects. pppd then successfully authenticates to the service provider. pppd then starts LCP configure requests to get the IP/DNS, etc. And then networkmanager kills it... I also have this Problem. ~$ update-manager -V update-manager: version 0.81 Also tried this one: ~$ sudo do-release-upgrade told me to report /var/log/dist-upgrade/[apt|main].log so i looked into them. /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log ends with a line as follows: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade' so i looked up the file: ~# file /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade: broken symbolic link to `../mods-available/proxy.conf' so i tried to lookup the Package which should contain this file. ~# dpkg -S /etc/mods-available/proxy.conf dpkg: /etc/mods-available/proxy.conf not found. [Bug 241862] [NEW] Unexpected abortion of program when switching between Internet radio stations
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Rhythmbox aborts when repeatedly switching between some (but not all) Internet radio stations. It happens for instance when switching between mms://wm-live.sr.se/SR- P3Svea-High and http://www.sky.fm/mp3/hit70s.pls, always when returning to the P3Svea station. Restarting the P3Svea stations without playing something else in between works fine. When starting the P3Svea channel, the player restarts the buffering several times before it actually starts to play which looks kind of odd. I know something similar has been reported earlier but the tickets seem closed. This (unfortunately :-)) works fine in the same Ubuntu version that runs on my old Intel-based laptop. The laptop doesn't exhibit the weird restart of buffering when playing the P3Svea either. So this may be hardware / architecture related. Or maybe I have managed somehow to install different codecs on the two computers? I'm running Rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu7 and all the latest updates of Ubuntu 8.04 on an AMD Phenom 9750 system. Happy to provide any assistance that may help you. [Bug 241861] [NEW] Save youtube videos from totem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem I have been using the youtube totem plugin a lot lately, and I think it would be useful to have the possibility to use it to save videos to disk. It already seems to copy the actual video to /tmp, so I guess technically it shouldn't be too difficult. [Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] "Offline Mode" feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.
I've found a kludgy "fix" for this (that doesn't just involve removing nm, since it's wireless and wired handling are nice). In my case, I have a Inspiron 2200 with wifi set via ndiswrapper (which works fine) and an aircard (Verizon PC5740) which worked except for the "Offline mode" problem. So it's the case where if I don't have wifi, and dial via CDMA, I get the "Work Offline" stuff going on. So, if I go into /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf, I inserted in line 18 (all on one line): (That's in the 'policy at_console="true" ' section of the file in case yours is arranged a little differently for whatever reason.) This file seems to be checked on-the-fly, I could change this and see an immediate effect on firefox (although I rebooted to check for side effects). Consequences: This blocks firefox and any other app's attempt to get the online/offline state from NetworkManager, which makes it (and probably any other apps that try to check NetworkManager) decide Networkmanager is not there and assume online state. It ALSO blocks nm-applets access to this though... Since nm-applet can't get the online/offline state from NetworkManager either, it doesn't show online state properly (it'll show the exclamation mark while the network is up and running fine for static IP wifi and ethernet)... For regular ol' DHCP wifi, it does still show the signal bars (since blocking "status" doesn't block wifi signal strength info). Also, under "manual configuration" the "Roaming mode" text changes to "This network interface is not configured", and the checked "Roaming mode" checkboxes change to uncheckd "Enable this connection" checkboxes. But the interface seems consistent and to behave itself. Problem solved as far as I'm concerned, until I got to NetworkManager 0.7! -- [MASTER] "Offline Mode" feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 241867] [NEW] Display brightness requires manual intervention
Public bug reported: I first reported this as bug #214440, thinking it was gnome-power- manager related. It's not. The display automatically dims on boot when drivers are being loaded, before any Gnome stuff is introduced. Please see that bug for some log output. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/214440 I can control display brightness using the keyboard but the settings in Power Manager preferences, seem to be ignored. For example, when I unplug the AC power, the screen dims, but when I plug it back in again, the screen notifier shows the brightness increasing to about 90% (it is set to be 100% on AC power) but in fact the screen remains dimmed and does not actually increase. If I unplug the AC power again, the display brightness decreases and so on until after unplugging the AC power four times, the display brightness is at its lowest level and plugging in AC power makes no difference to the actual brightness. I can rectify this by using the FN-F11 keys. I'm running the latest Hardy updates on a Lenovo 3000 N100 Centrino Duo. I've attached some logs. This is not a recent problem but started occurring a few months ago. [Bug 225943] Re: .tex file not associated with latexsuite by default
When opening a new Buffer named .tex the filetype in vim is set to "plaintex" (viewable via ":set filetype"). This filetype is not connected with the vim-latexsuite, which is totally right, since .tex is also the extension for plain-original-knuth-like TeX-Files (which are not supportet by vimLaTeX-suite). When opening a file which is named .tex the filetype is set to "plaintex" UNLESS the file begins with "\documentclass..." which is a strong evidence the file is a LaTeX and not a plainTeX-file. In this case vim sets the filetype variable to "tex" (and loads vim- latexplugin). Files ending to .latex are automatically identified as LaTeX-files. So it's not a bug, it's a feature ;). If you want to write a LaTeX file in a newly created buffer, just type ":set filetype=tex" and everything is the way you want it. If you neverever will will write a plaintex-file you may put this into your .vimrc to override the _wise_ defaults: autocmd BufNewFile,Bufread *.tex set filetype=tex ** Changed in: vim-latexsuite (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- .tex file not associated with latexsuite by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 224876] Re: Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly.
I've just done the test Mike Hix wrote about on both a ThinkPad x31 and a ThinkPad x61 (yes, I love the Thinkpads). On my X61 the fan will be steady somewhere around 3200/3300 rpm. That is even if it's idle or if I'm doing the sha1sum test. The X31, on the other hand, it's a lot more interesting since the fan is OFF when idle. When I ran the sha1sum test it didn't start before the temperature reached 68 degrees celcius, and then "only" at 3400 rpm. This was however enough to keep the temperature steady at 70 degrees. When I stopped the test the fan turned itself off when passing 53 degrees celcius. Silence is golden. So my question is, why does the fan in the X61 keep spinning at ~3300 even when the machine is staying idle? I must say I prefer the way the X31 handles this problem. Hope this input is of any value. Btw, I'm running 32bit Ubuntu on both machines. X61 is running on Hardy and the X31 is using Gutsy. I can upgrade the X31 and do the same test again if necessary. Heck, I can even reinstall it. :-) -- Hardy does not control the CPU fan properly. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: uae Hi, Please sync uae 0.8.28-1 (multiverse) from debian unstable (contrib). Ubuntu changes have been merged in the debian package. It builds fine in an up to date intrepid pbuilder. Thanks. Debian changelog since the 0.8.25-7ubuntu1 ubuntu revision: uae (0.8.28-1) unstable; urgency=low * rules: Fix bashisms (from 0.8.25-6ubuntu1). * New upstream: 0.8.28 Obsolete patches removed for good: - close_window_hack (ui rewrite). - memory_leaks_in_gui (ui rewrite). - fix_save_config_fix (fixed upstream). - fix_static_declarations (no compilation issues noticed). Updated patches: - allow_spaces_in_zip_filenames.diff - makefile_more_cleaning.diff - struct_uae_wrong_fields_name.diff - uae_reset_args.diff Use of SDL gfx is now recommended: - rules: Configure with "--with-sdl-gfx". - control: Add Build-dep libsdl1.2-dev. [sdl sound still too unstable] * Removing unused/broken patch preserve_home_in_writing_optionsfile.diff for good. -- Stephan Suerken <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 08 Jun 2008 18:26:42 + ** Affects: uae (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: uae (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist Status: New => Confirmed -- Please sync uae 0.8.28-1 (multiverse) from debian unstable (contrib) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
