[Bug 176090] Re: WiFi / WLAN LED not working on notebooks with Intel iwl4965 | iwl3945

2008-03-26 Thread dhenry
Yeah but at this point we really know that LED support doesn't work
since nothing changed about it (i.e. it hasn't been implemented yet). So
saying "does not work on XXX" after 8 similar comments is quite useless.

use KDM instead of KDM-KDE4, but I also have KDE4 installed and it was
the first time I logged into GNOME (ubuntu-studio to be precise) since

[Bug 204937] Re: [hardy] kernel oops triggered by trackerd

2008-03-26 Thread Benjamin Herrenschmidt
Note to the triagers: while I can't exclude the possibility, it doesn't
smell like an architecture bug to me, more like a generic bug. The quad
is SMPx4 and I was doing extensive disk accesses while trackerd was
running, using multiple filesystems (ext3 and xfs), so the kernel was
quite "exercized" in ways that I suspect a lot of users don't, which
would explain why this didnt' show up on x86.

I'll torture the machine see if I can get that to happen again, and
maybe find out a repro-case.

Thanks for the answer!
i've tried with smbclient:

so it means problem with samba?
widows_server is main AD controller
ps.1 yes, the share is "users"

actually the computer responded to 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'
when I typed it in the terminal after receiving message 'E: dpkg was
interrupted, youmust manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the
problem'. This error message was followed by 'E: _cache->open() failed, please
report'. I ran the dpkg --configure -a first, without reporting the other error
because i didn't know how to report it. Then after the installation, I tried to
find out how to report the error, hence, this report. Thank you.

sane-backends is the source package name. libsane is the relevant
binary package name. sane-utils is another, which contains tools like
sane-find-scanner, but it is not required to use xsane, etc.

[Bug 206991] [NEW] File operations dialog doesn't remember its position

2008-03-26 Thread Jon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If you have a long file transfer going, and you move the File operations
dialog to a corner of your screen, any of the following events will
cause the File operations dialog repositions itself to the center of the
screen:

 * you start another transfer
 * you cancel one of the transfers
 * one of the transfers finishes
 * you click the File operations icon in the notification area twice (once to
hide the dialog, then again to re-show it)

The file operations dialog should stay where I put it. Otherwise, it
appears to be a different dialog.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 beta + all updates as of March 25, 2008. dpkg

[Bug 192407] Re: Thinkpad T61 crashes on resume from suspend

2008-03-26 Thread Karl Martin
With a fresh installation of Ubuntu Hardy Beta 64bit the above mentioned
problem does not occur anymore. Therefore, I conclude that this problem is
restricted to the 32bit version.
However, there are other minor problems with suspending in the 64bit version:
After resuming mostly a white screen is displayed instead of the password
prompt. However, after entering the password the desktop is correctly
displayed. Only sometimes a white area in the lower right corner of the screen
remains even after suspending again. The mouse pointer is shown in this area
but clicking on the area where the panel applets are usually located does not
cause any reaction. After restarting X everything is fine.

[Bug 206992] [NEW] SuperTuxKart doesn't remember fullscreen setting

2008-03-26 Thread Hewus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: supertuxkart

supertuxkart: 0.4-1

SuperTuxKart doesn't remember when it's set to fullscreen upon
restarting the program. Each time the game is started, it appears in
windowed 800x600, where I then set it to fullscreen 1600x1200 and can
enjoy the game. If I quit and then start the game again, it is back to
windowed 800x600.

If I start the game and first choose fullscreen, the resolution options
all claim to be blacklisted. Clearing the resolution from this blacklist
and then applying it seems to work just fine.

If I start the game and first choose the resolution and leave the game
windowed, it will remember this resolution upon restarting. As soon as I
choose fullscreen and restart, it's back to 800x600 windowed.

No error messages appear when run from the terminal.

[Bug 201173] Re: icedtea & applets => escape chars instead of chars in hardy and gutsy

I'm afraid not, since access require username and password.

I "examined" the site more closely and it seems the applet used is
treemenu.class
http://anfyteam.com/anj/treemenu/treemenu.html

I created an example html which initialize the applet from a simple
usage of the site (attached).

to reproduce, download the installation (wine required for
installation), copy the attached html to the treemenu folder in the
installed applet folder, and run in firefox.

[Bug 206997] [NEW] [Hardy] kernel 2.6.24 - hibernation problem with 4GB RAM

2008-03-26 Thread freak007
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04

Package:
linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic:

 Table de version :

There is a problem with hibernation where there is 4GB of RAM on my
laptop.

Everything works fine with 2 GB.

Of course suspend to ram works like a charm with 2GB and 4GB of RAM

I think it's a kernel ' specific problem, because i have the same
problem on my desktop computer.

In the changelog of kernel 2.6.25-rc7 at kernel.org i found this comment:

commit 2050d45d7c32cbad7a070d04256237144a0920db
Author: Pavel Machek <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Thu Mar 13 23:05:41 2008 +0100

x86: fix long standing bug with usb after hibernation with 4GB ram

aperture_64.c takes a piece of memory and makes it into iommu
window... but such window may not be saved by swsusp -- that leads to
oops during hibernation.

And in 2.6.25-rc1:

commit 5d38998ed15b31f524bde9a193d60150af30d916
Author: Rene Herman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Wed Feb 6 01:40:05 2008 -0800

PNP: do not test PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE on suspend/resume

The PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE flag is meant to signify that the PNP core
should not change resources for the device -- not that it shouldn't
disable/enable the device on suspend/resume.

ALSA ISAPnP drivers set PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANAGE (0x0001) through
setting PNP_DRIVER_RES_DISABLE (0x0003). The latter including the former
may in itself be considered rather unexpected but doesn't change that
suspend/resume wouldn't seem to have any business testing the flag.

As reported by Ondrej Zary for snd-cs4236, ALSA driven ISAPnP cards don't
survive swsusp hibernation with the resume skipping setting the resources
due to testing the flag -- the same test in the suspend path isn't enough
to keep hibernation from disabling the card it seems.

These tests were added (in 2005) by Piere Ossman in commit
68094e3251a664ee1389fcf179497237cbf78331, "alsa: Improved PnP suspend
support" who doesn't remember why. This deletes them.

suspend: cleanup reference to swsusp_pg_dir[]

swsusp_pg_dir[] is used for suspend, but not for hibernation.
clean-up the ifdefs which worked by accident, while implying the opposite.
Delete the __nosavedata, which also implied the opposite.

Some day we may optimize CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP to build minimal kernels
for just hibernate or just suspend but not both,
but today isn't that day.

[Bug 203494] Re: gnome-power-manager does not restore brightness after idle dim (2.22.0-0ubuntu1)

2008-03-26 Thread Karl Martin
I can confirm this bug on a Thinkpad T61 8889-2BG with Nvidia NVS 140
running Hardy Beta 64bit. The screen dims most of the time correctly
when idle. However, brightness is not restored after movements of the
mouse or pressing a key though it can be restored manually.

Furthermore, sometimes the screen does not dim on idle until the mouse
is moved again.
