[Bug 201305] [NEW] Package qtcurve depends on gtk2-engines-qtcurve, which is in universe

2008-03-12 Thread Matvey Kozhev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-style-qtcurve

kde-style-qtcurve is now in main, including the qtcurve metapackage,
which also installs gtk2-engines-qtcurve. However, the latter is in
universe.

Either gtk2-engines-qtcurve should be promoted to main, or the qtcurve
metapackage should be removed - or moved to another source package.

[Bug 137619] Re: [gutsy tribe 5] Fails to handle systems with too many IDE interfaces

2008-03-12 Thread Max Waterman
Further to my previous comment, it isn't that I have 5 IDE *devices*
since the error is too many *interfaces*. This lead me to unplug my
CDROM driver from the on-board IDE port and disable it in the BIOS.

This allows all 4 of the drives attached to my IDE PCI board to be
detected and my RAID5 array to work properly.

So, this is definitely still an issue and I think allowing 8 IDE
interfaces would be more prudent.

On the other hand, IDE is going the way of the dodo and so perhaps I
should switch to an SATA/PCI interface and use some IDE-SATA adaptors
(though they usually attach to the drive end of the cable and take up
much needed space by the drives :| ).

Still, I think this issue should definitely be recognised and a decision
taken one way or the other.

[Bug 201311] [NEW] Back & Forward buttons do not work properly

2008-03-12 Thread Nigel Haveron
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

this has always annoyed me, these button are not displayed by default but can
be added via customise toolbar, and they do not seem to work as expected, when
in an open email and I want to jump up and down my emails without returning to
the list I can press the B or F keys, when added to the toolbar the "Back" and
"Forward" buttons are greyed out unless it is marked as unread or you have
already use B or F, should they do the same as the B and F keys?
The "Previous" and "Next" buttons seem to preform exactly the same function
(only unread emails).
I am on Linux now running Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 but I'm pretty sure it did the
same when I ran Windows.

Can you fix this.

Thanks,
Nigel

[Bug 201022] Re: Hibernate ruins disk partition, destroys install

2008-03-12 Thread Sven Boden

Grub error 17 doesn't mean it destroyed your data. There are some known
problems (similar to yours) when using an Award Bios in combination with some
drives.

Can you tell us which kind of Bios you're using, how many harddisks you
have and the output of "sudo fdisk -lu"

[Bug 201318] [NEW] acpi reporting incorrect battery state

2008-03-12 Thread Stas Zytkiewicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.11

When testing the hardy alpha6 live cd I came across an bug that was also in the
Feisty release and it isn't resolved.
The problem is that when I start my laptop, plugged into AC, acpi and the
gnome-power-manager
think that AC is unplugged and report a popup telling the laptop is unplugged.
(Which isn't)

The bug can be reproduced by unplugging the AC and replugging it
again, then after
one minute acpi+g-p-m thinks the battery is unplugged again.

Here's the what acpi reported:
(laptop on AC system up and running, g-p-m gives the unplugged warning)
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 02:06:43 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: off-line

(laptop after unplugging AC)
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 04:25:27 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: off-line

( and replugging it again)
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: charging, 98%, 00:33:00 until charged
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line

Then after one +- one minute g-p-m gave an popup telling the laptop
was disconnected.(Which wasn't the case)
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 18:23:56 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line

The remaining outputs shows that the battery is charging as the remaining times
increases.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 25:42:22 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 27:48:38 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ acpi -V
 Battery 1: discharging, 98%, 31:56:44 remaining
 Thermal 1: ok, 53.0 degrees C
  AC Adapter 1: on-line

I can't find anything useful in the logs but if you need more info I'm
happy to provide it.

Thank you for explaining.

Looking at SRU procedure I read this as example of bugs:

Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1) have an obviously safe
patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical infrastructure
packages (like X.org or the kernel).

I think the bug fits this description. Do you agree?

Fix above also seems to be straightforward (i.e. could already be
implemented).

Re: [Bug 172508] Re: non western character disappears in oo writer

2008-03-12 Thread Peter Wagner
Hello,

thank you for your response. Inbetween I have switched to worse bugs
which forced me to leave Ubuntu. After an actualisation from mid January,
without any further reasons, Ubuntu freezes within five to ten minutes.
I've tried some tips I have found in hte forums, but I'm not so common
with Linux to go in deep. I suppose the time won't be enough to upgrade
to hardy, because already during loading it is supposed to freeze. Furthermore
I have a very lot to do, so there is no time to trial and error with
further installations. But I have not lost faith, right when I'll start
to gain some spare time I will try to migrate back.

Thanks for your effort, continue with your work, guys, it's the only
choice to get rid of Linux as an expert system. It's no more far!

Peter Wagner

Since I switched to amd64 meanwhile and evince got that much better that

[Bug 201322] [NEW] Support all languages in fontconfig, language-selector is not enough

2008-03-12 Thread David Nemeskey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

CJK language support in Ubuntu is substandard. Removing the fonts from
fontconfig, and placing them in the language-selector package is good
for modularity; however, it wasn't done right.

The first problem is that for example the ja_JP file does not include
the default latin fonts, so any latin text will be ugly. I haven't
checked, but I have the feeling that "exotic" letters like é, á, ő, ű
(accented or double-accented e, a, o, u) would not even be displayed
correctly. So I had to create my own en_JP file.

The second is, why do I have to CHOOSE between Japanese and Chinese? If
I choose ja_JP, Chinese characters will not be displayed. And it is true
in the other way around, too. It's very stupid.

What I suggest is that all font configurations under language-selector
list the same (all?) fonts. The difference could be the order of the
fonts. In a Japanese setting, the Japanese fonts would get higher
priority, while in a Chinese one, the Chinese fonts. In this way, a
Japanese system could display Chinese text too, and vice versa, and the
different symbols with the same unicode would be displayed according to
the "preferred" language.

Please have a look at the attachment: Fedora includes all these fonts in
the configuration file by default, so the user is able to view Japanese
AND Chinese text without changing anything.

[Bug 201311] Re: Back & Forward buttons do not work properly

2008-03-12 Thread Parthan
Thank you for filing the bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Did you
mean to say that in "Read individual mail in separate window" (i.e. one
mail is opened in a separate window) and this window toolbar is
customized to have 'Forward' and 'Backward' buttons, these buttons do
not go through previous and next *read* mails?

I tried to reproduce this bug by opening a read mail in the middle of
the list, adding forward and backward buttons to the toolbar and
pressing the buttons indeed changed the mail opened in a separate window
to read mails before and after the current mail respectively. If my
understanding of your bug is correct, then am not able to reproduce your
bug.

If my understanding is wrong, can you please provide me with a clear
explanation of your reported bug and how to reproduce it? Thanks in
advance.

I do not believe this is a duplicate bug -- if the above was caused by

And APT shows no errors during installation of the package, which the

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2008-03-12 Thread Conrad Knauer
SneakyWho_am_i wrote:

Above: Firefox is now more popular than any version of IE, and will soon be
more popular than all versions of IE. Firefox is a massive threat to Windows (a
la Netscape 1995) as it allows clever programmers to develop applications
directly for the browser, bypassing the Operating System. more users of
standards compliant browsers means more webmasters coding for standards
compliant browsers - which will make it more difficult for Microsoft to reverse
the decline in popularity of their browser.
---

Please note that my graph only shows stats *for that site* specifically;
Firefox is almost certainly *not* the browser with largest market share
worldwide.

Note however that there is disagreement about which is and what
Firefox's market share is too:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=2
Net Applications: February 2008
IE7: 44.03%
IE6: 30.63%
FF2: 16.30%

http://www.onestat.com/html/aboutus_pressbox57-firefox-mozilla-ie-browser-market-share.html
OneStat: February 18, 2008
IE6: 53.95%
IE7: 29.06%
FF ALL: 13.76%

http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php
W3Counter: February 29, 2008
IE6: 39.00%
FF2: 22.89%
IE7: 22.67%

The reason I graph the data from w3schools.com is that they have numbers
going back six years and the major trends they show (FF rising steadily
at the expense of IE, no major third browser uptake (IE+FF hovering at a
stable, high level), IE6->IE7 adoption plateauing unlike IE5->6
adoption) *do* seem to be reflected across the web.

For a long-term graph of global trends, Janco has a decade of IE data:

http://limulus.wordpress.com/2007/11/17/jancos-browser-wars-
graph-1997-2007/

I took their graph and added approximate release dates for IE and FF:
http://members.shaw.ca/Limulus/files/Browser_Wars_Janco.png

Note that IE's market share has been falling since *at least* mid-2004
and probably started at the beginning of 2003.

(Aside: these dates are interesting since they line up closely with the
early development of Firefox; the first dev version, named "Phoenix"
with version number 0.1 was released in September 2002 and the first
"Firefox" dev version, 0.8, was released in February 2004.)

Among major Linux distros, Ubuntu is the leader of the pack...

but still has a way to go before catching up to Windows and Mac OS in terms of
being a 'household name'.

---
I am always trying to convert people - but I don't push Firefox as hard as I
can. I will defend Firefox, but I will support anyone who decides to try out
Opera. The main thing is that they're not using Internet Explorer.
---

But if they are going to use IE, make sure to push hard that they're not
using IE6! :)

If you need to, direct them here:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=170212
(a bit old, but its still pretty much the same IE6 and just plain SCARY!)

Right now you can get Windows (XP/Vista) users to try:

IE7
IE8 beta

FF2
FF3 beta

Safari 3 beta

Opera 9
Opera 9.5 beta

Lots of choices; I'm sure one of those would do and chances are they'll
pick something that's not IE. Maybe do a 'browser-a-day challenge' with
all of them ;)

2008-03-12 Thread Parthan
Can you provide us with a screen shot of what you were expecting to see
and what you actually got by trying to get it? This will help us in
better understanding your bug and confirming it. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 200650] Re: XaoS display problem in Virtualbox (Hardy Alpha 6)

2008-03-12 Thread Tormod Volden
Yes, I think this could fit that SRU category.

I have also submitted the patch upstream. Maybe it will be included in
the upcoming 3.3 release, which we then can try to get into gutsy-
backports.

[Bug 201327] [NEW] Roundcube should not explicitely depend on php5 it should be also install if only php5-cgi is installed

2008-03-12 Thread Markus Majer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: roundcube

There was a bug before, in the roundcube-webmail package, which was
fixed in providing this new package - it was the bug that it depended on
apache2, but it is perfectly okay if someone runs roundcube on lighttpd,
so the right dependency would be httpd.

This was fixed, but another similar "bug" is in this new package, its
the dependency of php5:

---
$ sudo apt-get install roundcube

The following extra packages will be installed:
  dbconfig-common php-auth php-db php-mail-mime php-net-smtp php-net-socket
  php5
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  dbconfig-common php-auth php-db php-mail-mime php-net-smtp php-net-socket
  php5 roundcube

---

If someone uses PHP with Lighttpd, they only would use the php5-cgi
package, because using Lighttpd with PHP5 FastCGI is the way everybody
works with.

So the dependency should be "php5" OR "php5-cgi", not ONLY "php5". The
other packages who get installed are perfectly okay as I think right
now.

If you could fix that for 8.04, I would be happy, I want to start
providing roundcube to my clients around May, and I would be happy if I
could use ubuntu packages.

Also the roundcube-webmail package should be removed completely, its
very confusing and people would choose roundcube-webmail first on
autocompletion because they think roundcube without the webmail ending
would be another project.
