[Bug 137619] Re: [gutsy tribe 5] Fails to handle systems with too many IDE interfaces
Further to my previous comment, it isn't that I have 5 IDE *devices* since the error is too many *interfaces*. This lead me to unplug my CDROM driver from the on-board IDE port and disable it in the BIOS. This allows all 4 of the drives attached to my IDE PCI board to be detected and my RAID5 array to work properly. So, this is definitely still an issue and I think allowing 8 IDE interfaces would be more prudent. On the other hand, IDE is going the way of the dodo and so perhaps I should switch to an SATA/PCI interface and use some IDE-SATA adaptors (though they usually attach to the drive end of the cable and take up much needed space by the drives :| ). Still, I think this issue should definitely be recognised and a decision taken one way or the other. -- [gutsy tribe 5] Fails to handle systems with too many IDE interfaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 172508] Re: non western character disappears in oo writer
Hello, thank you for your response. Inbetween I have switched to worse bugs which forced me to leave Ubuntu. After an actualisation from mid January, without any further reasons, Ubuntu freezes within five to ten minutes. I've tried some tips I have found in hte forums, but I'm not so common with Linux to go in deep. I suppose the time won't be enough to upgrade to hardy, because already during loading it is supposed to freeze. Furthermore I have a very lot to do, so there is no time to trial and error with further installations. But I have not lost faith, right when I'll start to gain some spare time I will try to migrate back. Thanks for your effort, continue with your work, guys, it's the only choice to get rid of Linux as an expert system. It's no more far! [Bug 201322] [NEW] Support all languages in fontconfig, language-selector is not enough
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-selector CJK language support in Ubuntu is substandard. Removing the fonts from fontconfig, and placing them in the language-selector package is good for modularity; however, it wasn't done right. The first problem is that for example the ja_JP file does not include the default latin fonts, so any latin text will be ugly. I haven't checked, but I have the feeling that "exotic" letters like é, á, ő, ű (accented or double-accented e, a, o, u) would not even be displayed correctly. So I had to create my own en_JP file. The second is, why do I have to CHOOSE between Japanese and Chinese? If I choose ja_JP, Chinese characters will not be displayed. And it is true in the other way around, too. It's very stupid. What I suggest is that all font configurations under language-selector list the same (all?) fonts. The difference could be the order of the fonts. In a Japanese setting, the Japanese fonts would get higher priority, while in a Chinese one, the Chinese fonts. In this way, a Japanese system could display Chinese text too, and vice versa, and the different symbols with the same unicode would be displayed according to the "preferred" language. Please have a look at the attachment: Fedora includes all these fonts in the configuration file by default, so the user is able to view Japanese AND Chinese text without changing anything. ** Affects: language-selector (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Support all languages in fontconfig, language-selector is not enough https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for filing the bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Firefox is a massive threat to Windows (a la Netscape 1995) as it allows clever programmers to develop applications directly for the browser, bypassing the Operating System. more users of standards compliant browsers means more webmasters coding for standards compliant browsers - which will make it more difficult for Microsoft to reverse the decline in popularity of their browser. --- Please note that my graph only shows stats *for that site* specifically; Firefox is almost certainly *not* the browser with largest market share worldwide. For a long-term graph of global trends, Janco has a decade of IE data: http://limulus.wordpress.com/2007/11/17/jancos-browser-wars- graph-1997-2007/ I took their graph and added approximate release dates for IE and FF: http://members.shaw.ca/Limulus/files/Browser_Wars_Janco.png Note that IE's market share has been falling since *at least* mid-2004 and probably started at the beginning of 2003. [Bug 201327] [NEW] Roundcube should not explicitely depend on php5 it should be also install if only php5-cgi is installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: roundcube There was a bug before, in the roundcube-webmail package, which was fixed in providing this new package - it was the bug that it depended on apache2, but it is perfectly okay if someone runs roundcube on lighttpd, so the right dependency would be httpd. This was fixed, but another similar "bug" is in this new package, its the dependency of php5: --- $ sudo apt-get install roundcube The following extra packages will be installed: dbconfig-common php-auth php-db php-mail-mime php-net-smtp php-net-socket php5 The following NEW packages will be installed: dbconfig-common php-auth php-db php-mail-mime php-net-smtp php-net-socket php5 roundcube --- If someone uses PHP with Lighttpd, they only would use the php5-cgi package, because using Lighttpd with PHP5 FastCGI is the way everybody works with. So the dependency should be "php5" OR "php5-cgi", not ONLY "php5". The other packages who get installed are perfectly okay as I think right now. If you could fix that for 8.04, I would be happy, I want to start providing roundcube to my clients around May, and I would be happy if I could use ubuntu packages. Also the roundcube-webmail package should be removed completely, its very confusing and people would choose roundcube-webmail first on autocompletion because they think roundcube without the webmail ending would be another project. ** Affects: roundcube (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Roundcube should not explicitely depend on php5 it should be also install if only php5-cgi is installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
