Re: [Bug 125702] Re: failure to umount local filesystems - gutsy tribe 2

2007-07-21 Thread Mike
My fstab file contains the following when booted up:

unionfs / unionfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nosuid,nodev 0 0

My mtab file contains the following:

proc /proc proc rw 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /lib/modules/2.6.22-8-generic/volatile tmpfs rw,mode=0755 0 0
varrun /var/run tmpfs rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=0755 0 0
varlock /var/lock tmpfs rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777 0 0
udev /dev tmpfs rw,mode=0755 0 0
devshm /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,gid=5,mode=620 0 0
tmpfs /lib/modules/2.6.22-8-generic/volatile tmpfs rw,mode=0755 0 0
fusectl /sys/fs/fuse/connections fusectl rw 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev 0 0

I am not getting the error 110 error at the moment, so I am not sure if you
can rely upon that feedback.

When booting, it definitely is telling me that it is activating a swap
file. On shutdown, I get "ok" when it is deactivating the swap file. I
also get "ok" when it is unmounting temporary filesystems on shutdown.

[Bug 127317] Accessing ipod with ipod-io-slave doesn't work

When I connect my ipod nano to my laptop computer and type "ipod:/" into

Any idea what could cause this?

I closed this bug report because you use a version of azureus not
provided by Ubuntu. We cant do much about third party software. And to
me it looks like you have just downloaded for the wrong architecture.

Why dont you just install the version from Ubuntu or at least the 64 bit
version from upstream?

2: On the page mentioning the partitions choose 'manually edit'.
3: Resize an existing 'ext3' partition and continue.

My laptop currently has Feisty amd64 installed as follows
/dev/hda1 ext3 (feisty64) 58500MB*
/dev/hda2 swap 1580MB

And during partition im trying to change it so i can add gutsy
/dev/hda1 ext3 (feisty64, mounted /media/hda1) 29250MB
/dev/hda2 swap 1580MB
/dev/hda3 ext3 (gutsy, mounted /) 29250MB

[Bug 127326] window manager can't move window of aMSN

2007-07-21 Thread dominiko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsn

I can't move the window of aMSN chat program by clicking on the window
bar. Bug is 100% reproducible.

aMSN is not crashed though. If I click in the window of aMSN, I can use
it. It's the GNOME window manager that somehow can't move the window of
aMSN. As far as I know, it only happens with aMSN.

When I click on the window bar, it looks as if the window loses focus.

I found that I can actually move the window by pressing alt + left-click
in aMSN window + move mouse to move window. Once I do that, I can then
move the window also by clicking in the window bar so somehow it fixes
the problem.

But if I close aMSN and restart it, I then have the problem again (can't
move the window other than using alt + left-click + mouse move)

Steps to reproduce (simple and 100% reproducible):

1. install aMSN is not already installed: sudo apt-get install aMSN
2. start aMSN from GNOME menu bar: Applications -> Internet -> aMSN
3. aMSN window should pop up, try to move the window by clicking in the aMSN
window bar
4. observe that the window won't move

I'm using Ubuntu-7.04Feisty Fawn with all updates at the time of bug
submission.

[Bug 127331] Gutsy: gnome and keyboard crash

2007-07-21 Thread pitwalker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

first: sorry for my bad english

The error:

gnome crash: after I log in with gdm to NORMAL gnome I see only the background
image
and the mouse pointer, I can move mouse and thats all I can do.
The last chance is to change to a text terminal and when I switch back to tty7
keyboard hangs up!
The system is "ready" in this situation, but i see this only with PING from
another machine.
(And the mouse pointer.)

The cause:
Before the error I use desktop effects, Compiz Fusion.
I produce first the error with change to the 2nd desktop (I use 4 desktop, not
in cube)
I don't see the menu, and I cannot switch back. After restart I diagnose the
error is resident.

The solve:
I uninstall all packages of compiz.
Before the compiz uninstall I can run gnome only "failsafe gnome" from gdm.

[Bug 49827] Re: Available resolutions incompletely set to 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480

2007-07-21 Thread Kent Fuller
Here's a partial workaround. I'm a newbie to Linux and am just getting
used to Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. I'm using 1280x1024 LCD monitor that can't
be set to this native resolution through Gnome's
System/Preferences/Screen resolution and I am nowhere near ready to
start fiddling with command lines. What has worked in part in my case,
as I have a (fairly old but serviceable) NVidia GeForce 2 Ti4200
graphics card, is to run the downloadable NVidia driver package. I see
that my monitor Brand and Model and graphics card are all correctly
identified within this NVidia package. That allows me to go into the
Server Settings menu, select the XServer menu then X Server Display
Configuration (no idea why a screen should be called a server??) and
change the resolution to the correct native setting. However the
recommended refresh rate is too high and cannot be set to the
recommended 70 or 75Hz.

With the screen now looking as it should, if I now go back to
System/Preferences/Screen Resolution I see my native resolution that was not
there before is now available in the menu, but again with too high a refresh
rate (85Hz) as the only option. In addition, the option to make that the
default setting is ineffective. Reboot the computer and the entire rigmarole
must be gone through again next time because my settings have been lost. I have
tried many times... a very annoying bug to face each new bootup, even before
you start to do anything at all. I have been given to understand that driving
LCD screens with too high a refresh rate shortens their life, so 85Hz doesn't
seem to be a great option. I'm hoping someone can help with a proper fix.
Kent

[Bug 59060] Re: Invest applet renders incorrectly

2007-07-21 Thread Glyphobet
I can confirm that this bug still exists in Edgy as of 2007-07-21. The
non-functional color block next to the invest applet button is still
there. If the color block is really meant to indicate the overall
performance of your stock symbols, you should be able to disable it in
the preferences, since obviously a bunch of smart programmers cannot
figure out how orange, or grey, or purple (in my case) is supposed to
translate into a performance rating.

The following two bugs are incorrectly marked as duplicates of this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/89238
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/118398

Bugs #89238 and #118398 are in regards to being unable to remove the
invest-applet from the panel, which is not a problem for me. I can
remove the invest-applet from the panel by right clicking and selecting
"remove from panel."

In addition, the fix proposed here, installing libgnomevfs2-extra, does
not appear to be causing the non-functional color block. I already have
libgnomevfs2-extra installed and up-to-date, and I am still experiencing
the non-functional color block. Reinstalling and reconfiguring
libgnomevfs2-extra does not fix the problem. Perhaps installing
libgnomevfs2-extra is meant to fix the problem with removing the applet
from the panel.

[Bug 127335] backlight on Lenovo 3000 C200 can't be set to maximum again

2007-07-21 Thread Shadows_Friend
Public bug reported:

I've got a very strange problem on a Lenovo 3000 C200 notebook. When I
first started Ubuntu after the installation the backlight of the screen
is "normal" as it was on the preinstalled Windows. But after I decreased
the Brightness via the fn + brightness dimming keys, it can't be set to
maximum again. I assume there are five different brightness levels.
Let's call the normal one 5. Then I decrease to 4. Afterwards I can't
increase to 5 again. But I can decrease to 3. Afterwards I can't
increase to 4 oder 5 again. But I can switch between 1, 2 and 3 without
problems. I'm just not able to get to 4 or 5 again. When I try to adjust
the brightness before Ubuntu boots, for example in the grub menu, I can
go to 5 again. But after Ubuntu takes the control it falls back to level
3.

[Bug 125209] Re: Flash video in Epiphany doesn't die when browser is closed

2007-07-21 Thread Jan Mynarik
Same problem here. I would add that any flash content does this for me.
Browser windows disappear when closed but they are still in memory.
Opening (and eventually closing) further windows leads to huge CPU and
memory consumption and finally epiphany crashes.

One remarkable thing is with killing epiphany. When I close all epiphany
windows and then killall epiphany-browser, I see a lot of small windows
appearing for a while (not enough time to even display its contents but
it definately appears on screen and in tasklist).

I saw a similar window once and it said something about script slowing
down the computer. It may be related to compiz as well, will investigate
further.

I have no such problems with firefox.

[Bug 127346] The playlist moves when dragging the main window to the panel edge

2007-07-21 Thread Marcus Sundman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xmms

When the playlist is snapped to the main window it will still move when
you try to move the main window over the top panel.

To reproduce:
1) Make sure you have a panel at the top of the display.
2) Open XMMS. Open playlist as well if it's not already open.
3) Drag the playlist so that it snaps to the bottom of the main window.
4) Drag around the main window and the playlist will follow, keeping itself
snapped to the main window.
5) Drag the main window upward, trying to drag it past the top panel. -> The
playlist will continue to move when the main window is kept from moving upwards
by the top panel. This also un-snaps the playlist.

Doing all this with a vanilla kernel (2.6.19.2 over 2.6.20.x to

installing feisty with a individual kernel is a mess regarding d-i

[Bug 127349] flv succeed from file, fails from http

2007-07-21 Thread john smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

Description: ffmpeg (of gutsy) 3:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu4 is unable to
read a flv video from http but the same file first copied to disk and
then played works ok.

Important: this bug has is no more in the current cvs ffmpeg, so it is
in still in gutsy only because it uses a 'old' version of ffmpeg.

How to reproduce the bugs:
* Read a flv video from http via a ffmpeg video player (ffplay, vlc, mplayer)
** say the video of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWIrxuF5NSo
** mplayer http://lax-v98.lax.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=nWIrxuF5NSo
*** this will refuse to play the video
** wget -O /tmp/bla.flv
http://lax-v98.lax.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=nWIrxuF5NSo for 30second and
then ctrl-c
** then mplayer /tmp/bla.flv will play the video

i tried the same steps with ffplay from ffmpeg cvs and it can read the
video from http

[Bug 127351] MROUND-function of Calc does not work

2007-07-21 Thread Hattunen
Public bug reported:

I have a problem with OpenOffice. I installed Ubuntu 7.04 and the
OpenOffice that was packed with it on the same cd. Now I noticed that my
OOo Calc is missing one command: MROUND. If I try to use the command, I
get an error message. In addition, the command does not even appear on
the list of usable commands. However, if I boot into recovery mode, the
function works very well! In addition, if I boot into Ubuntu 7.04 live
cd and start OOo there, this command works very well.

I could duplicate this bug by installing Ubuntu to a virtual machine
(VirtualBox). The problem was identical there: in normal mode MROUND
does not work, but in recovery mode and from live cd it works in the
virtual machine, too.

In addition, the OOo help section tells this for the MROUND command:
"This function is only available if Analysis AddIn is installed." Is
this true? Or is this cut and pasted from another source, etc.? I am not
aware of such addin for OOo and google could not find it either...

Please let me know if there is any more information I can give.
