[Bug 106434] Re: 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers (manual install)
daimoni: Hmm. I am seeing not similar behaviour in another bug. Could you attach: /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video please? Re GPL patches: It's not quite as clear cut as that. The GPL-only patches were introduced years ago to help discourage people from (accidentally or otherwise) abusing kernel interfaces which would then create derivative kernel modules. Linus isn't "anti-GPL" but nor does he want to ban modules that aren't derived from Linux (see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/475654/focus=475824 ). I suspect that in later updates the NVIDIA driver will stop using those interfaces (so this is something that NVIDIA will fix) because the nvidia drivers distributed by Ubuntu seemingly do not have this problem. Since you are retrieving the drivers from NVIDIA, I think there's an strong argument saying that NVIDIA should have had a note about this - after all you downloaded the driver from them and there's nothing Ubuntu can do to stop you downloading any other arbitrary driver and then running into problems compiling it. You're free to do what you like with your system but doing certain things will change who and where you can get support/help from... -- 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers (manual install) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106434 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109523] Evolution disconnects from exchange server when started
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When I start evolution on login (it's in my startup menu) the window opens and the first thing it does is "disconnect from Exchange server". The exchange server is the mmm.cern.ch microsoft exchange server. I have to wait (few minutes) until it is done and then click on the connection icon on the bottom left to reconnect. That then works. If I don't wait and try to cancel the disconnection and reconnect it doesn't. The only way out then is evolution --force-shutdown and restart. Then evolution starts being already disconnected (judging from the icon) and I can reconnect. This is new with 2.10.1. Previously I had whichever version was distributed with Edgy and I didn't get these problems. [Bug 108771] Re: Totem stops buffering and won't play a movie stream if the initial cache fill fails
I use Feisty Fawn. Totem version 2.18.1. I believe the "cache fill fails" because the progress bar on the bottom scrolls and stops before it hits 100% for the initial stream load. The same thing occurs when the network stream is unable to keep up the bitrate as fast as the movie progresses. IE: it pauses to recache the stream during playback. However, when the movie has already started to play subsequent pauses appropriately wait util the cache fills back up and then continue. It almost appears as if the initial load has a timeout on it. I trigger the "bug" by loading a HD (480p) movie trailer off of Apple's Quicktime movie trailer site. I don't always hit it, just sometimes. Once again, mplayer doesn't exhibit this issue. -- Totem stops buffering and won't play a movie stream if the initial cache fill fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108771 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109526] resume from disk breaks sound and thinkad buttons on IBM thinkpad R40
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 I am running current feisty on an IBM thinkpad R40 (2722-B3g) and after resuming from suspend to disk, sound and all special thinkpad buttons (volume control, screen brightness, suspend, switch graphics output, volume up/down, mute, thinklight) stop working, which is weird, because all the buttons also worked completely without OS support. Suspend to RAM works fine (until I do suspend-to-disk once, then the button is not accepted anymore). Sound just doesn't play but all the devices and mixers and so on still seem to be there, at least no application is complaining. There is another bug-report which mentions sound not working on a thinkpad after resume, but I'm filing this as separate, since the buttons are not mentioned there, so I'm not sure it's related. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- resume from disk breaks sound and thinkad buttons on IBM thinkpad R40 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109526 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 109483] Re: Fiesty Fawn screen resolution bug at install
Hi, I don't have it. I burned an ISO and installed ran the live CD from there. After about an hour of mucking around I deleted the ISO and binned my Ubuntu CD. I am of the view that Ubuntu should work properly and it didn't. So now I wait for Gutsy Gibbon and hope that this is sorted by then. My system is: AMD AthonXP 2500+ Nvidia GeForce 6600GT Mainboard Asus A7N8X-E Monitor Viewsonic 19" G90f+ As reported I was stuck with a maximum resolution of 800x600 and 60Hz. I edited the Xorg to fix this, alt-ctrl-backspace but the changes didn't take effect. The F4 at the begining didn't work either. I set the resolution to 1024x768. This isn't the first time I have had this problem with Ubuntu. It was present in Dapper too from memory. Others are reporting similar problems. I have ordered the Fiesty CD so I will try again then. I will hopefully remember to save a copy of Xorg to submit. All I know is that I was really annoyed at not being able to change screen resolutions. Neither with the default Nvidia drivers nor with the installed Nvidia drivers when trying to test the Beryl Cube. As I was running a live CD I alt-ctrl-backspace but that didn't affect the resolution. I tried to install Ubuntu but the install window was TOO large. So the "ok/next" button was off screen. I later learned about Alt F7 and thought I am not going to waste my time any further with this version of Ubuntu. I frankly don't understand how such a bug can have made it undetected during testing. The 6600GT is a popular card. Viewsonic are a popular monitor. Nothing unique about the hardware. No reason for this not to work. I hope you can fix this as it completely ruined my Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn experience completely. My first impression of Fiesty Fawn is that it Failed - the screen resolution doesn't work and the install window with the locked in 800x600 max is too big. Cheers. I'll attach it later today when I get back home. I switched back to Ubuntu's Nvidia driver now. I do understand kernel developer's hate for non-gpl drivers and Ubuntu's hate for drivers that don't ship with it :) Also could be worth noting that I tried installing Nvidia's driver _after_ the X broke (and because of that) with -15 kernel upgrade, I hadn't got it installed before that. Could be just that before that I had nvidia-glx installed instead of nvidia-glx-new. [Bug 98657] Re: booting Feisty with CD-ROM inserted, can not unmount it
This is only a bug if the relevant permissions were introduced by ubuntu itself and you were trying to unmount the CD in a way compliant with "ubuntu philosophy". We have not established that yet. If it were the case, I suspect we'd see thousands of others complaining about this phenomenon as well. How do you try to unmount that fails? There should be an icon on the Desktop. Can you unmount the CD by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "unmount" or "Datenträger aushängen"? Please tell me the output of "whoami", "groups" and "ls -l / /media" while the CD is mounted right after the reboot. I would try this myself, but the only computer with an optical drive I own is my LAN server which I cannot reboot right now. CDs are apparently not automounted. [Bug 109529] can suspend/resume once, suspending a second time hangs
Public bug reported: I have a dell inspiron 8500 upgraded to feisty (through edgy) from dapper. In dapper suspend/resume worked fine (once I set /etc/default/acpi-support correctly.) [Bug 107276] cannot print even pages in a range
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67164 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67164 The bug that I had reported about printing even pages in a range does not exist in Feisty 7.04: please close Bug 107276.
