[Bug 81598] lvm2 check if device is md is broken on big endian machines
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lvm2 lvm2 does check if a device is part of raid before attempting to init the vg on the device. This check is required to make sure that there is no collision and a vg is erroneously enabled on the device that's part of a raid. How to reproduce: create 2 100Mb files losetup /dev/loop0 file0 losetup /dev/loop1 file1 make a raid1 out of the loop devices. pvcreate /dev/md0 vgcreate vg_test /dev/md0 lvcreate -L50M -nlv_test vg_test vgchange -a n <- stop and disable LVM2. stop the raid run vgscan and this error will appear: Found duplicate PV /dev/loop1: using /dev/loop1 not /dev/loop0 This is because the position of LVM and md data that don't guarantee what device should be enabled first. In the above case, the vg_test an lv_test can be enabled on one of the raid1 disks only. mdadm will fail to start later because loop1 is busy. Assuming this situation is used for normal FS, there are corner cases in which LVM and mdadm are racing to start the devices and there is no guarantee that mdadm is always executed before LVM. If we assuming that on boot LVM is started first and mdadm fails, the user will still be able to run and do whatever he wants, but the FS on the other device is offsync. If at the next reboot mdadm is started first, the raid will start without problems because raid superblocks are still valid and we start LVM, there will be a royal inconsistency in the system according to where the raid will fetch the data. Raid1 for example tends to load balance between devices by default on read. This leads to FS corruption. We did generally avoided this problem by guaranteeing certain initialization orders but this is not always reliable. The fix (already landed in feisty) does allow LVM to not start on raid devices. Little endian machines are not affected by this problem. [Bug 81599] hardware-monitor cpu monitoring should not include iowait
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hardware-monitor After booting my machine, updatedb is usually started by anacron and the hardware-monitor shows 100% cpu load for some time. Inexperienced users who don't know what updatedb is may be surprised and concerned why their CPUs stay at 100% load minutes after booting has completed. Therefore, my suggestion is that hardware-monitor should also substract iowait from the total cpu load because of iowait not being actual cpu load. The cpu can yield cycles to other processes while waiting for the IO to complete. [Bug 29291] Re: Xorg start with incorrect frequency for LKM monitor
Workarounds: In Ubuntu 6.10 you can go to console [Ctrl+Alt+F2], and add this line in to xorg.conf: sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf In section Monitor you need to add line: VertRefresh 43-60 The second testing CD of 7.04 Feisty Fawn starts with vesa driver. Vesa driver detects correctly monitor frequency (60Hz). If you want to start you go to the console and edit the configuration file: sudo nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf In section Monitor you need to add Line: VertRefresh 43-60 And in section Device change from vesa to via: Driver "via" Now restart xorg [Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace]. +++ Then via xorg driver will select only correct frequency (only non- interlaced if video chip doesn't support interlaced mode) this bugs will be fixed. -- Xorg start with incorrect frequency for LKM monitor https://launchpad.net/bugs/29291 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 81412] Re: Ethernet Driver broken in Feisty Upgrade
I can't find this driver in the edgy kernel, but I've seen the patches submitted to linux-kernel and ACK'd by Jeff Garzik, so I will include this driver in feisty and push it to Ben. Can you provide an lspci -vv and lspci -vvn as attachments to this bug? -- Ethernet Driver broken in Feisty Upgrade https://launchpad.net/bugs/81412 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 51741] Re: Scroll tab is misconfigurated in Ubuntu "VNC Viewer" Terminal Server
Believe it or not, it's by design. Although it seems to be a gratuitous change of a basic ui element; I didn't figure it out for over a year (never occurred to me to right click on the scrollbar, and so I just used uvnc via wine as a client). The current behaviour is that left clicking on a scrollbar will move the bar down or to the right (depending on the orientation), regardless of where you click in the scrollbar. Right clicking has the opposite effect. Dragging has no effect, and there's no mechanism to move the scrollbars via the keyboard. Expected behaviour would be to use standard scrollbars, where you can drag the bar; left-clicking above or below the bar will move the bar one screen-size up or down, and right-clicking would have no effect. Also, some mechanism should be provided to scroll via the keyboard, although this may be non-trivial for this application. -- Scrollbars poorly implemented in "VNC Viewer" Terminal Server https://launchpad.net/bugs/51741 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51741] Re: Scroll tab is misconfigurated in Ubuntu "VNC Viewer" Terminal Server
The second bit about the warning/error message should be moved to its own bug report. However, I believe it's just excess verbosity: the contents of the message are just what vncviewer displays on the console while running. It'd be nice if it didn't do this. :) -- Scrollbars poorly implemented in "VNC Viewer" Terminal Server https://launchpad.net/bugs/51741 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 29622] Re: Firefox does not print the headers and footers.
Well, for an example I printed this page with firefox to my default printer with default settings, but I checked the "print to file" checkbox, so I can show the results. I converted the ps into a pdf. My printer cannot print that close to the edges, that's one thing. I can set bigger edges in File->Print->Properties and it works. I suspect default edges (0.04) are set in inches, but on my system are interpreted as millimeters. Is that possible? However, I STILL (after all those years of mozilla developers fighting this point of view) regard not being able to set up any advanced options (such as duplex printing) from GUI _AND_ having to use a completely different print dialog compared to other, more gnome-integrated parts of the system, a total usability failure ** Attachment added: "A print of this page from firefox to file." http://librarian.launchpad.net/5860777/test.pdf -- Firefox does not print the headers and footers. https://launchpad.net/bugs/29622 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 81608] Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: human-gtk-theme This is a wishlist bug that I discussed with Ken Wiimer. We now ship DejaVu Sans in Feisty, which contains Condensed and Condensed Bold flavours. These are great screen fonts that are quite legible and can be used for user-interface elements like window titles, menus, and tooltips. They're clean, since they are based on Bitstream Vera Sans, but also thin so that more information fits in the available space. I recommend against using them as the document fonts, since their hinting is not up to par with Bitstream Vera Sans, so they look a bit blurry. But for everything else, they're excellent. In summary, please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default user- interface font for Ubuntu and Kubuntu. ** Affects: human-gtk-theme (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Affects: kubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font https://launchpad.net/bugs/81608 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 81607] numeric keypad blocked in session manager
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This bug is no heavy but constant (from the moment I install Feisty alpha2 to now) about the application, I chose gdm because it happens just when I open a session. When entering in a session, the numeric keypad is noted as active (the numeric keypad light is on) but I can't type any number. I have to hit twice the "number lock" key, the light switch off (first hit), switch on (second hit) and the numeric keypad is all right. An updated version of Feisty is running on my computer.
