libparted 1.7 is the version available in Edgy (currently
libparted1.7.1-2.1ubuntu3) . so I'll mark this bug as now being fixed
in Ubuntu, based on the first comment in this bug report.

[Bug 65001] Re: Fixed: Nautilus terminates itself when deleting a folder

2006-10-11 Thread foren-sniper
It is planned to be fixed in Nautilis 2.16.
I am not in the directory when I want to delete it. I am using the right mouse
click in the tree structure (left side tree, right side directory) to send the
fodler to trash. So...Nautilus is not only exiting when I delete the empty
directory while I am still in the folder.

[Bug 58418] Re: Creative ViBRA16X - CT4170 Not activated on new install

2006-10-11 Thread Krzysztof Lichota
Here are messages printed when I run manually "modprobe snd_sb16". Options in
modprobe configuration file were:
options snd_sb16 port=0x240 irq=5 dma8=0 dma16=1 isapnp=0

The same message is printed when trying "modprobe snd_sb16 isapnp=1".
When I run without setting modprobe options, message is similar, without first
line, i.e.:
[62553.212837] Sound Blaster 16 soundcard not found or device busy
[62553.223456] In case, if you have AWE card, try snd-sbawe module

[Bug 65244] ulimits not set accrding to /etc/security/limits.conf for root

2006-10-11 Thread Václav Šmilauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-modules

Hello, I am desperately trying to allow root big or unlimited coredumps.
I set "* soft core 102400" and "* hard core 102400" in
/etc/security/limits.conf to no avail, after root login over ssh, I
still get the stubborn answer "# ulimit -c" → "0". I don't know if this
is a bug in pam itself; it works OK for other users.

I also tried to add pam_limits.so to /etc/pam.d/common-session, nothing
happens. The same result when putting "ulimit -c unlimited" into
/etc/environment.

If this is not a bug in PAM but only my inability to find the right solution,
please consider it a documentation bug report. It prevent us from debugging
crashing gdm daemon (see

Sorry i cannot confirm now 'cause the machine has been sent to the
customer.

I recovered the installation booting from RedHat enterprise cdrom and then
manually adding the redhat kernel to the non-working ubuntu filesystem,
configuring grub and rebooting with hard-disk went fine.

If i recall the problem it is only with the 64bit version of the kernel.

[Bug 65247] MagicMedia AV (NeoMagic) is not set up at all

Public bug reported:

A number of support requests and threads exist for this Audio hardware,
which Ubuntu 6.06 LTS does not seem to deal with at all. Most of the
requests are people who cannot get any sound at all.

I did try to get them to engage the bug system and put in reports
themselves, but they are not necessarily that technically inclined, and
so after a few attempts at getting them to do so, I have done so myself.

[Bug 65246] Wrong manuals for applications listed under Desktop category

I don't know if its an Ubuntu only issue or an issue in upstream, but in
the new 2.16.x (edgy) the categories Accessibility, Accessories, Games,
Graphics and Internet are listed below the Desktop section, not under
Applications section.

How To Reproduce
 * switch to edgy
 * open Yelp (System->Help->System Doc)
 * on the left side there is the list of categories: Desktop, Applications,
Other...)
 * click on Applications: a "sublist" will be opened, listing categories for
application. Here are only 5 categories
 * click on Desktop link (above the Application link): missing categories from
Applications sections are listed here in the sublist.

Aspected Results
  * all Applications categories should be listed clicking on Applications link.
Desktop link should have no sub-categories and point onli to GNOME user, a11y

[Bug 65226] Re: Paste from writer to gaim in edgy segfaults writer

2006-10-11 Thread Joey Stanford
Although I can't replicate the error, I'll confirm this based on the
valgrind and pass to Matthias. I've seen the same error in
libvclplug_gen680li.so with another recent bug. This might be related to
the other one where it appears that there is a linkage error. Matthias
will need to double-check the build and recompile. At that point you
(jbj) will need to retest. I'll let him make the call on the
relatedness. FYI: The original gdb trace does not seem to match with
the valgrind.

[Bug 65249] keyboard strokes registered repeatedly or not registered at all

2006-10-11 Thread Rostislav Raykov
Public bug reported:

Hello,
This bug is posted as a dapper bug and is reported to have been fixed. However
I have made a fresh install of Edgy Beta 1 on an Acer Aspire 3620 and the bug
is there. I have tried to do all of the proposed from the comments of bug
#39315, but to no avail.
Without any systematic behaviour, totally on random time, my laptop keyboard
starts to behave oddly. The keypresses never get registered by the system or
some key is registered as continuously pressed and starts without control to
repeat itself like crazy. Like the key is stuck, and it can't be stopped by
pressing it.
I have noticed that the continuous press or the lack or response from the keys
can be ignored somehow if i move the cursor through the touchpad of the laptop.
While I use the touchpad with one hand I can use the keyboard normally with the
other.
This behaviour of the keyboard will somehow stop after a few minutes (not a
specific time interval, everytime it's different) and then I can use it
normally again.

[Bug 65250] Kubuntu Edgy doesn't mount floppy disks

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdelibs

If I insert a floppy disk and press the Floppy disk icon nothing
happens.

I have to right click on the icon and select "Mount" instead (and
"Unmount" to unmount it).

mount a floppy in 3.5.4 though)

[Bug 65254] Request/bug about login screens.

2006-10-11 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Many windows users are used to clicking on an icon in order to type in
their password to login to their machine.(the bug) I therefore would
like to request an official "Ubuntu login screen with browser". The
only one currently available by default is "Happy Gnome with Browser"
which is not in keeping with Ubuntu's nice new caramel look so doesn't
lend itself much to Ubuntu.(the other bug)

Is there any chance that with Edgy+1 this could be remedied as I believe
it would lend itself better to windows users who wish to switch. It is
a small point in an otherwise near perfect Distro but I believe it is
one that could win over new users, the more familiar they are with the
look of the OS the more likely they are to switch, but I could be wrong.

[Bug 57502] Re: JMicron PATA/SATA Controller does not work

2006-10-11 Thread godot
Everyone is still having problems with Jmicron. A fix was released,
initramfs-tools was patched too, but there is still a problem !
People can't install Edgy with their Jmicron. "Cannot allocate resource region"
errors, or "GRUB error 21" error, ...
Personally, I managed to install Edgy, and I can boot with linux-image-386
(though I get "Cannot allocate resource region" errors), but in the same time
linux-image-generic won't boot.

I think the number of posts since Ben said it was definitively solved
with initramfs-tools correction speaks by itself : still not completely
fixed.

When starting eclipse it claims to need mozilla-browser installed with
no sensible justification. If this is really necessary then the package
should be made or a dependency or better it should work with the default

[Bug 65256] Re: Claims to require mozilla-browser but no dependency

2006-10-11 Thread Kevc978
Hello,

Thank you for your report, It seems this was changed from version
3.1.2-3 and Mozilla is the only browser that will currently work.

To remove the error MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME must be set to the mozilla
directory (i.e /usr/lib/mozilla )

I have included the lines from the patch file that relates to this
problem.

Thanks.
