This OS is for people that have never used Linux before or for people that
just want a out-of-the-box working OS without doing all the tweaks and
enhancements that everyone seems to do when installing a fresh copy of
Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is a great OS but it’s default setup with it’s chosen programs are
lacking functionality and ease of use, so all I did was listen to what
people wanted and found the most user friendly programs for the task. Like
using Shotwell for easily uploading images to Facebook, gtkpod for putting
music, photos and video on a ipod/iphone and mvPod for converting the video
to a iPod friendly format. All the programs have been chosen for there ease
of use and functionality.

The system was built to have eye candy (CoverGloobus, Gloobus Preview, GNOME
Do, Docky) and for every part of it to be user-friendly, I even changed
every file type to open with the right program, like for some reason by
default .iso are opened with Archive Manager so I changed that to Brasero
Disc Burner.

Pinguy OS is just a custom built Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with added repository’s,
tweaks and enhancements that can run as a Live DVD or be installed. It has
all the added packages needed for video, music and web content .eg flash and
java , plus I have
done a few fixes as well. Like fixing wireless problems, gwibber’s facebook
problem and flash videos in fullscreen.

Everything is setup for samba, all you need to do is right click a folder
you want to share and add a password in samba using system-config-samba.
I have also added a Upnp server (pms-linux) so you can share your music,
video’s .ect with a PS3, XBOX 360 or any other Upnp media reader.

Nautilus has been changed for

pluginsso
it can get
music  and
video art
from the web.
The default theme is
Elementaryusing
ttf-droid  font with
Dockyand
a custom
Conky .

I have added DVB support to Totem for anyone with a TV card that wants to
watch tv on there PC but don’t want to install a whole program like myth-tv.

If you have a 64-Bit processor you should go with the 64-Bit version of the
OS, unless you have a technical or business reasons for not migrating to
64-bit Linux with compatible hardware, there is no reason to stick around
with a 32-bit. The main reason for going with 64-bit is because it’s faster
then 32-bit on the same
hardwareand
there aren’t many programs now that don’t run on 64-bit.

*The following processors support 64-Bit:*

   - AMD 64-Bit processors ( Athlon 64, Opteron, later Sempron, Turion 64,
   Phenom, Athlon II and Phenom II processors)
   - Intel 64-Bit processors (Celeron D, later Pentium 4, Pentium D, later
   Xeon, Core 2 (not Core Duo), Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Atom processors)

There maybe more so please check to see if your processor is compatible. If
you have any doubts or are not sure if you have a 64-Bit processor go with
the 32-Bit version.

আমি এখন ৭০% সময় উবুন্টু চালাই। এই উবুন্টুকে কনটিনিউ করার জন্য
প্রিন্টার ব্র্যান্ড চেঞ্জ করলাম। ক্যানন আইপি ১৩০০ কে কোন উবুন্টু
এক্সপার্ট যখন কনফিগার করতে পারছিলেন না। তখন এইচপি ডি১৬৬০ (ডেক্সজেট
১৬০০ সিরিজ) নিয়ে আসলাম। এটি আমার উবুন্টু ১০.০৪ এ অটো কনফিগারড। বাট
কাজের কাজ কিছুই হচ্ছে না অর্থাৎ প্রিন্ট হচ্ছে না। বিস্তারিত দেখার
সুবিধার্থে ১০টি স্ক্রীনশট এ্যাটাচ করা হলো। নিশ্চয় এবার আমার উবুন্টু
কনটিনিউ হতে পারে, তাই না?

উবুন্টুতে সব সময় থাকতে পারি না। একটিই কারন, শুধুমাত্র প্রিন্ট দেয়ার
জন্য ইউন্ডোজে যেতে হয়। কেউ কি নেই যে আমাকে এই সমস্যার সমাধান দিবেন
যাতে করে সাধের উবুন্টুতে সব সময় থাকতে পারবো। ম্যানুয়াল কনফিগার এবং
অটোকনফিগার কোনটাই দিয়ে প্রিন্ট হচ্ছে না। প্রিন্ট দেয়ার পর প্রসেসিং
দেখাচ্ছে আমি প্রায় ২২মিনিট পর্যন্ত প্রসেসিং দেখেছি, তাতে আমার মনে
হচ্ছে এই ভাবে কিয়ামত হয়ে গেলেও উবুন্টুর প্রিন্ট প্রসেসিং ফুরাবে না।

এর চেয়ে কষ্টকর কি আছে, প্রিন্টার ব্র্যান্ড চেঞ্জ করেও একটা প্রিন্ট কপি
দেখার ভাগ্য হলো না। এবার তো প্রশ্ন করতে ইচ্ছে করছে আদৌ কি
লিনাক্স-উবুন্টুতে কোন কাগজ প্রিন্ট হয়!!

যাক কষ্টের কথা গুলো এই ভাবেই লিখলাম, মনে কষ্ট নিবেন না। শুধু হেল্প করে
কষ্ট লাঘব করবেন। আশায় রইলাম, যে একদিন না একদিন আমার এইচপি ডি১৬৬০
প্রিন্টারটি উবুন্টুতে প্রিন্ট দিতে সক্ষম হবে।

1. search for hplip in synaptic and install the packages, including the
hplip gui
2. use the gui and see f you can print now.

if above doesnt work,

get the automatic installer from this link
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html   (first
remove the printer)

after that if you still cant add printer run "sudo hp-setup"

অাপনার কষ্টের কথা শুনে কষ্ট হচ্ছে। অাপনি হতাশ হবেন না। অবশ্যই অাপনি প্রিন্ট
করতে পারবেন। যেমন অামি পারছি। অনেকে পারছেন। অামারটা অবশ্য এপসন ফটো
স্টাইলার্স। অাপনার ক্ষেত্রে হয়তো কোন expert একটু সময় দিতে হবে। (অফ দি রেকড)
অাপনি রিং ভাই  এর সাথে যোগাযোহ করেন। সবাই খুবই helpful তবে ওনাকে অামার বেশী
প্রচেস্টাকারী মনে হয়। উনি হাল ছাড়তে জানেন না।

আর ভাইয়া আপনার কেনন *Pixma ই১৩০০* অতি সহজেই ইনস্টল করা যেত . এই যে দেখুন:

এইটা হয় নাই । নেটে সার্চ দিয়ে যত পাওয়া যায় তার কোনটাই কাজ করে না।
ওই বন্ধুর স্পিকারের জন্য আমি গুগলে অনেক ঘেটেছি। কোনটাই কাজ করেনি।

একমাত্র এটা ছাড়া,

টুলবারের স্পিকার আইকন থেকে Sount Preferences এ ক্লিক করে
যেই উইন্ডো আসে ওখান থেকে ঠিক করা যাবে। ওখানে নিচের দিকে একটা ড্রপডাউন
লিস্ট আছে। সেখান থেকে 4:1 কনফিগারেশন টা সিলেক্ট করে দিলেই কাজ হয়ে
যাবে।OUTPUT ট্যাবে গিয়ে নিচে Connector ড্রপডাউন লিস্টে দেখুন অনেকগুলা
ওপশন আছে । ওটা ঠিক করে দিলেই কাজ হয়ে যাবে।


একমাত্র এইটাই কাজ করেছে আমার ক্ষেত্রে।

[Ubuntu-BD] PC Hang while starting

OS: UBUNTU 10.04 LTS

Just 5 mins ago, while I was starting the PC, a message appeared in a BLACK
screen and its hang.


"*(Process:325): GLib-warning ** : getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user
id(0)*"

Then I restart the PC (ctrl+alt+delete), I have backed the Desktop. Why this
has been appeared? Is my PC going to be crashed?

Did you pressed the escape button of the keyboard while booting up? Pressing
escape key shows the background process.

কিন্তু "আমার কাছে লিঙ্ক আছে। দরকার হলে মেইল করেন" টাইপের কথা বলে
পাইরেসিকে প্রোমোট করার কি মানে?
এই কথাটাও প্রাইভেটলি বলা যায়। এই ধরণের কোন কথা এই লিস্টে না বলাই ভাল।
যারা এরকম কথা বলে তারা একটু সতর্ক হওয়া উচিৎ।

The upgraded kernel of ubuntu 10.04 that you have installed after installing
the base ubuntu OS, have a bug that unable to mount /tmp and /  cleanly. I
am having the same msg in my Lucid Server of my company's HO. The bug was
reported and It will be solved in the next update. In my calculation it will
be done by the next weekend.

If u got that msg next time just press 's' from the keyboard or press
Ctrl+Alt+Del at once.

আপনার কেনা প্রিন্টার টি একটি সিরিজের ট্রানজিশান ক্লোন। মানে আপনি আপনার
ছবিগুলোতে খেয়াল করে দেখুন এটার ড্রাইভার হিসেবে মূল সিরিজকে নিয়েছে মানে এইচপি
ডি১৬০০ সিরিজ। কিন্তু আসলে আপনারটার মডেল নম্বর হলো ১৬৬০। আর সমস্যাটা হলো আপনি
এইচপির সাইটে গেলেও এ জাতটার কোন লিনাক্স ড্রাইভার পাবেন না। আর এইচপি
এলআইপিতেও সমস্যাটা যাবে না।

আমি নিজেও এই জাতের একটা প্রিন্টার নিয়ে একটা কর্পোরেটকে সমাধান দিতে গিয়ে
গলদঘর্ম হচ্ছি। একটু অপেক্ষায় থাকুন। ইনশাল্লাহ ৭২ঘন্টার মধ্যে সমাধানটা জানাবো
[আপনারটা সহ তিন তিনজন 'বন্টু'র এই কষ্টের খবর জানতে পেরেছি, অতএব আপনাদের এ
কষ্ট লাঘব যতদ্রুত পারি করবো]।

আমি কখনও ওয়াইম্যাক্স ব্যবহার করিনি।মেইলটা পাঠিয়েছিলাম জানার জন্য, ডংগল
মোডেমটা ব্যবহার করা যায় কিনা, কারন এই মডেমটার একটা সুবিধা আছে যে বিদুৎ চলে
গেলেও ব্যবহার করা যায়। যাইহোক আমি কিছুক্ষন আগেই  কেকসাইজ মডেমেটার সংজোগ নিয়ে
ফেলেছি। ডংগল মোডেমটা নেয়ার ইচ্ছা ছিলো কিন্তু অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে একটা নেট সংযোগ
দরকার ছিলো। তাই এক্সপেরিমেন্ট করার উপায় ছিলো না। আর পরিচিত কাউকে পাইনি যে
কিউবি ডংগল মোডেমটা ব্যবহার করে।

কাউকে কোন কিছু শিখানোর বা পন্ডিতি করা ইচ্ছা ছিলো না। শুধু সবার পরামর্শ নেয়া
উদ্দেশ্য ছিলো। আমার উদ্দেশ্য ছিলো যদি কেউ ডংগল মোডেমটা  লিন্যাক্সে ব্যবহার
করে থাকেন তাহলে ব্যবহার করার উপায়টা কি।

আমার বিগত মেইলগুলোতে কেউ আঘাত পেয়ে থাকলে ক্ষ্মার দৃষ্টিতে দেখবেন।

hplip তো উবুন্টুর রেপোতেই আছে। আমার hp laserjet 1020 তো লুসিডে
অটোডিটেক্ট করে প্লাগইন ডাউনলোড করতে চায়, ওকে করলে নিজে নিজেই হয়ে

কনফিগার করতে পারিনি। দেখা যাক ৬৬ ঘন্টা আরো তো বাকি। আপনাদের উপকারে কি করা
যায়? কোন সমাধান দিতে না পারলে আমি কর্পোরেট হাউজটাকে শুধুমাত্র প্রিন্টারগুলোর
জন্য "জানালা"তে রেখে দিতে হবে। আমার উবুন্টু প্রচারনার করুন পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটবে

আমার দৃষ্টিতে কোন রকম কষ্ট দেবার মতো পোষ্ট আপনারগুলো ছিলো না তো। কেন
মিছেমিছি মনটাকে ছোট করছেন? এটা একটা বিশাল পরিবার দাদা। এখানে সবাই সহযোগী
মনোভাবাপন্ন।

আমি এবং মেহেদীভাই আপনাকে জানিয়েছিলাম অাইটিকানেক্ট ব্যবহারের অভিজ্ঞতার কথা।

শুভেচ্ছা নিবেন। কাজ হোক বা না হোক আপনার উপকারী মনটার খোঁজ পেয়ে ভালো লাগছে।
আমি জানি এর পূর্বেও আপনি আমাকে অনেক ব্যাপারে হেল্প করেছেন।
কেউ কেউ বলছেন এইচপি এলআইপি-জিইউআই দিয়ে কাজ হতে পারে। একটু দেখবেন ব্যাপারটা।
আর একটা কথা এইচপি ডি১৬৬০ প্রিন্টার কিন্তু এক্সপিতে ডি১৬০০ সিরিজ সফটওয়্যার
দিয়েই প্রিন্ট হয়।
এটার জন্য সফটওয়্যারের কোথাও  এইচপি ডি১৬৬০ লিখা দেখিনি। সবখানে ডি১৬০০ সিরিজ
কথা বলা আছে।
প্লিজ ভাই একটু দেখেন তো কিভাবে আমি উবুন্টুতে এইচপি ডি১৬৬০ প্রিন্টার দিয়ে
প্রিন্ট করতে পারি।
তাহলে আমাকে আর বার বার এক্সপিতে যেতে হবে না।

প্লিজ রিয়াদ ভাই, আপনার উপরের বক্তব্য মতে একটু হেল্প করুন জনাব রিং ভাইকে।
উনি কিন্তু আমাদের নিয়ে খুব সমস্যায় আছেন।
আর আমি তো একদম নতুন, ফলে প্লিজ ভাই রিং ভাইকে একটু এব্যাপারে হেল্প করুন,
কিভাবে আপনি

আমি নিজেও এই একই ভেজালে পড়েছি আগেই বলেছি। সমাধানের রাস্তাটাও আপনার মতোই
ছিলো। কিন্তু সমস্যা হলো রাস্তার শেষে গিয়ে দেখা গেল ওটা কানাগলি ছাড়া আর কিছুই
না। মানে হলো যেই চিপায় ছিলাম সেখানেই আছি। আরো ঝামেলার বস্তু হলো cups এর
সাথের কিছু মিসিং ডিপেডেন্সি ইন্সটল করেছিলাম hp-lipটা দিয়ে তারপর ক্যাননগুলো ও
এখন ঝামেলা করছে। তাই বেশ কিরিঞ্চির মইধ্যে আছি। আজ রাতের মধ্যেই কিছু একটা
করতে হবে। এইচপির সাপোর্টে মেইল দিলে ওরা কোন সমাধান দেয় না।

ক্যাননের আইআর১৬০০ আইপি প্রিন্টার নিয়ে এইরকম ঝামেলায় পড়ায় ড্রাইভারের .ppd
ফাইলটাকে এডিট করেছিলাম। মনে হচ্ছে আবারো সে পথেই হাঁটতে হবে।

দোয়া রাখেন ভাই, যেন এই চিপা থেকে দ্রুতই মুক্তি পাই।

আমি জানি যে ওটা ওয়াইম্যাক্স। তবে এজ আর জিপিআরএস এর মধ্যে প্রযুক্তিগত
পার্থক্য থাকলেও জাতএক তেমনি এদুটোও। আর কিউবির কেকসাইজ টা তো ব্যবহার করেইছি।
তাই জানি যে ওদের সিকিউরিটির লেভেলটা কি। আশা করি ডঙ্গলটাকেও চেখে দেখবো
অতিশীঘ্রই।

অ:ট: শাহান তোমারে কিন্তু সাইজ করুম। মিয়া আমারে অনলাইন+অফলাইন সব জায়গায় 'রিং'
নামে ডাকো রে ভাই। ওইটা শুনলে মনে হয় আমি ভালো একটা "বন্ডিং এলিমেন্ট"। নিজেরেই
উবুন্টু উবুন্টু মনে হয় তখন। খেয়াল করে দেখো ওখানেও "রিং"।

ব্যাপার টা শেষ পর্যন্ত কি দাড়ালো ? আর wimax এ কি wvdial দিয়ে ডায়াল
করা যাবে ? নাকি অন্য কিছু আছে ? উবুন্টুফোরামের যে লিংক দিয়েছিলাম ওটা
এখনও সমাধান করা সম্ভব হয় নাই। ডঙ্গলটাকে মডসুইচ দিয়ে সুইচ করে মডেম
বানানো গেছে কিন্তু সেটাকে মডেম হিসাবে চিনতে পারে না। মডপ্রবের রেজাল্ট
এখনও পাইনাই।

রাজশাহীতে বাংলাবিলাই চলে আসছে। কয়েকদিন পরে আমিও ওটা নিতে চাচ্ছি। তখন
আমাকেও আবার একই চিপায় পড়তে হবে।  হয়ত দেখা যাবে আরেকটা পিসিতে
জানালাতে মডেম রেখে ল্যান করে আমার পিসি চালানো লাগবে। :(

কার্নেলে বাগ রিপোর্ট পেলে কার্নেল টিম ওটাকে পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষা করে বড়জোর ১৫
দিনের মধ্যে নতুন আপডেট দিয়ে সমাধান দেয়। আমি গতমাসের ২২ তারিখে ঢুঁশ মারছি।
হিসেব মতে দশদিনের মেয়াদ এই শুক্রবারেই তো শেষ হয় নাকি।

ডংগল মডেমটা আরোও একটা বড় সমস্যা এর ফ্রীকোয়েন্সি ধরার ক্ষমতা কম। খুব ভালো
নেটওয়ার্ক না থাকলে না নেয়াটাই ভালো। (সুত্রঃ কিউবি সাপোর্ট ইঞ্জিনিয়ার)

আমি কেক সাইজটা ব্যবহার করি, সমস্যা ছিল বিদুৎ নিয়ে, বিদুৎ গেলে উপিএস দিয়ে
চালাচ্ছি। খুব একটা বিদুৎ টানে না তাই অনেকক্ষন বেকআপ পাওয়া যাচ্ছে।
