[Ubuntu-BD] problem in grub

2010-04-30 Thread S M Nazmul Mahmud
Dear All,
hope you are fine and enjoying the latest release of Ubuntu.
I'm having problem installing the fresh copy of the new release.
Let me explain in brief..
I had 3 OS in my PC. Ubuntu 9.10, Linux Mint 8 and Windows XP.
A few days ago, I reinstalled XP because of virus problem, so the bootloader
vanished and only the newly installed XP loaded directly.

I tried the method found in Amader Projukti.com to update my bootloader, but
failed.
Here are my results:

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ".
See "man sudo_root" for details.

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub
Searching for GRUB installation directory ...
No GRUB directory found. To create a template run 'mkdir /boot/grub' first.
To install grub, install it manually or try the 'grub-install' command. ###
Warning, grub-install is used to change your MBR. ###

ubu...@ubuntu:~$

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo grub

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For
the first word, TAB lists possible command
completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
 completions of a device/filename. ]

grub> find /boot/grub/stage1

Error 15: File not found

grub>

Now, after the release of Ubuntu 10.04, I wish to install it over my
previous Ubuntu 9.10, but wish to get back my Linux Mint and XP as well.
Please suggest me how can I do that ASAP coz I'm eagerly waiting to install
the latest release.

You are looking at a old version solution. It will not work from 9.10.

You should try this:

Dear Nasim Bhai and Lenin Bhai,
Thank you very much for the great help.
I'm in Ubuntu 10.04 now n the felling is great so far. There was no problem
configuring my Smile BD broadband service.
And the system is really working faster.

The bootloader is working fine.

2010-04-30 Thread Nasir Khan Saikat

আমি usb fdd, usb hdd, usb zip কে first boot ডিভাইস

2010-04-30 Thread S M Nazmul Mahmud
I don't know which motherboard you are using in your pc.
in my Gigabyte G31 case, the usb is detected as the hard disk drive.
at the boot priority option, i have selected the hard disk drive as my 1st
boot device.
and at the hard disk drive option in it, i need to select the priority of
the hdd drives.
there, i selected the usb as the 1st hdd, and my seagate hdd as the 2nd hdd.
hope it helps in your case as well.

let me know whether it works or not.
