Firefox will only use one profile at a time. It does this by putting a lock
file in your profile folder when it starts. When you exit Firefox, the lock
file is removed. If the lock file already exists when you start Firefox, or
in a few other cases where the profile cannot be opened, Firefox displays an
error message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a
new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart
your system."

Go through your task or process list and stop each instance of the Mozilla
application, or restart your computer.
If that failed, Firefox may have shut down abnormally, leaving the lock in
place. To fix this, open the profile folder and delete "lock" and
".parentlock" files.

That's it.

One more thing, if you are unable to unlock the profile using the above
methods, use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and transfer your
data from the locked profile to the new profile. Then from the Profile
Manager, you can delete the old profile.

and abt the resolution of my monitor, I use it in Windows, no prob yet.
and I guess my black out prob occured coz I enabled 'blur' in effects.

Did you enable simple compiz config with your settings?

Did you try 1152x864 with Windows also? Is it your monitor's supported? is
the refresh rate safe for your monitor?

The blackout happened with my HP520 and happens if I enable the
*blur*option on the simple compiz config. I came around by editing the
.gnome and
.gnome-settings something like these... inside those folders I edited the
settings xml files and eliminated the blur containing tag and it came back
okay.

As a matter of fact I must also tell you that I have lots of alternatives to
login. 1. gnome two users with admin priviledge 2. KDE 3. Xfce 4 openbox

Yes its possible to learn python without learning C or C++. But as C is
mother of most other languages its better to start with it first. Google is
promoting Python as its primary choice. Google app engine's primary language
is also Python. So, its a good idea to start learning Python. Our member
masnun is practicing Python, so you can interact with him for starter.

Well, if you can learn c, c++ without learning other languages, you can
definitely learn python as well. When we start learning our first language,
we don't know other languages then, do we?

Python is a brilliant language. http://python.org is the official web site.
You'll find decent documentation on the site. I learnt python just by
reading their official manuals.

You can also google for python tutorials.

Now about resources -- python.org has a rich list of python resources (look
at the most right-bottom cell).

And I recommend these resources:
http://web.py -- a beautiful web framewrok
http://portablepython.com -- carry python in a usb stick
http://diveintopython.org/ -- a good book

The best way is to install a IDE and try python yourself... I am also
learning python... Don't forget to share what you explore.

I love it. Only if there were a good number of free/paid web hosts
supporting python like we have for php, I'd choose only one language --
python for everything.

Python is lately being ported to Nokia phones. Ubuntu also uses Python for
some of it's internal functionalities as far as I know :)
