Doctoral Symposium of CISTI'2019 - 14th Iberian Conference on Information
Systems and Technologies
   Coimbra, Portugal, 19 - 22
June 2019

http://www.cisti.eu/

The purpose of CISTI'2019’s Doctoral Symposium is to provide graduate students
a setting where they can, informally, expose and discuss their work, collecting
valuable expert opinions and sharing new ideas, methods and applications. The
Doctoral Symposium is an excellent opportunity for PhD students to present and
discuss their work in a Workshop format. Each presentation will be evaluated by
a panel composed by at least three Information Systems and Technologies experts.

Contributions Submission

The Doctoral Symposium is opened to PhD students whose research area includes
the themes proposed for this Conference. Submissions must include an extended
abstract (maximum 4 pages), following the Conference style guide
. All selected contributions will be
handed out along with the Conference Proceedings, in CD with an ISBN. These
contributions will be available in the IEEE Xplore
 Digital
Library and will be sent for indexing in ISI, Scopus, EI-Compendex, INSPEC and
Google Scholar.

Submissions must include the field, the PhD institution and the number of
months devoted to the development of the work. Additionally, they should

Re: [UAI] Recent work on explanation or other qualitative analysis in belief networks

2018-12-12 Thread Francisco Javier Diez

Robert Dodier wrote on 06/12/2018 19:33:

Hi everybody,

I am catching up on current research in Bayesian belief networks after some
years in the wilderness. I'm interested in the possibility of Bayesian
inference applications in medicine. Towards that end, I think explanation or
some other qualitative presentation of results could be important to help
people understand how and why results are generated.

A web search seems to find references that I remember seeing before, such as the
excellent article by Madigan et al., "Graphical Explanation in Belief
Networks". However i can't seem to find more recent works on this topic. I also
browsed the proceedings of the UAI conference and came up empty handed. I guess I must be
overlooking something.

If someone can point me to publications or other resources about explanation or
other forms of qualitative analysis in belief networks or probabilistic models
more generally, I'll be very appreciative.

Dear Robert,

These publications are not recent but might be interesting for you.

Most of the explanation facilities developed for Elvira are now
implemented in its successor, OpenMarkov, www.openmarkov.org.

You may also find interesting explanation facilities in GeNIe, which is
distributed by BayesFusion, www.bayesfusion.com.

If you find more recent references, please let us know. I am very
interested in the topic, but I don't remember seeing any progress in the
last years.

Best wishes

AAMAS 2019 Doctoral Consortium
May 13, 2019
Montreal, Canada
http://aamas2019.encs.concordia.ca/cfdc.html

IMPORTANT DATES:

— Submission due: January 28, 2019
— Notification of acceptance: March 4, 2019
— Camera Ready due: March 11, 2019
— Doctoral Consortium: May 13, 2019

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM PROGRAM:

The doctoral consortium (DC) of AAMAS 2019 is intended for PhD students in
order to interact closely and receive feedback from established researchers in
their fields. Each accepted student to the program will be matched with an
established researcher in the field who will assist the student with research
and career management advice. An informal lunch will be organised between the
students and their mentors allowing for in-depth discussion and exchange.

Each student will be given ample time to orally present their work and
therefore be able to fully benefit from direct feedback from the assigned
senior researcher mentor and their peers. Furthermore, the students will also
present a poster of their PhD work during the poster session of the main
conference. Apart from extra feedback, this will also help provide students
with new contacts and professional networking opportunities.

The DC is intended for PhD students who have a specific research proposal and
some preliminary results, but who have sufficient time prior to completing
their dissertation to benefit from the consortium experience. Preference will
be given to students satisfying these criteria, but well-motivated applications
from students who are at earlier or later stages of their doctoral studies will
also be considered.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

The submission package should include the following items in one single pdf
file:
1. A cover sheet containing: the student's name, email address, homepage,
university affiliation, gender, citizenship, PhD start date, expected
graduation date, name and email of PhD supervisor, at least three mentor
suggestions (should be chosen from the list of PCs or SPCs in past AAMAS
conferences, for example, the list of PCs for AAMAS 2018 can be found here:
http://celweb.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/aamas18/pc/), and at least three area of
study keywords (should be chosen from the list of topics of interest in the
AAMAS' call for paper: http://aamas2019.encs.concordia.ca/cfp.html).

2. A 1-page letter of support from the supervisor.
3. A 2-page CV that includes the list of publications of the student.
4. A 2-page extended abstract of the student's thesis (in AAMAS submission
format)
5. A 1-page personal statement citing around five favourite papers in the field
and how they influenced the students’ work.

Applications should be submitted via confmaster (please check the AAMAS 2019
website).

The selection process will consider the quality of the submitted proposal and
the stage of the student's PhD project. Doctoral students who submit to the DC
are encouraged to submit papers to the associated workshops.

Important: All students, including DC applicants, should apply for student
scholarships separately on the scholarship website. While acceptance to the DC
may play a role in scholarship decisions, those decisions are made by the
scholarship chairs and are subject to available funding support.

For any questions please contact the doctoral consortium co-chairs.

[UAI] LPNMR 2019 Call for Papers ** INVITED SPEAKERS TO BE ANNOUNCED **

2018-12-12 Thread Gregory Gelfond
 Call for Papers
---

   15th International Conference on
Logic Programming and Non-monotonic Reasoning
   LPNMR 2019

 https://sites.sju.edu/plw/lpnmr-2019/

Philadelphia, USA
  June 4-7, 2019

Part of the philadelphia Loogic Week 2019
https://sites.sju.edu/plw/
Co-located with
  Datalog 2.0 Workshop
International Workshop on Bidirectional Transformations

---

AIMS AND SCOPE

LPNMR 2019 is the fifteenth in the series of international meetings
on logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning. LPNMR is a forum
for exchanging ideas on declarative logic programming, non-monotonic
reasoning, and knowledge representation. The aim of the conference is
to facilitate interactions between researchers and practitioners
interested in the design and implementation of logic-based programming
languages and database systems, and those working in knowledge
representation and nonmonotonic reasoning. LPNMR strives to encompass
theoretical and experimental studies that have led or will lead to
advances in declarative programming and knowledge representation, as
well as their use in practical applications. A Doctoral Consortium
will also be a part of the program.

This year's edition of the conference seeks to raise submissions devoted
towards use of LPNMR techniques in emerging applications stemming from such
areas as deep learning, robotics, cybersecurity, modeling cyberphysical
systems, and human-aware AI. Aspects that have been studied in commonsense
reasoning, inconsistency tolerance, and handling of dynamic knowledge appear
essential in enabling these emerging applications toprovide
explanations and justifications of their outcomes. LPNMR 2019 aims to
bring together researchers from LPNMR core areas and application areas of
the aforementioned kind in order to share research experiences, promote
collaboration and identify directions for joint future research.

INVITED SPEAKERS
