Definitely not solved in Wily (15.10).

Its an irritating problem. Also with the Stylishdark theme the button
state is still hardly visible.

  In the default Ubuntu theme, the pressed/activated and deactivated
  button states are very similar and hard to differ. It is therefore

This problem is certainly not solved in Wily (15.10). With the
Stylishdark theme the button status is still hardly visible. The
Highcontrast theme solves the button status problem but introduces
another: on the window in focus, of the window buttons only the Close
button is visible. And this is not a very attractive theme from an
aesthetic perspective
