[Touch-packages] [Bug 1832834] Re: Irregular system freezes after updating to 1.1.1b-1ubuntu2.2

2023-05-14 Thread Adrien Nader
Are some logs available for this? Such issues are especially surprising
for security updates because they contain very few changes (on purpose)
and this update was definitely small.

Title:
Irregular system freezes after updating to 1.1.1b-1ubuntu2.2

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Yesterday, I've updated openssl on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ running disco
  arm64 from 1.1.1b-1ubuntu2.1 to 1.1.1b-1ubuntu2.2 . That was at 10:41
CEST. About 12:36 the system froze. I was able to reset the system at
around 17:17. It froze again at around 17:55. Reset it again 19:09,
  froze again 00:15.

Freeze = solid green "busy" light and doesn't answer to anything.
Since it's a headless system, I only have the logfiles but they don't
  show anything obvious.

At 01:06, I've downgraded back to 1.1.1b-1ubuntu2.1 and didn't have
ANY freeze at all since then (13:13 now here).

The system is running ejabberd, SyncThing and a few more programs,
that make heavy use of OpenSSL.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1865204] Re: Multiple packages broke with openssl 1.1.1 upgrade

2023-05-14 Thread Adrien Nader
I'm sorry this bug flew under the radar. These seem to have been bugs
with the stunnel4 and pure-ftpd rather than openssl but I understand why
you've filled a bug for openssl too.

I can't tell if it would have made sense to initially disable TLS 1.3 by
default when pushing openssl 1.1.1 but I think it caused some issues and
this can be something to keep in mind for the future.

As for this specific bug, I think it will be WONTFIX anyway since bionic
is almost end-of-life now.

Title:
Multiple packages broke with openssl 1.1.1 upgrade

Status in openssl package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
While I welcome the adding of security features by upgrading vital packages
like openssl,
there are at least two packages that I know of which ran fine with libssl
1.1.0 and do not with libssl 1.1.1. This bug has been introduced with the
migration from openssl 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 in one of the last point releases.

  1. stunnel4 3:5.44-1ubuntu3

stunnel4 breaks with openssl 1.1.1 (which supports TLS 1.3).

I get errors when a Windows stunnel client connects to the stunnel4
  daemon:

  Feb 20 14:10:03 peterpan.neverland stunnel[24427]: LOG3[0]: s_connect:
connect ::1:3128
  : Connection refused (111)

This can be fixed when I manually add "MaxProtocol = TLSv1.2" to
/etc/ssl/openssl.conf, showing that TLS 1.3 introduced by openssl
  1.1.1 is the culprit.

stunnel4 needs an update. At least for stunnel4, another fix would be
to specify "sslVersion = TLSv1.2" in its config file.

  2. pure-ftpd 1.0.46-1build1

Same thing here. You cannot connect once you use "tls=2" or higher if
openssl 1.1.1 with TLS 1.3 is active. Only fix here I found is to
limit the max protocol in openssl for all applications. pure-ftpd
itself has no means of controlling the TLS version, at least not in
  the bionic version of it.

I use Ubuntu Server 18.04.04 LTS, BTW and openssl was
  1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.5.

Both problems could be fixed by backporting stunnel4 and pure-ftpd packages
from Focal Fossa.

I don't think there's enough information in the ticket at the moment to
be able to pinpoint the issue.

Since the issue is linked to the postinst which we've been shrinking but
still need to shrink more (and maybe make more verbose), I'm going to
mark this as a duplicate of LP#1971650 which I've been using for all the
unidentified postinst issues (because I expect that solving this one
will make the postinst more reliable).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1456396] Re: Error on configuring

2023-05-14 Thread Adrien Nader
I'm going to mark this bug as a Invalid on the openssl side since the
issue is more likely with debconf or at least makes more sense to handle
from there or the like.

Btw, I've gone over many years of openssl tickets on launchpad and I've
marked several tickets as duplicate of this bug, which explains the high
karma/affects.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2019501] [NEW] Matebook D15 AMD Ryzen 5500U - Can't find Headphones/Speakers and not working

2023-05-14 Thread Jacopo Damerini
Public bug reported:

My speakers and headphones jack don't work properly: Ubuntu can't find
these audio output and can't of course reproduce a sound. Using USB
audio card [to connect headphones jack/mic] works, and also I can use
the HDMI video and audio output perfectly.

I've tested the speakers and headphones with Windows and there's no problem.

Title:
  bad LAN download speed

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
since some weeks before update to 22.04.2, the lan speed is almost
  down to modem-speed 33K/s; but the max. lan-speed should be 6 MB/s.

At the beginning of a download is a higher peak of a couple of 100 K/s
but is goes down in seconds to modem-speed 33k and less.

the update to 22.04.2 needs more the 24 hours to download,
so the lan is almost unusable now!

If you need further info, please let me know how to create them.

i expect a LAN download speed up to 6 MB/s as before

I'm tempted to say this is an issue in debconf but it seems the postinst
was running and I've seen other errors with it so I'm going to mark this
as a duplicate of the bug about moving away from this postinst.

2023-05-14 Thread Adrien Nader
This error started a couple hours only after the user installed "oracle-
java6-installer" with only an "apt -f install". I suspect the system was
already broken at that point, possibly due to the java6 install or to
user changes to make it work if it wasn't working immediately.

I was thinking of making this Incomplete at first but thinking more
about this, I'm more inclined to mark it as Invalid.

2023-05-14 Thread Adrien Nader
I'm not able to find much in the logs. The error itself also does not
necessarily originate from openssl: it could simply be the victim of
something else (like a crash or power off while it was being installed I
think). I'm going to mark this as Incomplete due to this.

Bug description:
This is an issue which has troubled me for a while. Anecdotally,
scrolling feels way too fast in GNOME on Wayland compared to on X11. I
finally tested it semi-scientifically, and it seems like GNOME on
Wayland scrolls almost exactly 1.5x faster than GNOME on X11.

I tested this by testing how many lines are scrolled from a full two-
finger touchpad swipe from the bottom of my touchpad to the top of my
touchpad, and logged a few attempts in both X and Wayland. I kept
track of the results in this spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17EaBM5Pgt7GdnnzcN2Vchk4kfT7IZ6i4qZ0zpVRGLhc/edit?usp=sharing

I scrolled in one of my own GTK applications
(https://github.com/mortie/lograt) because it lets me easily see how
many lines I scrolled. Attach is a video of one full scroll on X11 and
  one full scroll on Wayland.

This testing was performed on a Dell XPS 13 9343, but I've also used
Ubuntu on a Dell XPS 9575 where GNOME Wayland scrolling also feels way
too fast. I don't have other hardware to test on.

This has been an issue on both Ubuntu 20.10 and Ubuntu 21.04.

Bug description:
gconf is being removed from Debian Testing. We should remove it from
  Ubuntu also.

eclipse is troublesome. At a minimum, we can remove everything but
  eclipse and gconf.

libgnome is sort of a blocker so do it first LP: #1771031
  And remove libqt-gconf LP: #1740538

Bug description:
  [Impact]

kwin might crash after running some time

Two commits have been reverted upstream since 22.2.x branch was
closed, needs those backported to fix this.

  [Test case]

Run kwin for a day or so, which is usually enough time to hit this.

Crash happens mostly on a notification popups, so system must be
actively receiving notifications to test the crash. Without that crash
may not happen even in a week of runtime.

  [Where things could go wrong]

This just reverts two commits, and they have been upstream for a few
months now, so these causing a regression is unlikely.
