[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988819] Re: When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should say nothing

2023-02-03 Thread lochfynne
I totally agree with the previous writer.
Until reading this article, I manually upgraded Kept-back packages.

I support the idea of phased upgrades, but please create a separate
notification stating something like:
The following packages have been kept back as a part of phased upgrade policy
of Ubuntu:

This allows the user to deal with any other package issues separately.

Title:
  When apt keeps back packages due to phased updates, it should say
  nothing

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  After phased updates have been introduced, it may happen that apt
  upgrade shows packages as upgradable but ends up not upgrading them.
  In this case the packages are indicated as being "kept back".

  Unfortunately, the feedback provided about this to the user is not
  very informative. The user sees the packages being kept back and
  thinks something is going wrong on the system.

  When packages are kept back because of phased updates, apt should say
  so e.g., it should say that the upgrade is delayed.

  Incidentally note that aptitude does not respect phased updates.

according to the Depends info ubuntu-advantage-desktop-daemon

  good if we could arrange for add-apt-repository to use the new domains

  The changes are:

   * http://ppa.launchpad.net/ → https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/ (or http://

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004634] [NEW] Disable Ubuntu Pro registration when not online

2023-02-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact

The current UI allows the user to try to register to Ubuntu Pro even
when the system isn't online, which eventually leads to an error since
the client fails to contact the server. The updated design disable the
registration UI in those cases and inform the user they need to get
online to be able to register which is a better experience.

* Test Case

- ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed) and is online
$ pro status
and `$ pro detach` if needed

- disconnect the system, using for example the top panel indicator

- start software-properties-gtk and select the Ubuntu Pro tab

- click 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'

- The dialog controls should be disabled and a string 'Unable to connect
to Ubuntu Pro servers. Check your internet connection.' displayed at the
bottom

- reconnect the system

- the dialog control should become active and the label be removed

- register to Ubuntu Pro, that should be working

* Regression potential

If the connectivity check was wrong or not reliable it could be that the
dialog controls would be disabled even if the system is online, or that
it would fail to detect that the system isn't connected and let the user
try to register anyway.

+
+ The change also adds a new translatable string. Since currently we don't
+ include translations for that new UI it isn't really a regression. We
+ still plan to fix that by the next languagepack update.

  * Regression potential

  If the connectivity check was wrong or not reliable it could be that
  the dialog controls would be disabled even if the system is online, or
  that it would fail to detect that the system isn't connected and let
  the user try to register anyway.

  The change also adds a new translatable string. Since currently we
  don't include translations for that new UI it isn't really a
  regression. We still plan to fix that by the next languagepack update.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2003892] Re: libcap2 seems to not work correctly when linked with -Bsymbolic-functions

2023-02-03 Thread Danilo Egea Gondolfo
The problem is reproducible on Focal (kernel 5.4) in an armhf LXD
container. The armhf architecture seems to be the only one using hosts
with kernel 5.4. I believe the best approach is to skip only the test
that is failing rather than the entire test script. So we will need to
patch d/t/upstream-root. Once we upgrade the hosts used for armhf tests
we can drop the patch.

Title:
  Can't connect to hotspot created on ubuntu

Status in wpa package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  We currently have older systems (18.04) with hotspot's and we will migrate to
22.04.
  Anything work's fine, expect the hotspot.
  The Hotspot will be created and is visible in the WLAN-List, but if the
security is set to "WPA & WPA2 Personal" we get the error message "Failed to
connect to the network".
  If we change the Security to "WPA3 Personal" we get the error message
"Invalid Password", even if the password is correct.
  As soon we remove the security (change it to "none"), we can connect with out
any problems.

  We can reproduce it with a fresh installtion of the Ubuntu Server
  22.04 and the following two commands:

  apt install network-manager

  nmcli c add type wifi ifname wlp3s0 con-name Hotspot autoconnect yes
  ssid test-ap 802-11-wireless.mode ap 802-11-wireless.band bg
  802-11-wireless.mac-address "80:45:dd:f0:27:ba" wifi-sec.group ccmp
  wifi-sec.key-mgmt wpa-psk wifi-sec.pairwise ccmp wifi-sec.proto rsn
  wifi-sec.psk "test12345" ipv4.addresses 192.168.60.1/24 ipv4.method
  shared && nmcli connection up Hotspot

  We thought it could be similar to this issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267
  Because if we test it with 20.04 it worked fine, because 20.04 uses the
Version 2:2.9.0-21build1 as described in the Ticket.

  As @Sebastian Bacher suggested
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267/comments/58), i
created a own report.
  In the attachment is the requested log file.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991761] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.2 HWE stack

2023-02-03 Thread Sebastian Castro
We found a breaking change with this when running an application that
relies on ogre 1.9 for rendering inside a Docker container based on the
ubuntu:jammy image.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004649] [NEW] Regression bug with mesa backport and ogre rendering

2023-02-03 Thread Sebastian Castro
Public bug reported:

We found a breaking change with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1991761 when running
an application that relies on ogre 1.9 for rendering inside a Docker
container based on the ubuntu:jammy image.

We could confirm that the upgrade causing this was as follows, because
the issue goes away when downgrading versions:

[UPGRADE] libegl-mesa0:amd64 22.0.1-1ubuntu2 -> 22.2.5-0ubuntu0.1~22.04.1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004657] [NEW] test_protect_syscall fails on focal-5.15 backports

2023-02-03 Thread Roxana Nicolescu
Public bug reported:

[SRU Impact]

Sysctl was removed from 5.5 kernels. In src/test/test-seccomp.c,
test_protect_syscall
sysctl is called with the expectation the error result is EFAULT and not ENOSYS.
This affects autotests for all focal-5.15 linux kernels (hwe, azure, gcp, oem,
gke, oracle).

[Fix]
Assertion checks if either EFAULT or ENOSYS is returned. This way it will work
for focal-5.4 kernels and focal-5.15 kernels.

[Test to reproduce the issue]
1. Create a vm and install one of the focal-5.15 kernels (i.e
5.15.0-1029.35~20.04.1 linux-oracle-5.15).
2. Run the autotests for upstream and/or root-unittests:
autopkgtest --test-name=upstream  systemd -- qemu

[Test to verify the fix]
1. Same as above
2. Apply the fix in your local repo and run the tests using your local repo
autopkgtest --test-name=upstream   -- qemu

[Where problems could occur]
This is not gonna affect end users since it is a change in the test only.
It may impact autotests, but it's a very low probability.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1990200] Re: goa-daemon crashed with SIGABRT

2023-02-03 Thread Ivan Wolf
I experienced this bug as well, so I updated to the proposed librest
package (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/librest/0.9.1-2ubuntu1).

Bug description:
  * Impact

  The gnome-online-accounts sometime crash after resuming from suspend

  * Test case

  Install the librest update, restart your system and verify that
  configured online accounts keep working. Taking a Google account
  example, calendar events should show in gnome-calendar and the top
  panel widget, evolution should list your email account and nautilus
  should be able to browse your gdrive folder.

  We should also confirm that error reports stop with the library update

  * Regression potential

  The patch makes the code better handle an empty payload. The librest
  rdepends in the archive are gnome-initial-setup/gnome-online-
  accounts/gnome-maps so we should verify that those keep working as
  expected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991141] Re: parser fails to unload profile via "aa-disable" on autopkgtest.u.c (armhf) - "Permission denied"

2023-02-03 Thread John Johansen
Is there anymore info for this? Any kernel messages?

>From the error itself we can determine
The parser has root/admin privileges as it passed an early check for that
without giving an error.
It was able to open the kernel interface to remove the profile.
The likely error here is that it is not policy_admin_capable in the current
namespace (ie. container).

AppArmor would log a message to the kernel that the task does not have
cap MAC_ADMIN if this is the case.

If this is the case the container will need to be setup to have that
capability.

  The error looks like this:

  ERROR: /sbin/apparmor_parser: Unable to remove "/usr/sbin/slapd".
  Permission denied; attempted to load a profile while confined?

  specific to how autopkgtest.u.c launches the armhf containers.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004634] Re: Disable Ubuntu Pro registration when not online

2023-02-03 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Sebastien, or anyone else affected,

Accepted software-properties into jammy-proposed. The package will build

properties/0.99.22.6 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in

  The current UI allows the user to try to register to Ubuntu Pro even
  when the system isn't online, which eventually leads to an error since
  the client fails to contact the server. The updated design disable the
  registration UI in those cases and inform the user they need to get
  online to be able to register which is a better experience.

  * Test Case

  - ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed) and is online
  $ pro status
  and `$ pro detach` if needed

  - disconnect the system, using for example the top panel indicator

  - start software-properties-gtk and select the Ubuntu Pro tab

  - click 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'

  - The dialog controls should be disabled and a string 'Unable to
  connect to Ubuntu Pro servers. Check your internet connection.'
  displayed at the bottom

  - reconnect the system

  - the dialog control should become active and the label be removed

  - register to Ubuntu Pro, that should be working

  * Regression potential

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004245] Please test proposed package

2023-02-03 Thread Brian Murray
Hello errors.ubuntu.com, or anyone else affected,

Accepted software-properties into focal-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-
properties/0.99.9.11 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Can't run dmesg in that container :(

I did run aa-status (after altering the dep8 test, rebuilding,
retesting, etc), got this:

autopkgtest [20:25:06]: test smbk5pwd: [---

You do not have enough privilege to read the profile set.

The code for the above was:

apparmor_parser -r -W -T /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.slapd || {
echo "Failed to reload the profile, let's get some info and

All of this points at a specific restriction in the Canonical

  disable" in a dep8 test. For some reason that I wasn't able to
  determine, the command fails when it's executed on
  autopkgtest.ubuntu.com, but only when run on armhf.

  The error looks like this:

  ERROR: /sbin/apparmor_parser: Unable to remove "/usr/sbin/slapd".
  Permission denied; attempted to load a profile while confined?

  Disabling /usr/sbin/slapd.

  https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
  kinetic/kinetic/armhf/d/django-auth-ldap/20220927_015039_0a1ae@/log.gz

  I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. I believe it's something
  specific to how autopkgtest.u.c launches the armhf containers.

  With setuptools 66, the versions of all packages visible in the Python
  environment *must* obey PEP440 .
  Otherwise, attempts to use pip to install a package with a setup.py-

  pkg_resources.extern.packaging.version.InvalidVersion: Invalid version:
'0.23ubuntu1'

  The official opinion of the setuptools maintainers seems to be that
  version strings of this form haven't *really* been allowed since about
  2014, and distributions need to change their package version naming
  scheme for Python packages they install, so that the resulting version
  strings obey PEP440. See for example
  .

  suffix 1build1 is invalid.

  Some python building tools, that verifies if version strings are
  compatible with PEP440, are failing.

  Example: python poetry: Invalid PEP 440 version: '1.1build1'

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991141] Re: parser fails to unload profile via "aa-disable" on autopkgtest.u.c (armhf) - "Permission denied"

2023-02-03 Thread John Johansen
so some potential low level interfaces you can try probing for more
info.

   /sys/module/apparmor/parameters/enabled

with the aa-status reporting apparmor module is loaded. I expect you
have access to this directory. Which means you can also check

  /sys/module/apparmor/parameters/mode

to verify the mode apparmor is in. In addition you still might be able
to get access to

  /sys/kernel/security/lsm

which would indicate that securityfs is available in the container. You
could then check

  /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/

which would indicate the apparmorfs interface is available in the
container. If that is available you can try

  /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/policy/profiles/

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004634] Autopkgtest regression report (software-properties/0.96.24.32.21)

Bug description:
  * Impact

  The current UI allows the user to try to register to Ubuntu Pro even
  when the system isn't online, which eventually leads to an error since
  the client fails to contact the server. The updated design disable the
  registration UI in those cases and inform the user they need to get
  online to be able to register which is a better experience.

  * Test Case

  - ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed) and is online
  $ pro status
  and `$ pro detach` if needed

  - disconnect the system, using for example the top panel indicator

  - start software-properties-gtk and select the Ubuntu Pro tab

  - click 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'

  - The dialog controls should be disabled and a string 'Unable to
  connect to Ubuntu Pro servers. Check your internet connection.'
  displayed at the bottom

  - reconnect the system

  - the dialog control should become active and the label be removed

  - register to Ubuntu Pro, that should be working

  * Regression potential
