Status in pyxdg package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Please sync pyxdg 0.27-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
* Fix compatibility issue with python 3.8.4 (Closes: #964609, #968399)

pyxdg delta was meant to fix an incompatibility with Python 3.8.4
This was causing a FTBFS at the time. The initial solution was cherry picked
from an upstream github PR and has since been released.
Debian BTS bug is referenced in both ubuntu and debian ChangeLog

Changelog entries since current hirsute version 0.26-3ubuntu1:

  pyxdg (0.27-2) unstable; urgency=medium

* Add the missing build dependency on setuptools.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871959] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in _iris_batch_flush from iris_fence_flush()

2021-02-11 Thread paquin pierre
Hello,

Well I tried... and have some troubles :). After reboot, displaylink didn't
work anymore. I tried to uninstall but when I try to reinstall, here what I
get :
ERROR (dkms apport): binary package for evdi: 1.7.0 not found
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.8.0-43-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/evdi/1.7.0/build/make.log for more information.
ERROR: Failed to install evdi/5.3.1.34 to the kernel tree.

I know this is ubuntu, not displaylink, but if you have any idea that
would be great.

Notice : If i run install twice, I got only 1 error : "Error! DKMS tree
already contains: evdi-1.7.0" and installation continue. But don't
work... Uninstall / reinstall will do same thing (1st fatal error that
stop installer, then this one)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915382] [NEW] external Monitor shows »No Signal« after dpms sleep

2021-02-11 Thread karlsebal
Public bug reported:

My external Monitor connected via HDMI is behaving strange and my
educated guess is it is related to dpms.

Plugging in the monitor it will show »No Signal« although recognized by
`xrandr`. I would have to boot my machine with the monitor plugged in to
make it work. When going to standby (screen blanks after lock, then
screen goes to standby) the monitor is switched on (LED is going white)
and shortly after it will show the no-signal-message. `xrandr` claims
the monitor to be existent. Unplugging and replugging does not help.
Same happens when logging out to greeter. Strange in so far as when
booting up, the greeter is okay with the monitor.

When issuing `xset -dpms` the behaviour changes and the monitor will
enter sleep and come back as expected when locking the session.

Console (tty1-6) is available though at all times.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915092] Re: lib-gtk-3 / lib-gtk-3-dev NOT compatible

2021-02-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Closing the bug then, thanks. There was a matching dev binary but you
hit a special case where the stable update failed verification and was
removed and you were left on a version that doesn't exists anymore,
that's one of the risk of opt-in for proposed updates.

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu-Mate 20.04 and I am trying to compile California (a calendar
program) which requires libgtk-3-dev. When I try to install libgtk-3-dev I
get: The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   libgtk-3-dev : Depends: libgtk-3-0 (= 3.24.23-1ubuntu1) but
3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
So I look at what versions of libgtk-3-0 are available 3.24.23-1ubuntu1 and
3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1, of which the latter is installed. So I tried to force
install the older version so that it would be compatible with the dev files but
it then tries to uninstall my entire Mate desktop, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Launchpad
says NOT to self compile Gtk-3 because it's already installed in Ubuntu 20.04
but the version installed seems to be borked having not been compatible with
the development packages making it impossible to compile anything that uses
gtk-3.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915382] Re: external Monitor shows »No Signal« after dpms sleep

2021-02-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. A couple of questions:

1. Xrandr.txt says nothing is connected to HDMI, but a monitor is
connected to DisplayPort. Are you using an adapter?

2. Does the same bug occur is you choose 'Ubuntu on Wayland' from the
login screen?

Title:
external Monitor shows »No Signal« after dpms sleep

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My external Monitor connected via HDMI is behaving strange and my
educated guess is it is related to dpms.

Plugging in the monitor it will show »No Signal« although recognized
by `xrandr`. I would have to boot my machine with the monitor plugged
in to make it work. When going to standby (screen blanks after lock,
then screen goes to standby) the monitor is switched on (LED is going
white) and shortly after it will show the no-signal-message. `xrandr`
claims the monitor to be existent. Unplugging and replugging does not
help. Same happens when logging out to greeter. Strange in so far as
when booting up, the greeter is okay with the monitor.

When issuing `xset -dpms` the behaviour changes and the monitor will
enter sleep and come back as expected when locking the session.

Console (tty1-6) is available though at all times.

(I generated the bug report with dpms set off accidentally)

Bug description:
In System Sound Settings, I chose HDMI 5.1 audio, but there is no
sound from my subwoofer in any audio application.

The System Sound Settings for HDMI 5.1 always shows a disabled
subwoofer slider. When I open the test window and hit the subwoofer
icon button, no sound is produced.

But if I open Pulse Audio Volume Control -> Output Devices -> (unlock icon),
all show mid-volume on the slider except for subwoffer. But the subwoofer
slider is enabled. So I slide it to mid-volume, and go back to System Sound
Settings -> test window and hit the subwoofer icon button, I hear my subwoofer
is working fine.

I also then hear the subwoofer in all audio applications.

If I were to touch the System Sound Slider for the subwoofer, it
  immediately stops working again.

I can fix it again in Pulse Audio Volumne Control again.

Ubnutu you need to consider on giving a Solid solution for Bluetooth
headsets since that is a common use case for most.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915092] Re: lib-gtk-3 / lib-gtk-3-dev NOT compatible

2021-02-11 Thread Robert Dinse
Since you can't compile against the library without the header file, it would
make sense to me to remove the matching library but at any rate, I understand
the issue and thank you for your
assistance. I found a different calendar that does what I need so I'm good.

   libgtk-3-dev : Depends: libgtk-3-0 (= 3.24.23-1ubuntu1) but
3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
So I look at what versions of libgtk-3-0 are available 3.24.23-1ubuntu1 and
3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1, of which the latter is installed. So I tried to force
install the older version so that it would be compatible with the dev files but
it then tries to uninstall my entire Mate desktop, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Launchpad
says NOT to self compile Gtk-3 because it's already installed in Ubuntu 20.04
but the version installed seems to be borked having not been compatible with
the development packages making it impossible to compile anything that uses
gtk-3.

The 'fix' is to simply lower those log messages to debug level so you
don't see them anymore; as such, I don't really see a need to sru that
to 20.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC

2021-02-11 Thread Balint Reczey
@seb128 I tried remounting /sys in systemd but it created other issues.
I've fixed udevd to not start in lxc in systemd, but this is all systemd can
do. Please detect running udev in network-manager without assuming that rw /sys
implies running udev.

@ LXD devs, please check if the init to start is systemd and if so
please mount /sys ro to conform to systemd's
https://systemd.io/CONTAINER_INTERFACE/ or sort convince systemd
upstream to include LXC in the container interface with rw /sys.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915126] Re: autopkgtest times out (or fails before that) in hirsute on test infra, passes locally

2021-02-11 Thread Balint Reczey
There is not much to do about the failures on systemd's side. The tests
are reliably passing in qemu on my i5-4670 testbed from 2013, also
passing on @paelzer's presumably newer machine.

This is an infra issue. The Release Team can decide if they want to hint
the test and lose gating coverage, but I'm not filing the hint because
IMO the test infra should be fixed.

Bug description:
  Hi,
I've asked yesterday on IRC but so far got no answer. I think it is right to
file a bug about the current state of systemd autopkgtest to unite the efforts
in regard to it.

I was looking at the systemd tests for a no-change rebuild that really
had no reason to now make it fail. While checking I found that as of
this month (first bad test on 1st of February) most of the systemd
test runs on amd64 will not pass/fail but instead in most cases time
  out.

I've seen various people retry the case as it shows the typical
symptoms of a "not the fault of the package, let us retry this" case.
But it seems that won't help as the test history is rather clear.

  * Watch this in monospace to make more sense of it *

otherwise working test (time goes from right to left). So we had the
usual suspects of tests like upstream/systemd-fsck that failed a few
times, but also working runs in between.

But since February 22/24 runs failed very bad.
6 (=B) of those cases are aborting mid execution
autopkgtest [22:08:58]: ERROR: testbed failure: testbed auxverb failed with
exit code 255
And 16 of them timed out
: failure: Timed out on waiting for ssh connection

Sadly the 2/24 that didn't hard fail by that where broken by the known
  flaky systemd-fsckd test.

Something drives this test crazy that we have to find and resolve, at
the current rate nothing depending on it is likely to migrate.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC

2021-02-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
Making /sys read-only will break very very many things that we have no
intention of breaking.
LXD is also completely init system agnostic and we have no idea what the init
system in a particular container may be.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC

2021-02-11 Thread Balint Reczey
@stgraber nothing should break honoring
https://systemd.io/CONTAINER_INTERFACE/ and we are in constant uphill
battle with systemd and other upstreams checking /sys's ro status.

Detecting the init system is easy, please do it in LXD. It may make
sense to allow the user to override that and force /sys readonly in LXC
config, but then it is up to the user to fix failing services, the user
cares about, too.

Is there chance we can be a little bit more constructive? We're not

We see that formerly we had the known to be somewhat flaky, but
otherwise working test (time goes from right to left).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1897561] Re: libperl.so.5.30.0 causes nginx to segfault

2021-02-11 Thread Sami-Pekka Hallikas
In my original report I did say that this really is NOT nginx problem,
but Perl problem. Problem is in perl 5.30 and it is 5.32 (Perl5 commit
bf0) and people are asking backport to 5.30 to get fix also to
nginx.

More in https://github.com/Perl/perl5/issues/17154

My biggest issue is that this bug makes nginx quite unstable in LTS
version of Ubuntu, because perl module is active by default. Maybe quick
fix to get LTS stabile is to disable perl module by default from nginx-
extras (it can delivered in it, but if it commented out from default
config).

Title:
  libperl.so.5.30.0 causes nginx to segfault

Status in perl package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Steps to reproduce]

  1) launch a focal container
  $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal focal-1897561
  2) enter the container
  $ lxc shell focal-1897561
  3) install libnginx-mod-http-perl
  # apt-get install -y nginx-core libnginx-mod-http-perl
  4) check nginx journal
  # journalctl -fu nginx &
  5) reload nginx 2-3 times
  # systemctl reload nginx

Eventually you will see this from the journal:

  Oct 13 17:13:34 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: Reloaded A high performance web
server and a reverse proxy server.
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Main process exited,
code=dumped, status=11/SEGV
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Killing process 588
(nginx) with signal SIGKILL.
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Killing process 589
(nginx) with signal SIGKILL.
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Killing process 588
(nginx) with signal SIGKILL.
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Killing process 589
(nginx) with signal SIGKILL.
  Oct 13 17:13:35 focal-1897561 systemd[1]: nginx.service: Failed with result
'core-dump'.

  [Workaround]

If libnginx-mod-http-perl is not needed, purging it and restarting
  nginx sidesteps the problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915126] Re: autopkgtest times out (or fails before that) in hirsute on test infra, passes locally

2021-02-11 Thread Iain Lane
I'm running a test on Canonistack. I'm hoping that this will reproduce
the failures we're seeing, and then they can be investigated.

That is closer to what is running in production than the QEMU runner.

I don't think we have evidence that this is an 'infra issue', so I'm
marking the auto-package-testing task as incomplete.

Will follow back up probably tomorrow once that test is finished.

Title:
software-properties-{qt,kde} attempts to use KUrl but it doesn't exist

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Release: Kubuntu 18.04
  Version: 0.96.24.32.1

When clicking the "Import Key" button in the "Authentication" section
of the panel it throws this error:

  Traceback (most recent call last):
File
"/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/kde/SoftwarePropertiesKDE.py",
 line 667, in add_key_clicked
  url = KUrl.fromPath(home)
NameError: name 'KUrl' is not defined

While this doesn't crash the program it causes nothing to happen when
clicking the button. Running the program in a terminal reveals the
  error being printed to stderr.

After debugging it appears KUrl doesn't exist anywhere and I'm not
sure if's a python module that has changed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC

2021-02-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
This is a systemd/udev bug. We're aware of the CONTAINER_INTERFACE and
it being wrong doesn't mean we need to change LXD to make it similarly
wrong.

LXD containers need to have udevd running to function properly, so you'll need
to undo that change.
If there is a bug in how udevd now behaves, that's what needs to be fixed and
we can assist you with that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1914875] Re: Use of uninitialized value $ret in string eq at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Passthrough.pm line 134.

2021-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
>From the log, looks like this hit a bug in debconf. Same issue appears
to crop up for other packages (e.g. LP: #1914964).

 Setting up libpam-sss:amd64 (2.3.1-3ubuntu3) ...
Use of uninitialized value $ret in string eq at
/usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Passthrough.pm line 134.

The code in question is:

sub capb
{
my $this=shift;
my $ret;
return $this->{capb} if exists $this->{capb};

($ret, $this->{capb}) = $this->talk('CAPB');
return $this->{capb} if $ret eq '0';
}

So apparently whatever $this->talk('CAPB') resolves to returned an
undefined value for $ret. A paper-over fix might be something like:

return $this->{capb} if defined $ret and $ret eq '0';

However, would be better to know what triggers the error condition since
there could be a deeper problem involved.

Anyway, thanks for reporting this defect in Ubuntu, hopefully there's
enough info for the debconf maintainers to take it from here.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 27520] Re: cron daemon caches user-non-existent lookup results, causing "ORPHAN" message and skipping jobs for all LDAP/NIS-defined users

2021-02-11 Thread Harald Hannelius
I noticed this error on Ubuntu 20.10. Local OpenLDAP, nslcd and a LDAP-
user's cron-jobs aren't run because the log says orphaned.

Bug description:
  == SRU Justification ==

  * Impact: users being defined on remote user databases such as LDAP
will not be able to access to their cron jobs and these will be marked
as orphaned unless cron is restarted. The impact is severe for users
relying on cron and using LDAP.

  * Fix:
The fix was implemented in Fedora's cronie. It implements a list orphan
which allows to describe jobs as being orphaned or not depending on whether the
owner is found or not.

  * Test case:
How to reproduce:
   1. Setup an LDAP remote directory and add a user to test.
   2. Create a crontab for this user with some jobs.
   3. When a reboot happens, this user will have its jobs orphaned.
Expected results:
   - the cron table is read and jobs are to be executed when required.
Actual results:
   - the cron table / jobs are marked as orphaned.

  * Regression potential: very minimal, the fix only adds a list adding
a new description to the jobs, these are described as orphans and are
  checked when necessary.

  * Original bug description:

We had a server which was happily running Hoary. It authenticated to our
AD2003
domain using winbind, and winbind was in the nsswitch.conf. However, after
upgrading to Breezy, cron no longer works properly, in that it doesn't respect
accounts from winbind as being valid accounts. My logs are filling up with
  messages like:

Dec 22 09:52:01 thorin /usr/sbin/cron[28207]: (user1) ORPHAN (no passwd entry)
Dec 22 09:52:01 thorin /usr/sbin/cron[28207]: (user2) ORPHAN (no passwd entry)
Dec 22 09:55:01 thorin /usr/sbin/cron[28207]: (user3) ORPHAN (no passwd entry)
Dec 22 09:55:01 thorin /usr/sbin/cron[28207]: (user4) ORPHAN (no passwd entry)

If you do "id user1", their information shows up perfectly fine, so it seems
like cron has been changed to not respect this source of information.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915471] [NEW] FFe: base-files update MOTD help text formatting

2021-02-11 Thread Chad Smith
Public bug reported:

[Description]
Provide updated messaging text and formatting for MOTD 10-help-text related to
text message organization, layout and verbiage. Minor improvements for cleaner
formatting of messages greeting ssh attaches to a machine.

[Rationale]
MOTD messaging is one of the primary means of communicating to Ubuntu server
customers, we wish to improve the layout and messaging a bit to polish that
experience a little bit for Hirsute and later.

[Timeline]
Current specs are in flight for base-files and update-notifier MOTD changes
expect that we have final usability doc updates there by beginning of March.

[Risks]
Low risk as these changes are text-only formatting and potentially
color-control characters. Potentially errors in any new partsdir files in
/etc/update-motd.d/ are trapped and the offending text or invalid shell logic
is geneally trapped and ignored without affecting other MOTD text

** Affects: base-files (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915307] Re: Please merge sudo 1.9.5p2-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2021-02-11 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Hi, this looks mostly very good! I have some tiny nitpicks:

1) It's good to mention the patches that are being dropped in the changelog
entry.
2) There are some whitespace changes in the bottom of the changelog that you
could drop if you felt like it.

Title:
systemd-resolve crashes fairly often (and reports various assertions)

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
(Tested on regularly updated Ubuntu 20.04, currently i use systemd
  245.4-4ubuntu3.2)

I observe fairly lot of segfaults of systemd-resolve. Frequency vary
  but … see below.

I have no clue what is the reason. Specific feature of my machine is
that apart from normal cable connection (to OpenWRT router) I use
OpenVPN for business network (and this submits specific nameserver for
  myorg.local domain).

  [regression potential]

any regression would likely cause add-apt-repository to incorrectly

  [scope]

this is needed in g and later

the --enable-source parameter in focal and earlier could only be used

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871959] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in _iris_batch_flush from iris_fence_flush()

2021-02-11 Thread paquin pierre
Hello,

This is why you have no report from kernel 5.8+ :
"The supported kernel version range is from 4.15 to 5.5, minimum supported Xorg
version is 1.16 and minimum supported Mutter (Wayland) is 3.32."

https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/684649

Some people seems to have kernel 5.9 working, but I tried without success,
still have the above message. Here's an entry on DisplayLink forum with the
same problem :
https://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67561

I can't create an account on this forum, don't know why... The mail with
code never arrive. If anyone has my problem, he can reply on displaylink
forum to get help with kernel 5.8+

Here's a tuto for kernel 5.9, don't work for me, but seemed to help sometimes :

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871959] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in _iris_batch_flush from iris_fence_flush()

2021-02-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sorry to hear that. To remove the 5.8 kernel packages, first run this
command to find their names:

  dpkg -l | grep 5.8.0 | grep linux | awk '{print $2;}'

Then you can remove them with:

  sudo dpkg -P PACKAGENAMES

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871959] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in _iris_batch_flush from iris_fence_flush()

2021-02-11 Thread paquin pierre
Hi, thanks,

can't I just do a sudo apt purge linux-generic-hwe-20.04 ?

For now, i'll keep the choice to boot on kernel 5.8 or 5.4. About the
subject you opened on
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/4275 it seems to have
some news. That's very technical, can you put here informations when you
have a piece of solution ?

Many thanks
