Title:
Single background colour and colour-gradient options are missing after
  upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04

Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The options for selecting a single colour background, or, a colour gradient
background, are missing in the settings, after upgrading from 18.04LTS to
20.04LTS. The upgrade was done according to this guide:
https://www.linuxtechi.com/upgrade-ubuntu-18-04-lts-to-ubuntu-20-04-lts/
Also tried to make a clean install of 20.04LTS on a virtual machine, with the
same result, those functions are missing.
  Kind regards
  Anton

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879131] [NEW] Relax the dependency of gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons from Depends to Recommends

2020-05-17 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

I would like to be able to remove the gnome-shell-extension-desktop-
icons without removing ubuntu-desktop.

GNOME shell extensions are sometimes buggy, in this case desktop-icons,
and I consider the desktop-icons extension an enhancement to the
desktop, not a necessity, because no other functionality or packages
depend on its behaviour, and there is no loss of data or breakage of
another functionality after removing it.

So changing the dependency to a Recommends would allow the extension to
be installed by default and be removed without removing ubuntu-desktop.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879144] [NEW] Volume output settings reset on analog surround 4.0

2020-05-17 Thread William CHan
Public bug reported:

It seems to be a pulseaudio issue but unsure if it is a settings error.

Version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS / 20.04
Computer Model: HP Envy x360 13 with AMD Ryzen 3500U
PulseAudio version: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.2

Problem Description:
When manually reduce volume, Balance and Fade level resets when such reduction
reaches 0 audio output.

This is not the case when I manually mute the audio output (or with a
mute switch)

Intended Outcome:
There should not be any reset at all.

Other information:
It seems to be a problem with pulseaudio. However, I cannot confirm if it is a
bug from the pulseaudio side or the Ubuntu settings side.

Intended outcome: It should work the same: turning the volume to 0
should not reset the fade settings nor the balance settings.

Check the screencast below for what is going on (youtube link)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1850966] Re: Stuck at "Refreshing software cache" after enabling repository not updated for Eoan

2020-05-17 Thread pateksan
In my case, I was following these steps:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/60613072/8957293
This lead to a message about an internal error, with a prompt to send details
to developers, and it got stuck once I pressed send. I didn't record exactly
what package was the issue, but gtk was included in the name.
Not much experience reporting bugs on linux - please let me know if more detail
is needed.

Stuck at "Refreshing software cache" after enabling repository not
  updated for Eoan

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open Software and Updates
  2. Go to "other software" and enable, for example, a repository disabled
during upgrade to Eoan which is not updated for Eoan yet
  3. Press close and then reload on the dialog that opens.
  4. Refreshing software cache dialog is stuck

After closing the dialogs by right clicking on the windows and the
open apps bar, re opening Software and updates only shows a white
  square you can't interact with.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879154] [NEW] stack-size option ignored by g++-9

2020-05-17 Thread Paul Jurczak
Public bug reported:

I was encouraged to repost my stackoverflow question here
(https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61709726). In case stack-size
option is not implemented for this particular environment, a warning
would be helpful.

-

I'm building a test program with g++ 9.3.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 x64 using
this linker command:

/usr/bin/g++-9  -O3 -DNDEBUG  -Wl,-z,stack-size=268435456
CMakeFiles/af.dir/main.cpp.o -o af

I'm testing increased stack requirements with this function:

float f() {
  float a[3'000'000];
  return a[42];
}

and results indicate a standard 8MB stack regardless of the stack-size
linker option value. What is the way to increase the stack size?

EDIT

The test is as follows:

float a[3'000'000]; causes Segmentation fault (core dumped)
float a[2'000'000]; returns 0 as expected

** Affects: binutils (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1764044] Re: ssh-add asks about passphrases for keys already unlocked in the keychain

2020-05-17 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I finally was able to solve this. It turns out, my key was too old and
thus kind of disabled as a security measure, I suppose. After creating a
new key based off ED25519 and adding the corresponding public key to
~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server, things are now working again.

Can we please do better and inform the user what's wrong instead of
silently pretending to be working but dropping the unlocked key? FWIW,
even now with the process working again "keychain -l" still lists
nothing. I'm not 100% sure but that looks like a bug of its own.

Bug description:
  [impact]

A bridged interface with static ipv4 address and gateway configuration
will fail to properly add the route via the gateway, leaving the
system without a globally working network.

  [test case]

On a Focal system, remove all network configuration and create this
  netplan:

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    bridges:
  br0:
    interfaces: [enp4s0]
    dhcp4: no
    addresses: [192.168.0.4/24]
    gateway4: 192.168.0.1
    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

Replace the interface name 'enp4s0' with the actual interface name on
  the test system.

Reboot the system, and check the route to the gateway, which will be
  missing:

  root@lp1860926-f:~# ip r
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4

The route is expected to be present, e.g.:

  ubuntu@lp1860926-e:~$ ip r
default via 192.168.0.1 dev br0 proto static
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4

  [test case, pre-focal]

same netplan as above, but remove ethernets: section. Reboot, and the
bridge should have its address and route:

  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet 192.168.0.4/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global br0
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip r
default via 192.168.0.1 dev br0 proto static linkdown
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4 linkdown

add and remove carrier, by adding and removing a slave interface:

ubuntu@test-e:~$ sudo ip l set dev ens3 master br0 up
  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet 192.168.0.4/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global br0
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 fe80::5411:daff:fe23:bb93/64 scope link
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
ubuntu@test-e:~$ sudo ip l set dev ens3 nomaster

the bridge no longer has its address after losing carrier:

  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet6 fe80::5411:daff:fe23:bb93/64 scope link
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

  [regression potential]

Any regression would likely involve incorrectly configured network
  after an interface carrier gain/loss.

  [scope]

This is needed for Focal, Eoan, and Bionic.

While this only reproduces at boot for Focal, the general loss of
configuration on carrier loss even when ConfigureWithoutCarrier=true
is reproducable on all releases except Xenial, which does not have the
  ConfigureWithoutCarrier= parameter.

  [original description]

Freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04 fully patched to days date with static
IP address works fine and survives a reboot

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    addresses: [192.168.0.4/24]
    gateway4: 192.168.0.1
    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

however when converted to a bridged network for kvm

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    bridges:
  br0:
    interfaces: [enp4s0]
    dhcp4: no
    addresses: [192.168.0.4/24]
    gateway4: 192.168.0.1
    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

will not survive a reboot and required systemd-network to be restarted or
  @reboot /usr/sbin/netplan apply
  added to the crontab

after a reboot the network can not b eaccseed and a
  systemctl status systemd-networkd produces

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1868456] Re: "sudo: setrlimit(RLIMIT_CORE): Operation not permitted" error when using sudo in 20.04 LXD container

2020-05-17 Thread Jan-Otto Kröpke
There is a upstream issue: https://github.com/sudo-
project/sudo/issues/42

A fixed versions is released, maybe it can be backported to ubuntu.

Bug description:
I fired up a LXD container using ubuntu-daily:f on my machine and
every time I issue a comment inside the container using sudo, I get
  this error:

  sudo: setrlimit(RLIMIT_CORE): Operation not permitted

I did some digging online and found this was reported against Fedora last
fall which lead me to this bugzilla report:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1773148

which seems to tie this to a change in sudo between 1.8.28 and 1.8.29.

  Focal has 1.8.31:
  bladernr@focal-builder:~/development/kernels-ubuntu/focal$ apt-cache policy
sudo
  sudo:
    Installed: 1.8.31-1ubuntu1

   *** 1.8.31-1ubuntu1 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

This is not an issue on Bionic:
  bladernr@galactica:~/development/kernels-upstream/mainline$ apt-cache policy
sudo
  sudo:
    Installed: 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2
    Candidate: 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2

   1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

From the redhat bug, the described workaround does clear these
  messages up:

  # set disable_coredump false

Once I've done that, the error messages go away.

Bug description:
  [impact]

A bridged interface with static ipv4 address and gateway configuration
will fail to properly add the route via the gateway, leaving the
system without a globally working network.

  [test case]

On a Focal system, remove all network configuration and create this
  netplan:

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    bridges:
  br0:
    interfaces: [enp4s0]
    dhcp4: no
    addresses: [192.168.0.4/24]
    gateway4: 192.168.0.1
    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

Replace the interface name 'enp4s0' with the actual interface name on
  the test system.

Reboot the system, and check the route to the gateway, which will be
  missing:

  root@lp1860926-f:~# ip r
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4

The route is expected to be present, e.g.:

  ubuntu@lp1860926-e:~$ ip r
default via 192.168.0.1 dev br0 proto static
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4

  [test case, pre-focal]

same netplan as above, but remove ethernets: section. Reboot, and the
bridge should have its address and route:

  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet 192.168.0.4/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global br0
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip r
default via 192.168.0.1 dev br0 proto static linkdown
192.168.0.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.4 linkdown

add and remove carrier, by adding and removing a slave interface:

ubuntu@test-e:~$ sudo ip l set dev ens3 master br0 up
  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet 192.168.0.4/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global br0
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 fe80::5411:daff:fe23:bb93/64 scope link
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
ubuntu@test-e:~$ sudo ip l set dev ens3 nomaster

the bridge no longer has its address after losing carrier:

  ubuntu@test-e:~$ ip a show br0
3: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 56:11:da:23:bb:93 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet6 fe80::5411:daff:fe23:bb93/64 scope link
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

  [regression potential]

Any regression would likely involve incorrectly configured network
  after an interface carrier gain/loss.

  [scope]

This is needed for Focal, Eoan, and Bionic.

While this only reproduces at boot for Focal, the general loss of
configuration on carrier loss even when ConfigureWithoutCarrier=true
is reproducable on all releases except Xenial, which does not have the
  ConfigureWithoutCarrier= parameter.

  [original description]

Freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04 fully patched to days date with static
IP address works fine and survives a reboot

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    addresses: [192.168.0.4/24]

    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

however when converted to a bridged network for kvm

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  enp4s0:
    dhcp4: false
    bridges:

    nameservers:
  search: [mydomain]
  addresses: [192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2,192.168.0.3]

will not survive a reboot and required systemd-network to be restarted or
  @reboot /usr/sbin/netplan apply
  added to the crontab

after a reboot the network can not b eaccseed and a

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1551623] Re: [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

Title:
  [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade:
dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

Status in gconf package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  [Impact]

During system upgrades, triggers for gconf2 might activate too early,
while some of its dependencies aren't configured yet. This happens
several times in a loop and stops the upgrade in the end.

The attached debdiffs fix this issue by changing interest to interest-
noawait in debian/gconf2.triggers file. The triggers will now activate
  near the end of upgrade.

In addition, the debdiff for Bionic also contains a fix for FTBFS (bug
  1834211).

  [Test Case]

Triggers for gconf2 are usually activated on changes in
/usr/share/GConf/gsettings folder, so the main Ubuntu edition (with
GNOME) is most suitable for reproducing the issue. To reproduce it,
install that edition, apply all updates, then try upgrading to the
  next release.

  [Regression Potential]

None, interest-noawait trigger is known to work well in other packages
  (comment 31).

  [Other Info]

Even if Cosmic goes EOL next month, the fix for it might be worth it
  for release upgrades.

  [Original Description]

When upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04Beta (2016-03-01), this error occured,
alongside many others related to systemd and gnome.
Notice that despite all warnings and errors, finally, the system remained
functional.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878723] Re: Kernel panic when used with upstart after 0.11-4ubuntu2.1 update

2020-05-17 Thread iGadget
So if I'm on 20.04, not running Upstart and not experiencing kernel
panics, why would I want to install this 'update', re-introducing known
security issues? Why is it even pushed to systems running 20.04 without
Upstart?

Downgrading to libjson-c2_0.11-4ubuntu2 resolves the issue.

  Steps to reproduce:
  * Create a system with Xenial installed (I'm using an AWS instance with AMI
ami-0f2ed58082cb08a4d)
  * Install upstart: apt-get install upstart-sysv
  * Reboot
  * Update apt and upgrade the packages: apt-get update && apt-get upgrade .
This causes the kernel panic.
  * To repeat the kernel panic, run dpkg --configure -a

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1553669] Re: Annoying "call from" message when connecting Bose devices

2020-05-17 Thread M M
I've had this issue since 16.04. How is it that we've gone through 3 LTS
releases without a fix? What is the technical challenge with getting a
Bluetooth LE headset paired for use as a headset? What is going on?

Bug description:
I have a bluetooth Bose OE SoundLink working on Kubuntu 15.10 but each
time I initially connect to listen to an audio or video, I hear an
annoying "Call from" on my headset. My headset seems to think a
connection to a phone call is taking place. This is annoying because
the audio will start to play and after a little while the "call from"
  voice talks over the audio.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1829401] Re: gi.repository.GLib.GError: pk-client-error-quark: could not do untrusted question as no klass support

2020-05-17 Thread Fritz Hudnut
Adding my story here . . . in U-MATE running sources.list as "devel" and
some of the list is ID-ing as "groovy" . . . it is showing as 20.10 . .
. had some issues with the broadcom package not updating in apt, so on
the U-MATE forum with wolfman and he had me look at my "Software &
Updates" data, and while just looking at the items in "edit," and even
though I changed nothing I got the same scenario as norbert in #3 post .
. . where the "cache refresh" window opens, progress bar fills . . . but
then window doesn't close--this time the crash report window opened.

I believe this happened previously and I might have FQd in the GUI . . .
. I sent the crash report and it auto-loaded the dup bug report
#1832057 . . . which linked me here.

  Description: encrypted bandwidth-efficient backup
Duplicity backs directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes
and uploading them to a remote or local file server. Because duplicity
uses librsync, the incremental archives are space efficient and only
record the parts of files that have changed since the last backup.
Because duplicity uses GnuPG to encrypt and/or sign these archives, they
will be safe from spying and/or modification by the server.

In another partition that I keep for testing, I had made a clean
installation of 20.04 and after installing hplip the same printer works
without problems.

Title:
Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape
and a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of
Ubuntu (definitely in 19.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this
using Display Settings in the default windowing environment.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 it seems Display Settings is computing
an incorrect horizontal resolution for the combined display. This
results in a display that is too wide for the monitors that pans when
  I mouse toward the edges.

xrandr is reporting that it's trying to make a display that is
  3840x1440 (2560+1280) instead of 3584x1440 (2560+1024), so I assume
something is doing the math before considering the smaller display is
  in portrait instead of landscape.

here is the output from xrandr:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879209] [NEW] Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly

2020-05-17 Thread Chris Anderson
Public bug reported:

I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape and
a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of Ubuntu
(definitely in 19.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this using
Display Settings in the default windowing environment.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 it seems Display Settings is computing
an incorrect horizontal resolution for the combined display. This
results in a display that is too wide for the monitors that pans when I
mouse toward the edges.

xrandr is reporting that it's trying to make a display that is 3840x1440
(2560+1280) instead of 3584x1440 (2560+1024), so I assume something is
doing the math before considering the smaller display is in portrait
instead of landscape.

here is the output from xrandr:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1867421] Re: Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse moves way too fast

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The recommended way for doing that is changing the mouse speed in your
control panel/settings/whatever GUI.

For example, in Ubuntu 20.04 it is:

Settings > Mouse & Touchpad > Mouse > Mouse Speed

Another option you might like is:

  gnome-tweaks > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse > Acceleration Profile = Flat

Bug description:
  [impact]

Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse moves way too fast to be usable.

  [test case]

on a bionic system, connect affected mouse and attempt to move
pointer, note it moves too fast.

  [regression potential]

as this adds a hwdb entry for a mouse using vendor/product id and name
matching, any regression would likely involve incorrectly setting dpi
on a different mouse than intended.

  [scope]

  fixed by upstream commit 26d7cf3daf08b279bdd2e484936268e1e88648d4
which is included starting in v240, so this is already fixed in Eoan
  and later.

This is needed only for Xenial and Bionic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1553669] Re: Annoying "call from" message when connecting Bose devices

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As suggested in comment #8, please try disabling voice prompts. That
seems to work on a variety of Bose devices:

  https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/disabling-voice-prompts-
soundlink-mini-ii.html

If you would like to discuss the problem further then it would probably
be best to report it to the developers here:

  PulseAudio: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/groups/pulseaudio/-/issues

Bug description:
Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all
other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS).

Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many
others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding.
As it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP
headsets using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at
  this time.

The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue -
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048

Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it
appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they
have developed their own audio server solution etc.

The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in
  May 2011 -
  https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193

Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel
  and PulseAudio:

  PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/
  Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html

It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch:

https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/77dd0cb94c1713a8a12f6e392955dfa64c430e54

Title:
Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape
and a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of
Ubuntu (definitely in 18.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this
using Display Settings in the default windowing environment.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878953] Re: Display settings is lost when switching between modes with Super+P

I think this is expected. I think Gnome Shell only remembers one
configuration per set of attached monitors. But intuitively yes that's
annoying if you're only tapping Super+P.
