[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791484] [NEW] [FFe] Update tracker and tracker-miners to 2.1.4

2018-09-09 Thread Tim Lunn
Public bug reported:

To go along with the rest of GNOME 3.30
Both tracker and tracker-miners 2.1.4 will be synced from Debian.

tracker is not installed by default on any Ubuntu Flavours, but does
provide an important part of the GNOME-Shell experience.

These releases bring lots of fixes and a few new features.

Tracker NEW in 2.1.4 - 2018-09-04
=

  * Fix build with format-security flag

Translations: da, hr, lv

NEW in 2.1.3 - 2018-08-30
=

  * Fix resource refcounting issues in database. Reset is advised.
  * Drop cardinality from nie:copyright, nie:license, nie:legal and dc:rights
  * Fix superfluous ontology checks on second tracker-store run
  * Use more SPARQL1.1 correct syntax.
  * Allow use of domain rules outside prefix
  * Compatibility fixes with C++

Translations: gl, id, ko

NEW in 2.1.2 - 2018-08-15
=

  * libtracker-sparql: Delete TrackerResource elements one by one
  * libtracker-sparql: Fix compilation with C++
  * build: Fixes for FreeBSD
  * build: Fixes on meson

Translations: cs, el, fr, fur, hu, sl, tr, zh_TW

NEW in 2.1.1 - 2018-08-01

connection for queries.

Translations: es, lt, ro

NEW in 2.1.0 - 2018-07.22
=

  * Brown paper bag release
  * All features from unreleased 2.0.5 apply
  * One feature was missed: TrackerResource is now able to output
JSON-LD. This is a new API call, so a minor bump should happen
as per Semantic Versioning.

  From 2.0.5 NEWS:
  * build: Make tarballs able to build with meson. Future releases will
eventually phase out Autotools
  * build: Various meson build fixes
  * tests: Many fixes to functional tests
  * libtracker-miner: Fixed race conditions that may result in spurious
"parent not indexed yet" warnings.
  * libtracker-direct: Majorly rewritten
  * tracker-store: Streamlined to use a libtracker-direct connection
instead of reimplementing most of it.

Tracker-miners NEW in 2.1.4 - 2018-09-04
=

Translations: da, hr, lv

NEW in 2.1.3 - 2018-08-30
=

  * Unbreak watch on domain ontology owner. Fixes miners spuriously
exiting.

NEW in 2.1.2 - 2018-08-30
=

  * Allow use of domain rules outside prefix
  * Add core-as-subproject as explicit meson option
  * Ensure utf8ness in TrackerResource helpers

=

  * tests: Many updates and fixes to functional tests
  * tracker-extract: Better infrastructure for tests, based on JSON-LD
  * tracker-miner-fs: Restart tracker extract from the right domain
  * tracker-extract: Persistently avoid files that trigger recoverable
errors, to avoid log spamming on restarts.

Automatic logout when resuming from suspend on Xubuntu 18.04

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When my Xubuntu 18.04 laptop resumes from suspend, systemd-logind
automatically logs out of the current session if the laptop has stayed
suspended for more than a couple of hours. If the interval between
suspend and resume is short, it doesn't log out. I still haven't
discovered how long this interval has to be in order to cause the
  logout.

I enabled debug on the systemd-logind.service, creating file
  _/etc/systemd/system/systemd-logind.service.d/10-debug.conf_:

  [Service]
  Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

which causes systemd-logind to log all D-Bus messages it handles, but
couldn't spot anything that might have caused the logout.

I scanned all systemd journal messages (`journalctl`) before systemd-
logind starts killing the current session, investigated all that
looked suspicious but couldn't find anything that might influence an
automatic logout. Here are some of the messages that striked me as
suspicious (they are not sequential, but pulled from different
  occasions):

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1776622] Re: snapd on cosmic never finishes installing/updating. Can't install any other updates.

2018-09-09 Thread Alex
This happend to me repeatedly on Ubuntu Bionic too, making snaps
uninstallable. How can such bugs come through. They can be easily
catched with automated tests. I remember this bug happened to me after a
fresh Ubuntu Bionic installation. An now again after updating snap.
Please automate your tests!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573982] Re: LVM boot problem - volumes not activated after upgrade to Xenial

2018-09-09 Thread Steve Dodd
Confused to see no movement on this bug?

The logical thing seemed to be add another case to /usr/share/initramfs-
tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 calling lvchange_activate with no
parameters, but it seems that doesn't work - does
activation/auto_activation_volume_list need to be set in lvm.conf
perhaps?

I decided giving an explicit root=/dev/vg/lv on the command line was
probably more transparent than burying a setting in lvm.conf anyway.

LVM boot problem - volumes not activated after upgrade to Xenial

Status in curtin:

Status in MAAS:

Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Soon after upgrade to Xenial (from 15.10) the boot process got broken.
I'm using LVM for /root swap and other partitions.

  ===
  The current behaviour is:

When I boot short after the Grub login screen I'm getting log messages
  like:

  ---
  Scanning for Btrfs filesystems
resume: Could not state the resume device file: '/dev/mapper/VolGroup'
Please type in the full path...
  ---

Then I press ENTER, for a few minutes some errors about floppy device
access are raised (for some reason it tries to scan fd0 when floppy
  drive is empty). And then:

  ---
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: ...
  ...
  ALERT! UUID=xxx-xxx does not exist.
  Dropping to a shell.
  ---

From the BusyBox shell I managed to recover the boot by issuing "lvm
vgchange -ay", then exit and then boot continues fine (all LVM file
  systems are successfully mounted).

  ===
One workaround so far is creating
/etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2-manual script doing "lvm vgchange
-ay". But I'm looking for cleaner solution.

Boot used to work fine with 15.10. Actually the first boot after
upgrading to Xenial actually worked OK too, I'm not sure what might
changed meanwhile (I've been fixing some packages installation since
  mysql server upgrade has failed).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2018-09-09 Thread Christian Zettel
I have installed a fresh system (Ubuntu 18.04, with LVM) on a virtual
machine and this machine is also affected.

I have updated the initramfs-tools to version: 0.130ubuntu3.3 but this
doesnt solve the issue.

Other things i have done without success:

1.) Delete resume file:
> rm /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
> sudo update-initramfs -u

2.) Change resume file:
> vim /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
RESUME=none
> sudo update-initramfs -u

3.) Another change to the resume file:
> vim /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
RESUME=auto
> sudo update-initramfs -u

Title:
Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to
  device scanning.

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
A regression in initramfs-tools causes it to autogenerate config in the
initramfs saying to resume from any available swap devices, but references the
swap device by UUID, which is not a canonical form for referring to LVM volumes
(because of snapshotting, they are not unique). Ubiquity also generates a file
in /etc at install time which references the swap partition in the same way.
Since the lvm2 initramfs hooks also only activate precisely those LVs that are
detected as needed at boot, this adds an inappropriate 30-second boot delay to
any system with swap on LVM, which includes any desktop system that was
configured with LVM (but not full-disk encryption) at install time.

  [Test case]
  1. Install using the "Use LVM" option in the desktop installer.
  4. Reboot.
  5. Verify that dmesg shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root
filesystem.
  6. Install initramfs-tools from bionic-proposed.
  7. Reboot.
  8. Verify that dmesg no longer shows a 30-second delay before mounting the
root filesystem.
  9. Install using the bionic daily image that contains the ubiquity from
bionic-proposed.
  10. Reboot.
  11. Verify that /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume is not present and that
there is no delay before mounting the root filesystem.

  [Regression potential]
This makes changes to shell scripts, and shell is a perilous language. An
unnoticed bug could cause all initramfs generation, and thus all kernel
installation, to fail for some users. A regression could also cause a user to
lose hiberation support that they currently have.

  [Original description]
After choosing "Erase disk and install ubuntu" + "Use LVM with the new Ubuntu
installation", the
system is very slow to reboot.

It shows the message : "WARNING:Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to
device scanning.",
then waits 32 seconds, then continues as it should.

I think this is a ubiquity bug, since the d-i based installer is not affected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791514] [NEW] lightdm cannot be started manually when it's not default DM

2018-09-09 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c [ "$(basename $(cat /etc/X11/default-display-
manager 2>/dev/null))" = "lightdm" ] (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Why would you need such a check? It was just fine starting DMs manually
previously without making them default.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, I also checked ubuntu source but
there's really no sign of the driver having ever landed farther than the
majestic tree by Heiko
https://github.com/heikomat/linux/tree/cx2072x
(in the Asus-E200HA specific repo in fact, they mention xubuntu 18.04 still
require patching and all)

The 808622A8 id you reported above is the just the Intel "Smart Sound
Technology" device.
But the actual audio codec is another thing. In fact windows driver pack just
has an AudioRealtek folder.

Nothing to do with this issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786617] Re: setupterm doesn't find terminfo entry in non-standard database location

2018-09-09 Thread Thomas Dickey
either way: not a bug in ncurses

Title:
setupterm doesn't find terminfo entry in non-standard database
  location

Status in ncurses package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
My terminal emulator (Kitty) installs its terminfo entry to:

  /usr/local/lib/kitty/terminfo/x/xterm-kitty

But it also registers /usr/local/lib/kitty/terminfo/ as a terminfo
  database:

  % infocmp -D
  /usr/local/lib/kitty/terminfo
  /etc/terminfo
  /lib/terminfo
  /usr/share/terminfo

I use tmux, which uses setupterm:
  https://github.com/tmux/tmux/blob/b2a2c3a1e90756313b6709905f189934123f85ed
  /tty-term.c#L412

setupterm sets an error code unless I symlink the terminfo def to a
  traditional location:

  sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib/kitty/terminfo/x/xterm-kitty
  /usr/share/terminfo/x/xterm-kitty

This stops the problem. setupterm is presumably not searching all
  database locations.

I am not the developer of tmux, he directed me here to log the issue.

See https://github.com/tmux/tmux/issues/1433 for the original bug
  report.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1705067] Re: system-local terminfo does not search /usr/share/terminfo as README says

Title:

  says

Status in ncurses package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  $ lsb_release -rd

  Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
  Release:16.04

  The file /etc/terminfo/README says

This directory is for system-local terminfo descriptions. By default,
ncurses will search ${HOME}/.terminfo first, then /etc/terminfo (this
directory), then /lib/terminfo, and last not least /usr/share/terminfo.

but it seems that /usr/share/terminfo is not used or does not work as
  expected?

  Repro:

  1) Install `stterm`

  2) Start `stterm`

  3) Type `clear`

  Result:

  terminals database is inaccessible

  Expected result:

  Screen is cleared

  Workaround:

Symlink the terminfo database to a user-local ~/.terminfo

  mkdir -p ~/.terminfo/s && ln -sf /usr/share/terminfo/s/stterm*
  ~/.terminfo/s

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1563110]

2018-09-09 Thread js
See comment #73. FWIW I pinged someone at Conexant one year ago,
the answer was essentially "no time, but soon". I guess it will
never happen. IMHO Takeshi should just submit his version even if it
has minor issues.

Well, that explains the pitiful situation. Let's see if CCing the
conexant author solves anything.

It did actually improve something on their own repo.. Not sure why he never got
back

Some programs can not find shared libraries.
All you need to do is reinstall those packages and libraries that the program
can not find.

I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on the cleaned partition.
Strange problems.
I reinstalled the programs and "missing" libraries.
Programs:
Virtualbox, smplayer, vlc, grub-customizer, gparted.

everything works now :)

2018-09-09 Thread Ilya Sheershoff
Have same RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller and
r8169 driver.

$ lspci -knn | grep Eth -A3
01:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [10ec:8168] (rev 15)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [1462:7b33]
Kernel driver in use: r8169
Kernel modules: r8169

See the difference in controller and driver?

I'm online for an hour since:

try connecting via wifi and
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install r8168-dkms
 - to install the r8168 kernel driver (suppressing the r8169 driver that came
default with the kernel)
3. Reboot the PC
4. Enroll the MOK

Title:
Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Internet drops every 1-30 minutes when connected via wired or wireless
(i.e., this is a problem on both wired and wireless) even though
connection icon indicates the computer is still connected.

Disconnecting and reconnecting via the connection icon resets internet
  temporarily until the next time.

Dropped internet is discovered with "The site can't be reached"
screens in Chromium, or error messages when downloading/updating in
Terminal, or missing connection in Ubuntu Software app, or stalled
syncing in Insync application (occurred even without Insync).

Internet drops more frequently on wireless than on wired.

It seems to disconnect more frequently with heavier internet use
(e.g., downloading multiple files, opening several webpages in quick
  succession).

This is a fresh install (yesterday) of Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron
15 5567 (dual boot). It occurs when running Live CD as well though.

Ethernet and wifi both work without randomly disconnecting in Windows
10 on the same machine, and ethernet and wifi work on other machines
running Ubuntu and Windows with the same router, so it is not a
  hardware or router issue.

Output from sudo lshw -class network

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1765304] Re: Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by lowering & raising window whenever they're focused)

2018-09-09 Thread George
@alexmurray: I am not sure, but I think that using gnome-shell from your
PPA introduced a bug with icons disappearing from the Gnome top panel
right-side icon set, specifically, the keyboard layout
indicator/switcher.

For now, I have removed the PPA, reverted the gnome-shell version, and I
am using the XIM input method as a workaround for this bug. The
disappearing icon issue seems to have been resolved.

Title:
Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by
lowering & raising window whenever they're focused)

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
tl;dr: starting in Ubuntu 18.04, "ibus" seems to lower and raise
Firefox, whenever the user tries to focus an
field on a web page. This is not a regression in Firefox, as the same
Firefox version runs just fine in Ubuntu 17.10 -- it seems to be a bug
in ibus, because it only happens (in 18.04) when the environmental
variable GTK_IM_MODULE is at its default value (which is "ibus"). It
had this same value in 17.10 but the bug didn't happen there; hence,
I'm guessing there was a change in ibus (or a related package) that
  caused this breakage / lowering+raising.

This is pretty bad, because in some cases, the focus-loss can mean users are
simply unable to fill in password fields that previously were working fine.
(see "ACTUAL RESULTS" below)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE #1, via "BitWarden" Firefox extension:
  =
   1. Start Firefox. (fresh profile if you like)
   2. Install BitWarden from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bitwarden-password-manager/
   3. Click the BitWarden toolbar icon to spawn a menu-pane.
   4. Click "Log in" at the bottom of that pane.
   5. Click the "Master Password" field.

  ACTUAL RESULTS:
The menu pane disappears as soon as the Master Password field receives focus.
  EXPECTED RESULTS:
I should be able to type in a password; pane shouldn't disappear.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE #2, via Reddit:
  =
   1. Visit https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/ (or any reddit page)
   2. Click "Log in or sign up in seconds" at the extreme upper right of the
page.
(click the "Log in" part of that sentence)
   3. Try to click the password field (or "tab" into it) and type in some text.

  ACTUAL RESULTS:
Try as you might, the password field never receives focus.
  EXPECTED RESULTS:
Password field should accept focus & let me type text into it.

If I run firefox from the command line with env var GTK_IM_MODULE="",
then I get "expected results". But with the default value of that env
var, I get "actual results" (broken behavior, unable to enter
  passwords).

I initially reported this in Firefox, here:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1451466 (with a few
dependent bugs for the usage-specific STR quoted above). But I think
it's a bug in ibus, hence filing here now.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1767468] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04, then uninstalling unity disables hardware acceleration

2018-09-09 Thread Ben Ward
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1768610 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768610

I had these exact same symptoms today with my nVidia GTX 960 after doing
a platform upgrade from 17.10 to 18.04.

Issue was actually dead simple to fix, the upgrade to 18.04 removed some
PPAs (including the graphics drivers), so although the nVidia driver
package was present on the system it wasn't getting updates and the
system appears to have selected a software only driver to use instead.
All I did was uninstall nvidia-390 using apt, re-added the ppa, apt-get
updated, then reinstalled nvidia-390 again using apt. Fixed it fine for
me.

###
sudo apt-get autoremove nvidia-390
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-390
###

hope this is useful :)

Bug description:
After upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 on a very plain Intel Skylake

It is caused by the file
  /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50_check_unity_support
which can be deleted and then this problem goes away.

Apparently the problem is that nux-tools is not purged, leaving the
  above file (also see #1768610).

The laptop sound works perfectly fine in Windows 10 with realtek
drivers. However, in Ubuntu 17.10, the volume is significantly low,
that I've to scroll the volume slider above 100% mark in pulseaudio to
the maximum to get acceptable level of sound. I suspect the sound
quality also is low (mono-like), may be not coming from all speakers
(perhaps subwoofer exist for this model). Also alsamixer shows the
  speaker volume at the maximum.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1789502] Re: Update to 0.6.50

2018-09-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thought I'd show a sign of life.

@Robert: Since you asked about the FormatsLocale patch, I'd like to
mention that it's necessary for 0010-set-language.patch. Actually we
tried to upstream it years ago:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/accountsservice/issues/22

Unfortunately I have still not access to a working updated Cosmic
install. The 2018-08-22 ISO works on my machine, but when I upgrade,
most network connections are lost at next reboot. I can run commands
like ping() and host(), but not apt(), and Firefox does not find
anything. Just tried with the 2018-09-08 ISO, but it didn't help. Will
seek support tomorrow. (Any hints about possible causes would be
appreciated, of course.)

2018-09-09 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Public bug reported:

Upon installing libssl:i386 on Ubuntu LTS 18.04.1 Desktop, I am advised
that I need to perform a reboot.

I see a single process in my system using a no-longer-existing copy of
libssl.so.1.0.0, but I can easily restart that process.

Even if this were Server, I could easily just restart the sshd process,
from its console if necessary.

** Affects: openssl (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791289] Re: Shows duplicate xdg directories for snaps

2018-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If those symlinks exist then gnome-shell is doing the right thing by
reporting as many relevant results as possible.

If you would like the behaviour changed then please describe in detail
how it should change.

Please also run 'apport-collect 1791289' to send more relevant system
information.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791398] Re: low resolution on my screen [nouveau]

2018-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears your monitor is not telling the kernel what resolutions it
supports. This might be a bug in the monitor's firmware, or it might
just be a bad connection. Please try unplugging and replugging the
monitor to the machine. Please also try a different VGA cable. Make sure
it is plugged in securely.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791386] Re: As You see the report.

2018-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791518] Re: don't start the system

2018-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2018-09-09 Thread WeeHong Yeo
Hi, I am running Lubuntu 18.04 with LVM as a VM in VirtualBox 5.2.18
r124319.

I encountered the above problem and I triedusing guillermo suggestion of

1. editing /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume to RESUME=none
2. regenerating initramfs with sudo update-initramfs -u

and it seems to fix it for me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-09-09 Thread Chorca
Having what I believe is the same issue. Internal Intel HDA audio is
distorted at normal maximum volume on Xubuntu, at 100% and not above.
Seems to be distorted at lower volume levels as well. System sounds are
distorted as well as sounds from media applications. This is recent to
me as it seems to have been working fine less than a month ago.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1791157] Re: can't run apt commands because apport/python are corrupt

2018-09-09 Thread tom
Tried exporting $PYTHONHOME to a couple different ideas, my $PATH looks
good. I have no ideas. Every other related bug's remedy does nothing.
Gonna reinstall with 18.10 out of frustration if nobody comments
tomorrow (Monday).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1776622] Re: snapd on cosmic never finishes installing/updating. Can't install any other updates.

2018-09-09 Thread Michael Vogt
Hey Alex first, sorry for the trouble you have! We do run ~2800 tests
which each branch merged or release. This includes an automatic upgrade
test. Unfortunately the hang is not reproducible for everyone it seems,
neither our automatic tests nor I in a VM have managed to trigger this
hang. But we are very keen to learn what is missing to reproduce this
issue. Is there anything special on the systems you experience this
issue (unusual polkit configuration or special integration with pam or
similar).

Bug description:
snapd (2.33+18.10ubuntu3) cosmic never finishes installing. Can't
  install any other updates.

The first time I gave up waiting and killed it. Then...

  $ sudo apt full-upgrade
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.

  $ sudo dpkg --configure -a
  Setting up snapd (2.33+18.10ubuntu3) ...
snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.

  << never ends >>

All the while the snap and snapd process use about 0.3% CPU (which is
  more than usual).

  WORKAROUND:

  sudo killall apt dpkg
  sudo dpkg -r snapd gnome-software-plugin-snap
  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1776622] Re: snapd on cosmic never finishes installing/updating. Can't install any other updates.

2018-09-09 Thread Michael Vogt
What we see in the ps output is that for some reason it seems like
systemctl prompts for a password. Which is unusual because apt/dpkg runs
as root so there should be no need for this. Any further hints for us?
Are these desktop or server installs?
