[Touch-packages] [Bug 1673817] Re: update-secure-boot-policy behaving badly with unattended-upgrades
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected, Accepted shim-signed into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim- signed/1.27~16.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance! ** Changed in: shim-signed (Ubuntu Yakkety) Status: New => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unattended-upgrades in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1673817 Title: update-secure-boot-policy behaving badly with unattended-upgrades Status in shim-signed package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in shim-signed source package in Trusty: New Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Trusty: New Status in shim-signed source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Xenial: New Status in shim-signed source package in Yakkety: Fix Committed Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Yakkety: New Bug description: [Impact] Any user with unattended upgrades enabled and DKMS packages in a Secure Boot environment might be prompted to change Secure Boot policy, which will fail and crash in unattended-upgrades. [Test case] 1) Install new package 2) Create /var/lib/dkms/TEST-DKMS 3) Reboot triggering unattended-upgrades: Upgrade should run smoothly and complete without issue (see original description). [Regression Potential] Any failure to prompt for or change Secure Boot policy in mokutil (crashes of update-secureboot-policy, higher CPU usage, etc.) would constitute a regression of this SRU. Any other issues related to booting in Secure Boot mode should instead be directed to bug 1637290 (shim update). --- Currently, unattended-upgrades will automatically install all updates for those running development releases of Ubuntu (LP: #1649709) Today, my computer was acting very sluggish. Looking at my process list, I saw/ usr/sbin/update-secureboot-policy was using a log of CPU. I killed the process. I have a /var/crash/shim-signed.0.crash but since it's 750 MB, I didn't bother submitting it or looking at it more. Maybe it crashed because I killed the process. Also, I see that unattended-upgrades-dpkg.log is 722 MB. Today's update included both VirtualBox and the linux kernel. I am attaching an excerpt of /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended- upgrades-dpkg.log This message was repeated a very large number of times (but I only included it once in the attachment: "Invalid password The Secure Boot key you've entered is not valid. The password used must be between 8 and 16 characters." [Touch-packages] [Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
Tested on Xenial pre-Proposed: 15 hits with-Proposed: 0 hits Also for general regression things seem to work normal. Setting verification-done. Yutani - if you could also verify Proposed that would make it even better! ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644530 Title: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings Status in keepalived package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Status in keepalived source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Status in systemd source package in Xenial: New Status in keepalived package in Debian: New Bug description: [Impact] * Restarts of keepalived can leave stale processes with the old configuration around. * The systemd detection of the MainPID is suboptimal, and combined with not waiting on signals being handled it can fail on second restart killing the (still) remaining process of the first start. * Upstream has a PIDFile statement, this has proven to avoid the issue in the MainPID guessing code of systemd. [Test Case] * Set up keepalived, the more complex the config is the "bigger" is the reace window, below in the description is a trivial sample config that works well. * As a test run the loop restarting the service head-to-head while staying under the max-restart limit $ for j in $(seq 1 20); do sleep 11s; time for i in $(seq 1 5); do sudo systemctl restart keepalived; sudo systemctl status keepalived | egrep 'Main.*exited'; done; done Expectation: no output other than timing Without fix: sometimes MainPIDs do no more exist, in these cases the child processes are the "old" ones from last execution with the old config. [Regression Potential] * Low because * A PIDFile statement is recommended by systemd for type=forking services anyway. * Upstream keepalived has this statement in their service file * By the kind of change, it should have no functional impact to other parts of the service other than for the PID detection of the job by Systemd. * Yet regression potential is never zero. There might be the unlikely case, which were considered working before due to a new config not properly being picked up. After the fix they will behave correctly and might show up as false-positives then if e.g. config was bad. [Other Info] * Usually a fix has to be in at least the latest Development release before SRUing it. But as I outlined below in later Releases than Xenial systemd seems to have improved making this change not-required. We haven't identified the bits for this (there is a bug task here), and they might as well be very complex. I think it is correct to fix Xenial in this regard with the simple change to the service file for now. * To eventually match I created a Debian bug task to ask them for the inclusion of the PIDFile so it can slowly tickle back down to newer Ubuntu Releases - also there more often people run backports where the issue might occur on older systemd versions (just as it does for us on Xenial) --- Because "PIDFile=" directive is missing in the systemd unit file, keepalived sometimes fails to kill all old processes. The old processes remain with old settings and cause unexpected behaviors. The detail of this bug is described in this ticket in upstream: https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/issues/443. The official systemd unit file is available since version 1.2.24 by this commit: https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/commit/635ab69afb44cd8573663e62f292c6bb84b44f15 This includes "PIDFile" directive correctly: PIDFile=/var/run/keepalived.pid We should go the same way. I am using Ubuntu 16.04.1, kernel 4.4.0-45-generic. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1628589] Re: Need better session management for apps
No, not a duplicate - bug 1671424 is about *not* signalling the processes, but just closing the windows. This bug is about quitting the whole app at once (not all its windows in sequence) or force-quitting it for whatever reason (say, misbehaving app). With Unity8, an app is more than just the Mir client - it's the whole group of processes managed through UAL/systemd. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1671424 qtmir destroys windows after requesting them to close -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1628589 Title: Need better session management for apps Status in Canonical System Image: Triaged Status in Libertine: Triaged Status in Libertine devel series: Triaged Status in Libertine trunk series: Triaged Status in libertine package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in ubuntu-app-launch package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: This is the master bug for better session management for apps. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1675685] [NEW] Click python namespace clashes with another Python project
Public bug reported: The click python library provided by Ubuntu uses the namespace `click` with conflicts with another project with the same name (http://click.pocoo.org/5/). This can (and has caused) serious issues. I spent several hours troubleshooting an Ubuntu 17.04 upgrade because I happened to have click installed with pip in /usr/local/. One of the two projects has to let go of the namespace and since the Ubuntu project isn't used for general programming, is much less widespread and isn't available in Pypi, this one should change its namespace to something else. I noticed this has been done with the deb package, named python3-click- package (which conflicts with python3-click) but since click is also installable with pip, this is not enough to avoid issues. ** Affects: click (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to click in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675685 Title: Click python namespace clashes with another Python project Status in click package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The click python library provided by Ubuntu uses the namespace `click` with conflicts with another project with the same name (http://click.pocoo.org/5/). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1675683] [NEW] Computer sluggish/irresponsive for several minutes after hibernation
Public bug reported: Hi, my computer is very sluggish for a good five minutes after thawing from hibernation. Booting the system and the thawing process in itself seems to run fine : the console displays the progress of reloading contents into RAM at a satisfying pace, then the lightdm unlock interface displays. >From this point on, things become strange : the computer has an constant and intense hard drive activity and applications do not respond to input in a swift manner (moving the mouse cursor works in "real time" though, and the clock, which displays seconds, also works almost normally). This reminds me of what happens when you set focus back to an application that had been paged to swap : it is irresponsive until it is back in RAM. Except this happens for all applications at once. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1675703] [NEW] [Latitude E5550, Intel Broadwell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem
Public bug reported: When i play music, through my built in speakers, i don't have an issue. But when i play it through my headphones is sometimes have problems. The music plays a lot slower, like in slow motion. When i switch to my builtin speakers, i notice that the rhythm is again what it should be. switching back to my headphones, it's again a lot slower. Once the issue is happening, i need to reboot my computer to have normal playback on my headphones again. For some reason, i have the feeling that the issue is occurring 90% of the time after the computer has been locked, or in hibernation. But there are moments when it's already slow at startup. my setup: laptop, connected to external screen (Dell UltraSharp U2515H) by HDMI. Headphones connected to the external screen. But if i connect the headphones straight away on the laptop, i have the same issue. So to conclude: When i turn on my music i expect that the playback speed of youtube or livestreams should be at normal rate, and that the rate does not change when i switch from headphones to builtin speakers or vice versa == Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Release:16.04 == alsaplayer-alsa: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-base: Installed: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status alsa-source: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 Version table: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe i386 Packages alsamixergui: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.9.0rc2-1-9.1 Version table: 0.9.0rc2-1-9.1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-output: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) Version table: alsaplayer: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) Version table: alsaplayer-jack: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-common: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) Version table: alsaplayer-esd: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-gtk: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-utils: Installed: 1.1.0-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 1.1.0-0ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1.1.0-0ubuntu5 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status alsaplayer-text: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-firmware-loaders: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/multiverse amd64 Packages alsaplayer-xosd: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-tools: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-nas: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-oss: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsaplayer-interface: Installed: (none) Candidate: (none) Version table: alsaplayer-daemon: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.99.81-1ubuntu3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-tools-gui: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: 1.1.0-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages alsa-oss: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1.0.28-1ubuntu1 Version table: 1.0.28-1ubuntu1 500

In upstream AppArmor terms, this is /etc/apparmor.d/ but Ubuntu also adds additional locations. This behavior has previously caused a problem where libvirt-managed profiles would be unloaded upon "restarting AppArmor": https://launchpad.net/bugs/702774 Stéphane Graber created this bug report after he noticed that the same behavior was causing similar problems with lxd-manager profiles. In addition, AppArmor distro packaging may trigger an "AppArmor restart" when installing a new version of AppArmor, resulting in the same profile removal problem. This is true for the Debian/Ubuntu packaging. The upstream AppArmor team has decided to remove this functionality from the AppArmor restart logic to prevent a similar issue happening with the next external project that needs to privately manage their own set of AppArmor profiles. === Original Bug Report === Apparmor package upgrades unloads all LXD apparmor profiles, making all LXD containers unconfined. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1672144] Re: ifup service of network device stay active after driver stop
It works on linux 4.11-rc3. After kernel bisect, this commit fixes the issue: commit 91864f5852f9996210fad400cf70fb85af091243 Author: Andrey Vagin Date: Sun Mar 12 21:36:18 2017 -0700 net: use net->count to check whether a netns is alive or not The previous idea was to check whether a net namespace is in net_exit_list or not. It doesn't work, because net->exit_list is used in __register_pernet_operations and __unregister_pernet_operations where all namespaces are added to a temporary list to make cleanup in a error case, so list_empty(&net->exit_list) always returns false. Reported-by: Mantas Mikulėnas Fixes: 002d8a1a6c11 ("net: skip genenerating uevents for network namespaces that are exiting") Signed-off-by: Andrei Vagin Signed-off-by: David S. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1669524] Re: GTK window functions `Always on Top, Move and Resize' don't work in Mir/Unity8
I think there are distinct cases here: Case 1: (easy I hope) The client initiating a user-drag/resize is analogous to the existing input focus request. Vis: void mir_window_request_user_move(MirWindow* window, MirCookie const* cookie); void mir_window_request_user_resize(MirWindow* window, MirCookie const* cookie); Should be passed to the server, validated and handled by the WM policy exactly the same as: void mir_window_raise(MirWindow* window, MirCookie const* cookie); How the client decides on calling these (via a menu or not) isn't really the issue. This is addressed by lp:~alan-griffiths/mir/client-initiates-user-move- and-resize/+merge/320917 Case 2: "Always on top" would be a property of a window, the client could set (or reset) this on the MirWindowSpec. The WM policy gets to decide whether (and how) to respect this property. There's currently no support for such a property in libmirserver's SurfaceStack - so addressing that would be a pre-requisite to introducing such a property. Case 3: (comment #6) If there were some generic "window manager menu" that toolkits could request then that might be requested with a similar mechanism to case 1. But I've not seen a requirement for this (yet). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1669524 Title: GTK window functions `Always on Top, Move and Resize' don't work in Mir/Unity8 Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in Mir: In Progress Status in MirAL: Triaged Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in qtmir package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: ubuntu 17.04 unity8 [unity8] Always on Top, Move and Resize doesn't work open solitaire, right click on the title bar (see attachement) and then select Always on Top. the app doesn't stay on top. same with Move and Resize, does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1669524/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The input device hub would tell the key repeater when devices get removed - i.e. due to vt switching. So it never notices that the devices go away continues to produce those events indefinitely.
