[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624381] Re: add additional shortcut support for zoom/unzoom in US keyboards

2016-09-18 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Indeed on my fr-bépo keyboard layout Ctrl+= has the same effect as
Ctrl++ (zooming in incrementally) both in firefox and chromium, despite
the fact that "=" and "+" are two separate keys. Ctrl+_ doesn’t do
anything, but that’s probably because with this layout "_" is obtained
with AltGr+Space.

In chromium’s source code
(src/chrome/browser/ui/views/accelerator_table.cc), the following two
keyboard shortcuts are assigned to the "zooming in" action:

  { ui::VKEY_OEM_PLUS, ui::EF_CONTROL_DOWN, IDC_ZOOM_PLUS },
  { ui::VKEY_ADD, ui::EF_CONTROL_DOWN, IDC_ZOOM_PLUS },

and several other places in the code suggest that VKEY_OEM_PLUS is "=".
Similarly, VKEY_OEM_MINUS is "_".

Title:
add additional shortcut support for zoom/unzoom in US keyboards

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On US keyboards, the "+" (plus) key is in shifted position, and the
"-" (minus) is not. All the other browsers (chrome, chromium, firefox)
support the following shortcuts for zoom/unzoom and we should do the
same, so user does not have to press ctrl+shift as that is not
  expected.

  zoom in:
  ctrl+plus
  ctrl+equals

  zoom out:
  ctrl+underscore
  ctrl+minus

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624705] Re: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle

2016-09-18 Thread Eugene Shkel
Hi, honestly I don't remember issues like this. If it was happens once -
I can ignore it. But last week it became annoying(I have to reboot
laptop or X) - so I noticed and report it. I didn't upgrade to 16.04, I
upgraded to 16.04.1 in August. But didn't noticed such issue until few
last days. Don't remember any manual system modifications after
upgrading (issues with WiFi module)

Additional issue - I'm using dock station and external monitor, often
when I close lid the system suspended and resumed(this issue present
from 12.04). The font issue was noticed in both cases (on normal
behavior and on short suspend\resume cycle).

P.S. I updated BIOS. Should I update info somehow?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1620038] Re: Printing job is "completed" but nothing gets printed

2016-09-18 Thread markodd
** Description changed:

  OS: Xubuntu 16.04.1
  Printer Device: Brother DCP1610W

My printer is not working on my desktop. I've installed both drivers
under "printer" in the following link:

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=as_ot&lang=en&prod=dcp1610w_eu_as&os=128

The scanner works perfectly fine. I should mention that I've it working
on my laptop with exactly the same drivers and OS. After clicking on
"Print", the job status is "completed" but nothing gets printed. I can't
  print test pages.
+
+ Any idea what might be happening and I should I go about fixing this?

Here are the outputs of [CODE]tail -f /var/log/syslog [/CODE] before and
  after plugging my printer:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624775] [NEW] g++ compiler problems

2016-09-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi

I think there is a problem in g++ compiler libs.

I tried to compile https://github.com/dreamstalker/rehlds

On one of installation steps rehlds compiles own bzip2 that uses
random.h from system libs with g++.

And it fails with message
/usr/include/c++/4.8/bits/random.h(106): error expected a ";"
{typedef unsigned __int128 type;};
   ^

If i set ";" or remove "type;" compilation succeeds without errors.

Either it is simple copy-paste error or problem with "random.h"

** Affects: gcc-4.8 (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner)

2016-09-18 Thread Matthew Knight
First time posting on launchpad. Let me know if I missed something. :)

I am having this issue as well. Volume slider notification keeps popping
up. pulseaudio log makes it seem like the same jack plugged/unplugged
event.

Did anyone come up with a good workaround until this is resolved? A way
to mute the pulseaudio notifications?

Followed log guide here. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log

I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while
preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate
partition. Even during the installation I had constant volume
notification bubble appearing on the top-right corner of my screen, it
would come and go about twice every minute. I just thought it was due
to installing hardware drivers or something but the problem persisted
even when I booted into the freshly installed system. I did some
searching and two users reported the exact problem. And one more
suggested this happens because constant disconnect and reconnect of
the sound card which makes sense as the sound settings flashes briefly
during every popup. Someone on IRC suggested to kill pulseaudio and
thus restart it, that does not fix the issue. I also tried the Live
environment thinking it might be due to some old config files in home
partition (which was preserved during upgrade), but this problem
happens in the live environment as well, which makes sense because it
was present during installation as well.

When upower was updated, the system claimed that my UPS was empty.
The system then proceeded to shut down. On reboot, the UPS was fully
  charged as expected.

This is a major data loss concern. The system shut down while
upgrading packages. Perhaps the bug is in the handling of my specific
  UPS but it's still important.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624897] [NEW] Mouse pointer sometimes becomes invisible for a while

2016-09-18 Thread Matteo Dell'Amico
Public bug reported:

Sometimes the mouse pointer becomes invisible for a while; then -- and I
don't understand what triggers that -- it reappears. The mouse continues
working -- mouseover and clicking works, so the only problem is that the
pointer is invisible.

Happy to give you more details to help understand what's happening.

Running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist.

Bug description:
Sometimes the mouse pointer becomes invisible for a while; then -- and

Title:
  Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads

Status in at-spi2-core package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Here is what I encounter
  1. Boot computer, boot proceeds normally
  2. Reach standard Ubuntu login screen, nothing seems to be amiss
  3. Enter user name and password
  4. Login disappears, just see the pink "Ubuntu 14.04" background

The desktop never loads, not even after ~30 minutes. The launcher
never appears, and the Desktop background never changes to the user-
  configured background.

  Other features:
  * Cursor works fine, it can be moved around the screen
  * No error messages pop up
  * ALT+F1 etc. can be used to switch to different TTYs; all files on the
system appear to be intact
  * Print screen button works (I will upload a screen shot when I get a chance
to copy it onto a USB drive)
  * Hitting power button pops up a window prompting the user to decide whether
to shut down
  * CTRL+ALT+DELETE prompts the user to log out
  * Desktop does not load on any user accounts, including the guest account

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with policykit-1 0.105-4ubuntu2 and on
trying to change from gksu to pexec I'm ecountering some errors:

  1. pkexec isn't showing a graphical frontend and asks directly in the
terminal for the password.
  2. After successfully authenticating pkexec closes mostly without giving an
error message. Here is an example output:

  sworddragon@ubuntu:~$ pkexec pcmanfm

Authentication is needed to run `/usr/bin/pcmanfm' as the super user
  Authenticating as: ,,, (sworddragon)

But sometimes I'm getting also an error message:

  sworddragon@ubuntu:~$ pkexec pcmanfm
   AUTHENTICATING FOR org.freedesktop.policykit.exec ===
Authentication is needed to run `/usr/bin/pcmanfm' as the super user
  Authenticating as: ,,, (sworddragon)

process was requested but ECHILD was received by waitpid(). Most likely the
process is ignoring SIGCHLD, or some other thread is invoking waitpid() with a
nonpositive first argument; either behavior can break applications that use
g_child_watch_add()/g_spawn_sync() either directly or indirectly.
   AUTHENTICATION COMPLETE ===

Both times calling "echo $?" afterwards shows 129.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624944] [NEW] ui not responding correctly to stail/outdated creds for wpa/wpa2 enterprise connections

2016-09-18 Thread Mathijs Veen
Public bug reported:

os: Ubuntu-touch rc-proposed (r530)
device: Nexus4-Mako (but can be reproduces on Bq Aquaris M10)

When one is in range of a previously stored enterprise wifi connection, but the
credentials are known to be stail/outdated, upon connecting to that network,
the list-item of the selected connection will show as 'connected'. This is
ofcourse not actually true.
This can be done both in system-settings --> Wifi and in the dropdownlist of
available connections.

What should happen is that upon failing to authenticate to the network,
a popup should appear prompting the user to update the password.

Currently, the only way for the user to reconnect is to go into
'Previous networks', delete the connection there, and then register the
connection again.

This bug can be steadily reproduced on the Eduroam network in the school
where I work. The assumption is however that all Enterprise wifi
networks are effected.

Below is my .cache/upstart/indicator-network.log
That doesn't show much afaict but it was requested:

working on my laptop with exactly the same drivers and OS. After
clicking on "Print", the job status is "completed" but nothing gets

Any idea what might be happening and I should I go about fixing this?

Title:
Closing an application doesn’t actually close it, it merely requests
all its windows to be closed

Status in Mir:
  New
Status in mir package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in qtmir package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Currently in unity8, when requesting to "Quit" a running application
from the launcher, what happens is that qtmir goes through all its
associated windows/surfaces, and closes them one by one. Supposedly,
when the last window is closed, the application terminates itself (but
this is not necessarily the case, see
  https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qguiapplication.html#quitOnLastWindowClosed-
  prop).

This prevents application authors from doing proper cleanup before the
app is closed. For example in Qt, the QCoreApplication::aboutToQuit()
signal is emitted only after all windows have been closed, so the
application doesn’t get a chance to e.g. save the list of open windows
(real use case for multi-window browser application which saves the
  current session).

This is similar to unity7’s implementation by the way, but I think
it’s wrong. Surely there must be a way (maybe toolkit-specific) to
request an app to terminate itself (and fall back to closing all
  windows if not).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1485316] Re: dnsmasq breaks DNS, if not used as DNS server

dnsmasq breaks DNS, if not used as DNS server

Status in dnsmasq package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I use dnsmasq mainly as a TFTP/DHCP combination and disable the part
  of the dns-resolver.

So i use port=0 to disable the DNS part. But the init-
script always rewrites the resolv.conf, no matter if DNS is actually
  used.

Could you add an option to the defaults-file, which the init-script
checks and dependent on this, rewrites the config-file?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624965] [NEW] console respawn is sometimes slow and sometimes fast

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev with systemd 231-6 and I'm noticing that login into
the console and than logout does show the lines
[ OK ] Stopped Getty on tty1.
[ OK ] Started Getty on tty1.
and the console needs then a few seconds to respawn. But if I login into my
desktop (and even if I logout then immediately) all works fine again as the
console respawns immediately after a logout.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624967] [NEW] $TERM is not set for /etc/rc.local

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev with systemd 231-6 and after upgrading from
upstart to systemd I'm noticing that a setterm command fails that I have
put into /etc/rc.local in the past (to make specific settings on the
console without requiring a login). On making a look at this I figured
out that $TERM is not set at default anymore and maybe it makes sense to
set it at default again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624705] Re: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle

2016-09-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Eugene Shkel, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

Title:
python-magic is incomplete on Ubuntu LTS?

Status in file package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: file

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

  I installed python-magic with: sudo apt-get install python-magic (the
file that gets installed is python-magic_5.03-5ubuntu1_i386.deb)

However, when I start Python (version 2.6.5) and I "import magic" and
I then do "dir(magic)", it seems as though the module does not contain
all the definitions that I can see on python-magic's github repo (i.e.
  the Ubuntu package seems outdated):

  ['MAGIC_APPLE', 'MAGIC_CHECK', 'MAGIC_COMPRESS', 'MAGIC_CONTINUE',
  'MAGIC_DEBUG', 'MAGIC_DEVICES', 'MAGIC_ERROR', 'MAGIC_MIME',
  'MAGIC_MIME_ENCODING', 'MAGIC_MIME_TYPE', 'MAGIC_NONE',
  'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_APPTYPE', 'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_CDF',
  'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_COMPRESS', 'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_ELF',
  'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_ENCODING', 'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_SOFT',
  'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_TAR', 'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_TEXT', 'MAGIC_NO_CHECK_TOKENS',
  'MAGIC_PRESERVE_ATIME', 'MAGIC_RAW', 'MAGIC_SYMLINK', '__doc__',
  '__file__', '__name__', '__package__', 'error', 'open']

What's up? Am I doing something wrong?

  Joubert

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624967] Re: $TERM is not set for /etc/rc.local

2016-09-18 Thread Martin Pitt
$TERM only gets set for units which have Standard{Output,Error}=tty. By
default services only have a stdout/err pipe to the journal, and rc-
local.service uses journal+console which is still a pipe. So it would be
actively wrong to set $TERM there as it is not actually a terminal. (See
man systemd.exec).

You can create your own unit with Standard{Output,Error}=tty and a
setterm call, of course.

$TERM is not set for /etc/rc.local

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev with systemd 231-6 and after upgrading from
upstart to systemd I'm noticing that a setterm command fails that I
have put into /etc/rc.local in the past (to make specific settings on
the console without requiring a login). On making a look at this I
figured out that $TERM is not set at default anymore and maybe it
makes sense to set it at default again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

2016-09-18 Thread Martin Pitt
The upstream issue actually applies to both. IMHO, if you restrict a DNS
server to a particular list of domains it should be used *exactly* for
the given domains (only). Querying it for other domains is a privacy
leak, and querying other name servers for those domains is most probably
going to fail anyway and thus a waste.

> Also, here I am using NetworkManager, not systemd-networkd.

That's unrelated, as that is about resolving DNS names, not bringing up
the network.

So, this does match the upstream issue, setting to triaged.

systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I use a VPN configured with network-manager-openconnect-gnome in which
a split-horizon DNS setup assigns different addresses to some names
inside the remote network than the addresses seen for those names from
outside the remote network. However, systemd-resolved often decides
to ignore the VPN’s DNS servers and use the local network’s DNS
servers to resolve names (whether in the remote domain or not),
  breaking the split-horizon DNS.

current Fedora release at the time reaching EOL:

console respawns immediately after a logout.
