NOTE: kgunn suggests this bug be about 1) not 2) here

  1)
I have been noticing my phone and tablet occasionally turning on without
interaction. Several times with my phone in my pocket I found it in the
emergency call UI
I also see the tablet display turn on while lying idle on the desk. Freiza &
Arale

  2)
I have reproduced one case such that turning on a BT device (headset) causes
the phone to light up and display the volume slider. Similarly turning on the
BT keyboard while the tablet screen is off caused the display to turn on.These
may be as intended.

I suspect other BT events can similarly resume the device and/or turn on the
display if it happens to be awake due to the 5 min polling timer.
The proximity sensor is also not honored when this happens, if its covered
the screen still comes on.

2016-05-05 Thread Kugi Eusebio
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Use adaptive layout and assign a Listview with Scrollbars in the first
column (primary page)
2. Try to move the scroll using the mouse cursor.

Expected Results:
The scrollbar should be easy to grab and move smoothly.

Actual Results:
Large part of the scrollbar triggers the column resize insted of moving the
scroll.
Only way to move the scroll is to grab from the left end or near it.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 124440] Re: [enhancement] Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse scrolling speed

2016-05-05 Thread Adam
It hardly seems invalid. Not everyone likes the default mouse speed.

My father, who is in his mid seventies, likes to slow the mouse so it is to
his pace. Others like it a lot faster so they only have to move the mouse
or across the touchpad a small amount .

I am aware that this is a bigger issue for certain cases of multi boot
users, but it it is not a simple issue.

One size does (speed) does not fit all.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 124440] Re: [enhancement] Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse wheel scrolling speed

2016-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I agree, it's a perfectly valid request...

Just realistically it probably won't get fixed in Unity7's 'gnome-
control-center (Ubuntu)' as that gets replaced by Unity8's 'ubuntu-
system-settings (Ubuntu)'.

More more importantly; see comment #51 where I pointed out that Linux is
so eclectic that it's probably not feasible to ever fix this in an
X11-based system, except separately for each class of GUI toolkit. Even
with the introduction of Unity8 it will be similarly difficult, made
easier only in that we control and author the low-level input system
(Mir).

This isn't the first time this fault has been closed and reopened. Is
there any way this can be prevented?

Sadly I have no coding ability to develop a solution.

I also forgot... you can make the wheel less sensitive now:

1. Find out the device name of your mouse running 'xinput'

2. Slow down the scrolling speed like with my mouse:
xinput set-prop 'Microsoft Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)'
'Evdev Scrolling Distance' 5 5 5

The default values are 1 1 1. It seems higher is slower.

2016-05-05 Thread yossarian_uk
Public bug reported:

I am unable to change any settings within network-manager for any wired
interface (not tried wireless) - if you try to change anything (i.e dns
servers, ipv6 settings, change from dhcp -> dhcp address only) you get
an error (and the setting doesn't change)

i.e - in this example I selected 'require IPV4' and I get

May 5 09:13:08 mcox-N552VW NetworkManager[810]:
[1462435988.7023] audit: op="connection-update"
uuid="c91931f0-15d1-4d29-9b76-e80ef5a4abcd" name="Wired connection 1"
result="fail" reason="connection.gateway-ping-timeout: can not set
property: value "34184640" of type 'guint' is invalid or out of range
for property 'gateway-ping-timeout' of type 'guint'"

(similar errors occur if you try to change any setting)

This is happening on multiple machines.

As a 'work-around' you have to remove the interface and re-add to change
settings.

ProblemType: Bug

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578304] Re: Focusing the address bar doesn’t invoke the OSK

2016-05-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I can’t seem to reproduce the issue with a simple standalone example (attached).
So there must be something more complex at work in the browser codebase.

On a touch device, when tapping once on the address bar to focus it,
its entire contents get selected, but it doesn’t actually get active
focus, so the OSK doesn’t pop up. One has to tap once more on the text
field, which has the unfortunate side effect of de-selecting the URL.

A large number of the browser autopilot tests are now failing because
of that new behaviour (I wonder how that was not detected prior to
  landing that new UITK).

2016-05-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1545802 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1545802

This is yet another occurrence of the infamous bug #1545802. I’ve
instrumented the browser code to print on the console the current
activeFocusItem at all times, and when I reproduce the issue, I can see
that the TextField for the address bar gets the active focus, but it is
not being passed down to the QQuickTextInput inside it. Tapping once
again on the text field then correctly focuses the QQuickTextInput.

  SRU INFORMATION
  ===
In some of these cases this bug can be worked around by calling "wpa_cli
suspend/resume" before/after suspend, like we used to do with the old pm-utils
quirks (/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/60_wpa_supplicant). This only affects
particular hardware, and thus this needs to be tested by affected reporters,
there is no general reproducer for arbitrary systems.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1545802] Re: activeFocus not being forwarded to TextInput inside TextField

2016-05-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Another (simpler) way of reproducing this issue on a touch device
(initially reported as bug #1578304), on the latest rc-proposed image:

  - ensure that the webview has active focus
  - tap once on the address bar

The entire text inside the address bar gets selected, as expected, but
the active focus remains on the TextField itself, it is not being passed
down to the QQuickTextInput inside it.

Tapping once again on the address bar then correctly focuses the
QQuickTextInput.

Haven’t managed to reproduce with a standalone example yet, but I can
reliably reproduce the following issue with the browser app on a
tablet with a bluetooth keyboard connected (this needs to be on a
tablet so that the wide layout of the app is used, for example with a
Nexus 7 (flo) in landscape orientation):

   1) launch the browser app with a bluetooth keyboard attached and ensure that
the current tab is not a new tab
   2) press Ctrl+T to open a new tab

Expected result: the address bar gets active focus so that the user
can start entering a URL right away

Current result: the address bar gets active focus for a fraction of a
second, then looses it. When that happens, pressing Ctrl+L (which
forces focus on the address bar) doesn’t fix it.

I added some debugging to the browser (printing Window.activeFocusItem
whenever it changes), and it appears that when initially forcing active focus
on the address bar the QQuickTextInput inside it gets active focus, then looses
it. At that point the activeFocusItem is the TextField, but it doesn’t forward
it to QQuickTextInput inside itself.

That situation can be remedied by using a bluetooth mouse to click on
the address bar, which restores active focus on the QQuickTextInput.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571508] Re: apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_mmap"

2016-05-05 Thread Thomas Gegenheimer
Should I also use "flags=(attach_disconnected)" at ^owncloud or only at
/usr/sbin/apache2?

I put the flag at /usr/sbin/apache2 and ^owncloud and now I get no DENIED

Is that a good result?

What does that flag mean?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578545] [NEW] Unable to send a message from the recent list

2016-05-05 Thread GTriderXC
Public bug reported:

I had a wish that we would be able to send a message from the list of recent
calls as we know it from other devices.
Today I missed a call from a number that is not on my contact list. I wanted to
answer with a message and not only suprisingly didn't find a proper option that
would allow me to do it but also I was unable to paste (copying a number from
the phone app succeded) the copied number into a messenger number field.
I pasted the number into a message field and then seeing the number below I
typed it by hand into a number field.
Users would be greatful if there was an option to send a message in an easier
way. I find this issue even more interesting as we are already able to send a
message to someone (answer the ringing phone with a message) while the
telephone is ringing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578546] [NEW] Fullscreen window that is not focused shows behind the menu of a focused maximized window

2016-05-05 Thread Ciro Santilli 六四事件 法轮功
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04, just upgraded from 15.10.

To reproduce:

- open gnome-terminal or any window that can become fullscreen and make it
fullscreen (F11)
- open any other window maximized and give it focus

Outcome: the background fullscreen shows behind the menu, making it hard
to read.

See the top of the attached screenshot.

Do others reproduce on a fresh 16.04, or is it some package / setting
that broke from 15.10?

  Binary package hint: unity

In tabbed interfaces such as in gnome-terminal under unity it is
difficult to visually distinguish the selected tab from the unselected
  ones.

In the attached screenshot, gnome-terminal has three tabs open, and
the third one is selected. If you look close you can see the text is
slightly whiter than the other tabs, and the border is a little more
prominent but to my old man eyes it's really hard to see it at a
  glance.

Under metacity, the difference is more notable (or at least, the theme
  is different).

My guess is this is a theme issue rather than unity, but I'm unsure.
If it is just a theme issue please refile to the right project.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578540] Re: setupcon looks for VARIANT in wrong path: /usr/etc/default/

2016-05-05 Thread TJ
I noticed the existing code to set {USER,MAIN}_CONFIG{,2} is a bit
messed up; USER_CONFIG refers to console-setup but MAIN_CONFIG refers to
keyboard which means lack of a keyboard.${VARIANT} causes the incorrect
error message and failure.

The assignments to CONFIG{,2} are also reversed; when USER_CONFIG CONFIG
=console-setup but when MAIN_CONFIG CONFIG=keyboard.

I've replaced all that code with a new function find_config() which
makes a call to findfile() and handles a graceful fallback if the
variant file isn't located. The /etc/default/ path is added into the
list searched by findfiles().

The actual config file(s) used are reported.

$ /bin/setupcon -v tj
Unable to find keyboard.tj.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578589] [NEW] Add support for as inner authentication in PEAP

2016-05-05 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Networkmanager has no option for "none" as inner authentication.

MSCHAPv2, GTC and MD5 are the only options.

The page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1726522 suggests
adding "none" as phase2-auth, but doing that syslog tells me the config
for that network is invalid.

However, this works fine with the wpa_supplicant config file
~/scowlan.conf:

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=root
network={
 ssid="PS-XWLAN"
 key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
 eap=PEAP
 phase1="peaplabel=0"
 phase2="none"
 identity="USERNAME"
 password="PASSWORD"
}

and running it like this works fine:
wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c ~/scowlan.conf

I guess adding "none" as a recognizable option in networkmanager will do
(?)

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578601] [NEW] Crash when choosing "yes" to some popups when locked

2016-05-05 Thread Alan Pope 
Public bug reported:

Every so often I get a popup on my krillin rc proposed telling me my
google account credentials have expired, and asking me if I want to fix
it. I usually click "no" because I'll do it later. Today i clicked "yes"
while my phone was locked. Unity8 crashed.

Have your phone configured to sync calendars
Let your credentials become stale / expire
Wait
Eventually when sync-monitor is checking for calendar entries it will popup a
notification which asks if you want to fix the issue.
Select "no" and it goes away - don't do this.
Select "yes"

Expected behaviour:-

It should ask you to unlock the phone and then take you to system
settings

Actual behaviour:-

Unity8 dies.

Crash file attached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1562875] Re: Totem can't play H264 on fresh 16.04 beta install

I had the same issue after a beta install, and upgrade to final.

Removing the ~/.cache/gestreamer-1.0 folder, as proposed by snerge, also
solved the problem on my machine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576235] Re: FTBFS - ubuntu-keyboard - xenial arm64

2016-05-05 Thread Michael Sheldon
Looks like the problem here is just that the platform-api packages
aren't available on amd64, looking at the last build of platform-api it
seems that in turn was hung up on needing libhybris to be compiled for
amd64 (which it seems to have been now). So presumably retriggering a
build platform-api for amd64 should be enough to fix the keyboard build
as well?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578619] [NEW] [regression] Extra flickable margin added when using PullToRefresh

2016-05-05 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

The attached test works fine under OTA-10, but fails in rc-proposed.
This is most likely caused by https://code.launchpad.net/~tpeeters
/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/invisible-header-topmargin/+merge/290659 which also
causes bug 1572525 and I asked to be reverted.

To reproduce, run the attached test case with qmlscene:

1) Wait for the window to be populated (network connectivity is needed)
2) Swipe down, to trigger the pull to refresh action
3) View automatically jumps to the second page
4) navigate back to the first page
5) watch the flickable topMargin: the pulltorefresh item is now visible

If time you repeat steps 2-4, the topMargin increases.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578319] Re: Some ubuntu-ui-toolkit AP tests failing to launch - rejected by unity8 as is using desktop_file_hint

2016-05-05 Thread Gerry Boland
Doing a grep in my directory which holds a bunch of applications, I see
quite a few are using the desktop_file_hint flag. I think those that
point it to /usr/share/applications will succeed, so they'll be ok. But
we might break other AP tests I don't have locally

Title:
Some ubuntu-ui-toolkit AP tests failing to launch - rejected by unity8

Status in ubuntu-app-launch package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm trying to run the ubuntu-ui-toolkit autopilot tests on today's
  image.

First off, they could cause unity8 to crash, which is bug 1578258 which can
be resolved with
  https://code.launchpad.net/~gerboland/qtmir/ual-catch-exception/+merge/293805

That causes unity8 to report it rejects some of the test apps the UITK
  AP test tries to launch:

  qtmir.applications: ApplicationController::createApp - UAL failed to
create app for appId "ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery" : Invalid app ID:
  ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery

UITK AP is launching like this:

  /usr/bin/ubuntu-ui-toolkit-launcher -testability -I /usr/lib/modules
  /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/examples//ubuntu-ui-toolkit/examples
  /ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery/ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery.qml
  --desktop_file_hint=/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/examples/ubuntu-
  ui-toolkit/examples/ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery/ubuntu-ui-toolkit-
  gallery.desktop

which is not using upstart-app-launch - which would explain the fail.
desktop_file_hint is not a supported means of launching an app (and
can go away at any time), so UITK should change to use UAL in its AP
  tests.

This indeed used to work until recently, but a recent refactoring
broke the desktop_file_hint behaviour. Since it's not a supported
behaviour, it should be relied on, so it would be better to fix UITK
  than restore the old behaviour.

Bug description:
Chromium has dropped the ability for beforeunload handlers to set the
dialog message text. Instead, Chromium will display a stock message,
making it behave the same as Firefox. This will affect Oxide too -
beforeunload dialog components will be created with an empty message
  string.

I assume webbrowser-app already handles an empty message string by
displaying its own text, but given that this API exists in Oxide, I
wonder whether we should specify a stock message in Oxide and expose
  it via the existing API.

  [Impact]

In certain environments, for example when using LDAP, users can end up
in a group with no name. When that happens, sudo crashes when
attempting to look up the group name for the debug log.

Upstream has commited a simple fix for this issue, it has been
commited to Yakkety, and uploaded to Xenial.

  [Test Case]

I currently don't know an easy way to reproduce this, it is
environment-specific. A package containing the fix was successfully
  tested in the problematic environment.

  [Regression Potential]

A regression in the patch would prevent users from using sudo. The
risk of regression is low since the patch only changes the debug log.

  Original report:

If the user is in a group with no name (because libnss-db got removed
and the group was defined there, for example...) then:

the call to sudo_debug_printf in sudo_getgrgid
(plugins/sudoers/pwutil.c, line 462) causes a SEGV when trying to get
  item->d.gr->gr_name (since item->d.gr is NULL).

I had a need to set a custom config file for ntp. I looked about and found
that I could pass a '-c' option and that options for ntp are set in
/etc/default/ntp in NTPD_OPTS. So I put it in there: NTPD_OPTS='-g -c
/path/to/custom/ntp.conf'. It worked. Until I deployed to another box that was
receiving NTP settings via DHCP. On that box, ntpd exited with an error because
it had received two config files in its arguments. Not good.

After reading through the init script, I opted to add a new variable
to /etc/default/ntp specifically for holding a custom config file.
Attached is a patch that will use that value if DHCP has not created
its own ntp.conf. If NTP settings were passed via DCHP, then those
settings will override the custom config file.

  ntpdate.dhcp always ignored

Status in NTP:
  Unknown
Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Ubuntu 9.04, affects the ntpdate binary package

Problem: Using dhcp a file ntpdate.dhcp is created but never used.

By default NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF in /etc/default/ntpdate is set to
"yes". This has the following consequences:

/usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian parses /etc/default/ntpdate and checks for
  /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf if
NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is set to yes. By default ntpd is not installed
therefore there is no /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf or
/etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf. ntpdate-debian then defaults to the
NTPSERVERS set in /etc/default/ntpdate, namely "ntp.ubuntu.com". Only
if NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is set to "no" there will be a check for
/etc/default/ntpdate.dhcp and consequently the server supplied by dhcp
  be used.

I propose to set NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF to "no" by default. If ntpd is
installed, this will override the use of ntpdate and
/etc/ntpd.conf.dhcp and /etc/default/ntpdate.dhcp will both be created
by DHCP anyway, therefore both packages will use the DHCP supplied
  servers in any case.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578394] Re: Keyboard shortcut F11 does not work as expected

2016-05-05 Thread Michał Sawicz
We've discussed having the shell interpret F11 for fullscreen, the
problem is that means apps would not receive that key any more. While a
common standard, it's conceivable that some apps have F11 as a
functional key, so we'd have to take that away from them.

We've decided it's the app's responsibility to handle F11 for
fullscreen. There will, however, be another shortcut - Ctrl+Super+Up,
that's used today to maximize an app, and we'll allow for that to make a
maximized app fullscreen.

** Summary changed:

- Keyboard shortcut F11 does not work as expected
+ Ctrl+Super+Up/Down should switch apps between
Fullscreen/Maximized/Restored/Minimized

** Description changed:

  bq M10 with OTA-10.1

After pressing F11 button on external keyboard I expect an app window
which is focused will go full screen but it does not happen.
+
+ ===
+
+ See comments below - F11 will be left for apps to handle - but
+ Ctrl+Super+Up/Down will move apps between different states.

See comments below - F11 will be left for apps to handle - but
Ctrl+Super+Up/Down will move apps between different states.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578628] [NEW] Upstart log files are not reopened after rolling

2016-05-05 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

Seen on stable and proposed vivid based touch images
I noticed on two of my devices that after a scheduled rolling of the files in
/var/log/upstart that there were no active *.log files at all.
The config for upstart includes nocreate but this has always been this way.
Is this intended or did something change in logrotate?
A similar bug report states that the files will be opened on a subsequent write
from the upstart process, but this is clearly not happening.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578469] Re: Crashes in unity8 cause infinite restarts and/or a permanently black screen

2016-05-05 Thread Michał Sawicz
The default respawn limit is 10 within 5 seconds [1].

We definitely want unity8 to respawn, but maybe we just need to increase
the time limit (since it probably takes quite a bit of time for unity8
to crash - it likely misses the 5s mark).

google account credentials have expired, and asking me if I want to
fix it. I usually click "no" because I'll do it later. Today i clicked
"yes" while my phone was locked. Unity8 crashed.

Have your phone configured to sync calendars
Let your credentials become stale / expire
  Wait
Eventually when sync-monitor is checking for calendar entries it will popup a
notification which asks if you want to fix the issue.
Select "no" and it goes away - don't do this.
  Select "yes"

  Expected behaviour:-

It should ask you to unlock the phone and then take you to system
  settings

  Actual behaviour:-

  Unity8 dies.

  Crash file attached.

I also see the tablet display turn on while lying idle on the desk. Freiza &

DHCP client is sending discover with Unicast type request for the
offer, in this configuration of IB to ETH through a relay we need the
  type to be broadcast.

The issue is that when using dhclient from the client on Ubuntu (and only on
Ubuntu) with MOFED or inbox driver, we see that that DHCP server offers in
unicast instead of broadcast. It seems there is no way to correct this from the
client side using dhclient configuration file.
this issue exist even when we use always-broadcast statement in configuration
file.

in other vendors we see that discover request type is broadcast.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable

2016-05-05 Thread Johnny Arthur
The problem seems to be due to uefi secure boot option now checking also the
keys of modules, which the nvidia driver obviously does not provide. Disabling
secure boot solved the problem for me, but completely disabling it just because
there is no signature for the nvidia driver seems to be a really bad option!
Shouldn't there be an option to install signatures for third party drivers,
that are supported (nvidia, virtualbox etc)?
I think this bug rather affects the package 'shim'...

Indicator disappears entirely when disabling / turning off bluetooth

Status in indicator-bluetooth package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Bug 1116289 made the BT indicator disappear when there is no hardware.
However, with that version I now also have it disappear when my
existing BT hardware is merely disabled. I. e. I disable BT from the
indicator, then it disappears, leaving me no obvious method to turn it
back on again. I can re-enabble it in control-center, and then the
  indicator comes back.

I think when it sees no actual BT hardware it ought to check rfkill
whether there is disabled BT hardware:

  $ grep -r . /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/{type,state,soft,persistent}
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/type:bluetooth
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:1
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/soft:0
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/persistent:1

After disabling BT from the indicator, "soft" changes to 1:

  $ grep -r . /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/{type,state,soft,persistent}
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/type:bluetooth
  /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state:0

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578319] Re: Some ubuntu-ui-toolkit AP tests failing to launch - rejected by unity8 as is using desktop_file_hint

2016-05-05 Thread Michael Terry

Add support for as inner authentication in PEAP

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Networkmanager has no option for "none" as inner authentication.

MSCHAPv2, GTC and MD5 are the only options.

  The page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1726522 suggests
adding "none" as phase2-auth, but doing that syslog tells me the
config for that network is invalid.

However, this works fine with the wpa_supplicant config file
  ~/scowlan.conf:

  ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=root
  network={
   ssid="PS-XWLAN"
   key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
   eap=PEAP
   phase1="peaplabel=0"
   phase2="none"
   identity="USERNAME"
   password="PASSWORD"
  }

and running it like this works fine:
  wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c ~/scowlan.conf

I guess adding "none" as a recognizable option in networkmanager will
  do (?)

Arno,

you does not give informations about the version/distro used; and
trusting a 2011's link is a bit weird.

Look at how to access PEAP nowadays:

Title:
  ntpdate.dhcp always ignored

Status in NTP:
  New
Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Ubuntu 9.04, affects the ntpdate binary package

Problem: Using dhcp a file ntpdate.dhcp is created but never used.

By default NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF in /etc/default/ntpdate is set to
"yes". This has the following consequences:

/usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian parses /etc/default/ntpdate and checks for
  /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf if
NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is set to yes. By default ntpd is not installed
therefore there is no /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf or
/etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf. ntpdate-debian then defaults to the
NTPSERVERS set in /etc/default/ntpdate, namely "ntp.ubuntu.com". Only
if NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is set to "no" there will be a check for
/etc/default/ntpdate.dhcp and consequently the server supplied by dhcp
  be used.

I propose to set NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF to "no" by default. If ntpd is
installed, this will override the use of ntpdate and
/etc/ntpd.conf.dhcp and /etc/default/ntpdate.dhcp will both be created
by DHCP anyway, therefore both packages will use the DHCP supplied
  servers in any case.

choice between no data or data activated (with the last data activated
  state (2g only or 2G,3G,4G).

Why this ? Because it's the first setting to change to save battery,
and probably one of the most used (I asked around me, everyone agreed
they would prefer that over Wi-Fi if only one was possible).

I think it's stupid to go to the settings app for the most common
action (and very frustrating). Of course, this also apply for the
battery setting page (that already contain Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and
  brightness settings).

I asked that on the phone ML, I've been invited to file a wishlist bug
there to "help" designers with next iteration of network indicator. So
  here it is !

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578319] Re: Some ubuntu-ui-toolkit AP tests failing to launch - rejected by unity8 as is using desktop_file_hint

2016-05-05 Thread Michael Terry
So a simple fix would be to ship ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery.desktop in
/usr/share/applications.

Another fix would be modify ubuntu-ui-toolkit-launcher to allow teaching
UAL about a custom app on a temporary basis for such custom launches
that aren't apps that we want to ship, but just apps-of-convenience. To
do this, it could copy the provided desktop file into
~/.local/share/applications and delete it when done.

OR we could add API to UAL that allows using a custom desktop file.

I'm partial to options 1 and/or 2.

be resolved with
  https://code.launchpad.net/~gerboland/qtmir/ual-catch-exception/+merge/293805

That causes unity8 to report it rejects some of the test apps the UITK
  AP test tries to launch:

  qtmir.applications: ApplicationController::createApp - UAL failed to
create app for appId "ubuntu-ui-toolkit-gallery" : Invalid app ID:

desktop_file_hint is not a supported means of launching an app (and
can go away at any time), so UITK should change to use UAL in its AP

This indeed used to work until recently, but a recent refactoring
broke the desktop_file_hint behaviour. Since it's not a supported

UITK than restore the old behaviour.

Bug description:
Unity8 can't display multi-surface apps (including menus and
  tooltips).

Fixing bug 1497085 was a great start. However instead of crashing
Unity8 now just shows the most recently created window by the app in
the apps /single window/, and stretches it too. When such a secondary
window like a menu or tooltip closes, you never get back to the
original app window. So existing apps still aren't quite usable yet.

  Test case:
  sudo apt-get install mir-demos
  mir_demo_client_multiwin -- --desktop_file_hint=unity8

Expected: Three windows (red, green, blue)
  Observed: Only the blue window

You can also experience the same bug with lots of apps via: Xmir
  -rootless under Unity8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578663] [NEW] create DHCP exit hook for setting NTP servers

2016-05-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Similar to /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/ntpdate, we should ship a
DHCP exit hook for timesyncd to update the timesyncd configuration in
/run/systemd/timesyncd.conf.d/01-dhclient.conf to set the picked up NTP
servers, and restart timesyncd.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576726] Re: [SRU]network-manager

2016-05-05 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
With this proposed package, System76 is seeing network-manager crash
upon the first resume from suspend. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'll be looking into this more today.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Xenial was released with upstream beta2 version of network-manager to keep in
time for the release schedule, and upstream stable release has been made so
it's time to update to it.

  [Testcase]
After upgrading the package, user should still be able to connect to networks
like Ethernet, Wi-Fi and VPNs.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small because there is not big
changes made during beta2 -> stable process.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1561090] Re: Not obvious when you can scroll a dialog’s contents

Title:
Not obvious when you can scroll a dialog’s contents

Status in Ubuntu UX:
  New
Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  1. Create a dialog that has “Cancel” and “OK” buttons, and other contents
that make it too tall to fit in some situations — for example, on a phone in
landscape mode with the OSK present.
  2. Open the dialog in that situation.

What you see: Unless a particular control is only partly visible,
there is no obvious clue that the dialog is scrollable.

What you should see: A visible border at the edge(s) that the dialog
  can currently be scrolled in.

   (currently Canonical-only link, sorry): “In
addition to a scroller, the body area should have a visible top/bottom
border whenever you are not scrolled to the top/bottom, indicating
that the area is scrollable in that direction.”

This is a sequel to bug 1376763. It may save time to fix this bug at
the same time as bug 1561082.
