Title:
improve UTC setting migration on upgrades

Status in sysvinit package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in sysvinit source package in Xenial:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
On upgrade, some users who have selected a non-default setting for their
clock handling in the installer will see prompts for a conffile they never
edited by hand.

  [Regression potential]
Because we are adding a pre-dependency to a package, there is risk of this
causing upgrade failures. The upgrade path should be tested aggressively with
different profiles from both 14.04 and 15.10 before publishing to -updates.

  [Test case]
  1. On a newly-installed 14.04 system, edit /etc/default/rcS to contain
'UTC=no' instead of 'UTC=yes'. Make no other changes to this file.
  2. Enable -proposed in your apt sources.
  3. Run do-release-upgrade or update-manager to upgrade to 16.04.
  4. Confirm that the upgrade succeeds.
  5. Confirm that you are not shown a conffile prompt for /etc/default/rcS on
upgrade.
  6. Confirm that /etc/adjtime has been created, with 'LOCAL' as the third line
of the file.
  7. Repeat steps 1-6 for a newly-installed 15.10 system.

slangasek | pitti: I see sysvinit Breaks: systemd (<< 228-5ubuntu3), but that
doesn't enforce systemd 228-5ubuntu3 being configured before sysvinit, which
means the conffile may already be migrated away before systemd postinst runs...
I think the right way to do this is with initscripts Pre-Depends: systemd, and
for initscripts' preinst script to handle any conffile cleaning so that users
are spared conffile prompts on upgrade
pitti | slangasek: ah, good point; this needs to be tested thoroughly,
pre-depends have some habit of causing trouble

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"

2016-04-21 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
@seb128, thanks for releasing the fix, but it appears that not all the patch
from comment #36 was applied:
- auth_self
- auth_self
+ yes
+ yes

is still "auth_self" in accountsservice 0.6.40-2ubuntu10,
and I think that it takes priority over , so the problem
still persists and can be reproduced as described in comment #36.

Could you please re-release the fix while applying the whole patch?
Thank you!

cross to close the window many times it will be gone, but reappear a few days
later. I don't know what this window is for and it makes no difference whether
I close it or leave it. I don't use the gnome keyring.

there in Ubuntu 15.10, also on machines I did a fresh install.

change which cause the regression is this one:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~tpeeters/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/invisible-
  header-topmargin/+merge/290659

Run the attached test case with QML scene. You can scroll the view
horizontally to see the other model items. Under the old version of
the toolkit, all items have their page headers correctly aligned; with
the new version, an extra spacing is added below the header.

I found this bug while testing my ttrss app in rc-proposed; please
don't let this UITK version reach our users, as more apps might be
  affected.

Previously, the offset persisted the ntp update. I don't know if this

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572525] Re: [regression] Double header height is set as flickable topMargin

2016-04-21 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi Tim, I attached a branch which should give you an idea of how I think
the problem can be solved. Beware, I didn't test it and it's not
complete (it doesn't adjust contentY yet), it's just to be used as a
starting point.

In that branch I'm attaching some extra data to the flickable (using
setProperty; but other methods, such a static
QHash are also possible -- I used setProperty
because then I don't have to care about memory management):
- The original value of topMargin, before any header was bound to the flickable
- The number of headers currently bound to the flickable

This makes it easy to restore the flickable's margin once the last
header detaches from it.

Please let me know if you'd like me to continue working on this branch, or if
you'd like to take it over yourself, or if you completely disagree with this
solution. I don't see any reason why something like this wouldn't work but, as
I wrote, I didn't test it, so maybe I'm missing some big point.

Title:
[regression] Double header height is set as flickable topMargin

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Incomplete
Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Th attached test application works fine under qml-module-ubuntu-
components 1.3.1918+16.04.20160404-0ubuntu3 but breaks with the latest
1.3.1938+16.04.20160416. At a first examination, I believe that the
change which cause the regression is this one:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~tpeeters/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/invisible-
  header-topmargin/+merge/290659

Run the attached test case with QML scene. You can scroll the view
horizontally to see the other model items. Under the old version of
the toolkit, all items have their page headers correctly aligned; with
the new version, an extra spacing is added below the header.

I found this bug while testing my ttrss app in rc-proposed; please
don't let this UITK version reach our users, as more apps might be
  affected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1566998] Re: Wrong time when using automatic setting

2016-04-21 Thread neclepsio
The file was missing. It now works. Thank you very much. But since it's
a common case, why it isn't handled correctly by default? I never had
problems with previous versions.

I could not test if ntp works because I have no network connection now.
Previously, the offset persisted the ntp update. I will let you know as
soon as possible.

Since OTA-10, the messaging-app has become very difficult to use. It

mostly when long pressing some keys to reveal other letters, and maybe
while checking the spelling. Reboots are ineffective, and the OSK
works fine everywhere else (Browser, Dekko). That's why I filed this

Same behaviour, also on BQ 4.5

For me the pauses when inputting text are short (maybe half a second).
During the short freeze, there is no feedback when pressing letters and
nothing appears on the screen. After the freeze, all the selected
letters suddenly appear.

Title:
OSK in messaging-app is very slow

Status in messaging-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since OTA-10, the messaging-app has become very difficult to use. It
appears sluggish in general but the main problem is that the OSK is
unresponsive and pauses sometimes for 2 seconds. I think it happens
mostly when long pressing some keys to reveal other letters, and maybe
while checking the spelling. Reboots are ineffective, and the OSK
works fine everywhere else (Browser, Dekko). That's why I filed this
  against the messaging-app.

I use the bq 4.5. Let me know if I can provide any more info!

This was not the case a few months ago, so we clearly regressed here.

Status in Canonical System Image:
  In Progress
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  STEPS:
Requirements: Aquaris E4.5, Jabra BT250 blue tooth handset device (rather old
one supports blue tooth 1.1 and therefore I thought should be no issue) or Audi
car kit (A3 2012 model)

  1. Put Jabra BT250 into receiving mode
  2. Phone searches automatically every 15 - 30 seconds for a new blue tooth
device
  3. Phone finds Jabra BT250 and asks for pairing code
  4. Enter code into phone
  5. Jabra BT250 automatically exits the pairing mode (which is a sign that
pairing should have worked)
  6. Phone looses connection to Jabra BT250
  7. Manual reconnection via phone works (shows Jabra BT250 as being connected)
but ignores the device

Same behaviour with Audi car kit (Audi A3, 2012 model)

  EXPECTED:
I expect that the blue tooth kits work similar to my Seat Alhambra (also 2012
model) where the blue tooth pairing etc. works great (except some bugs which
are already filed).

  ACTUAL:
No connection to the blue tooth device

  VERSIONS:
  OS-Build-Number: 25
  Ubuntu-Image: 20150825.1

  POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSE:
Is this issue also solved as soon as bluez5 is implemented? When will this be?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1435040] Re: Ubuntu Phone (BQ E4.5) does not connect to car-bluetooth

2016-04-21 Thread Mathias Hasselmann
I believe this most likely is a race, when two paired devices try to
reestablish the connection at the same time:

When entering the car, but the HMI and the phone indicate they try connecting
and it usually fails.
Still after some minutes it happens, that only one side tries to initiate the
connection (didn't check who actually does, car or phone) and then the
connection usually gets established.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572938] Re: Connected to wifi, the indicator behaves odly

2016-04-21 Thread Set Hallstrom
After reboot, the wifi icon is there. But when i restart the net-work
manager, i get the Ethernet icon again and the list of wifi-networks in
range is gone again.

Steps to reproduce:

- Click on the wifi icon in the indicator
- Uncheck "Enable Networking"
- Check "Enable Networking"

Result: The Network-manager reconnects to the network, but gives no list
of networks in range and the icon is the one for Ethernet.

Expected result: The Network-manager reconnects to the network, shows
list of networks in range and the icon is the one for Ethernet wifi.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572943] [NEW] Token::isValid() returns true on invalid tokens

but apparently some broken third-party init.d script.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572939] Re: X11 forwarding slows down client

2016-04-21 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
** Description changed:

X11 forwarding slows down Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity desktop whose whole
graphic interface (including mouse pointer) repeatedly becomes
unresponsive for seconds if `ssh -X` or `ssh -X -C` is used. The
symptoms are the same as if the system were using slow swap space which
isn't the case (verified with `htop` in another tty which can still be
changed). This wasn't the case in previous unknown versions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572752] Re: improve UTC setting migration on upgrades

2016-04-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Martin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted sysvinit into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/2.88dsf-59.3ubuntu3 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: sysvinit (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Status: Triaged => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed

Title:
improve UTC setting migration on upgrades

Status in sysvinit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in sysvinit source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
On phablet devices, Autopilot needs to determine the absolute
coordinates of any item on screen, in order to generate input events
  to interact with those items.

Most toolkits give AP the ability to calculate the coordinates of an
item inside the surface, i.e. relative to the surface top-left corner,
and then obtain the position of the window from the display server
(X11 usually) to calculate the absolute position.

However Mir does not have an API to let its clients find the surface
position relative to the screen. There is also a desire from the Mir
team not to supply this information.

We need to discuss how to solve this problem in a way everyone is
  happy

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572970] [NEW] Add info about report source machine to reporter

2016-04-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If a reporter runs very similar machines on client and server with the
same Ubuntu version and reports an issue against a (meta-)package which
manages both client and server functionality (e.g. `samba`), it's hard
to tell if the issue has been reported on on the server or client
machine if `ubuntu-bug` was used to create the report.

Displaying the hostname (which isn't always included in uploaded
information) or a machine ID which is only visible for the logged in
reporter would help.

A frequent source of failure that's probably accumulating to quite a bit of
overhead in CI runs is flake8 errors. Less so are obvious syntax or type errors
in QML at runtime, nevertheless it would seem like a good idea to verify that.
I'm proposing to add these to make check so they can be caught much earlier
on the developer's machine.

Public bug reported:

Tests that may segfault but usually don't should be treated much the same as
tests that may have warnings when added to EXCEPTIONS.
Case in point bug 1567840. datepicker tests only fail under very specific
circumstances or with special environment variables. Assuming they always crash
effectively erases test coverage until there's a fix. If they could be treated
like having warnings on the other hand they would run fine in most cases.

** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
 Assignee: Christian Dywan (kalikiana)
 Status: Fix Committed

** Branch linked: lp:~ubuntu-sdk-team/ubuntu-ui-
toolkit/SEGFAULTingUnitTestsOptional

Not sure if unity8 will be doing anything here - we'll be setting the
scale property on the surface and XMir needs to pass it down somehow.

  5. Double click on the setup for end user
  6. Add the oem password
  7. Reboot
  8. In End user setup note that AP are available (/!\ again do not connect to
one)
  9. Complete the end user setup
  10. Login to the enduser session
  11. Note No wifi available.

  EXPECTED:
Wifi to be available for the enduser

  ACTUAL:
Wifi is available at all points until the end user desktop session is
available. On reboot of the machine wifi is then functioning as normal. Just

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1552410] Re: Cannot pair mako with 2014 Subaru Forester

2016-04-21 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
The Ubuntu System Settings log contains such a warning:

14:15:08,530 - WARNING - file:///usr/share/ubuntu/settings/system/qml-
plugins/bluetooth/DevicePage.qml:156: TypeError: Cannot read property
'paired' of null

This corresponds to the pairing request that has been issued at the same
time.

14:15:08 ubuntu-phablet bluetoothd[2278]:
src/device.c:bonding_request_new() Requesting bonding for
38:C0:96:BC:D1:10

Which basically means that the user has clicked one of the discovered
devices on the devices list. This triggers the pairing request.

The error from the Ubuntu System Settings also means that the
selectedDevice property has not been properly updated. This is set based
on the device address and the query goes down to the devices model
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~system-settings-touch/ubuntu-system-
settings/trunk/view/head:/plugins/bluetooth/devicemodel.cpp#L564. And it
can fail only if there is no device of such address on an internal
devices list. This list is updated with addDevice() call
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~system-settings-touch/ubuntu-system-
settings/trunk/view/head:/plugins/bluetooth/devicemodel.cpp#L497.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573015] [NEW] xenial cloudimage with missing hostname on hosts

2016-04-21 Thread Luis Ferro
Public bug reported:

Install Vagrant / Virtualbox

On Terminal run:

$> vagrant init

Edit the Vagrantfile to change the box name from "base" to
"ubuntu/xenial64"

Then on the terminal again do:

$> vagrant up

After installing do:

$> vagrant ssh

$> sudo su

You will get a message stating: "sudo: unable to resolve host ubuntu-
xenial"

The reason for this message is because the entry on /etc/hostname (which
have "ubuntu-xenial") doesn't exist on /etc/hosts

To Fix:

Edit the /etc/hosts:

$> sudo vim /etc/hosts (for instance)

And on the entry:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Change to:

127.0.0.1 localhost ubuntu-xenial

** Affects: hostname (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1572653] Re: keyboard does not show up on xenial

2016-04-21 Thread Michael Sheldon
Hi Daniel,

What application are you testing with? I've just checked with

QT_IM_MODULE=maliitphablet qmlscene

And clicking the filename text input causes the keyboard to display
correctly on Xenial for me.

Thanks,
 Mike

  What happens:

Running maliit-server after installing ubuntu-keyboard-english in
  terminal shows following error:

  WARNING: void MIMPluginManagerPrivate::_q_setActiveSubView(const
  QString&, Maliit::HandlerState) "libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so" "en" is

Clicking on fields for entering text, does not cause the keyboard to

  What I tried so far:

  export QT_IM_MODULE=Maliit
  export GTK_IM_MODULE=Maliit

  and

  gconftool-2 -s --type list --list-type string /maliit/onscreen/enabled
"[llibubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"

"[libubuntu-keyboard-plugin.so,en_gb]"

but it still won't show up.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1564156] Re: xenial: invalid opcode when using llvmpipe

2016-04-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Jason, or anyone else affected,

Accepted llvm-toolchain-3.8 into xenial-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-
toolchain-3.8/1:3.8-2ubuntu3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Thank you in
advance!

Bug description:
Currently it's impossible to install from xenial-desktop-amd64.iso on
a wide range of hardware with Nvidia GPUs.

The problem is invalid opcode(s) when using llvmpipe (the software
opengl fallback, used when using Unity with the Nouveau driver). The
result is that compiz crashes over and over; Upstart will continue to
restart compiz till it gives up. To confirm whether this bug is
happening, switch to a VT and check dmesg, in which you'll see
  something like:

  [ 2092.557913] traps: compiz[10155] trap invalid opcode
  ip:7efc940030d4 sp:7ffccd914ea0 error:0

A workable solution seems to be to re-build mesa against llvm-3.6-dev,
libclang-3.6-dev (rather that 3.8). This would get us a working Xenial
ISO for the effected hardware. Post 16.04 release, this could be
revisited, and mesa in Xenial could possibly switch back to llvm 3.8
  once this issue is resolved.

I have mesa test packages built against llvm 3.6 here:

  https://launchpad.net/~jderose/+archive/ubuntu/mesa/+packages

  I couldn't test the installation without a re-spun ISO, but I did
confirm that after updating to the mesa packages in my PPA, I could
again use Unity. So I'm pretty sure this will fix installing from the
  ISO as well.

My hunch is that llvm 3.8 is generating invalid code during its JIT
compilation for llvmpipe, but it could also be the result of memory
corruption. Either way, building mesa against llvm 3.6 seems to be
  quick the fix.

Note this is a regression from 14.04.4 and 15.10, both of which
install fine on the hardware effected by this bug.

For concrete examples of System76 hardware effected by this:

  1) All Skylake laptops with 970m, 980m, and 980gtx GPUs

  2) All Skylake and Haswell-E desktops with 970gtx and 980gtx GPUs
(although strangely, things seem to work with when you connect to a
monitor over HDMI, but always fails when connecting to a monitor over
  DisplayPort)

Note that none of the above failed tested scenarios are using Optimus:
all are using discrete GPU configurations.

In my testing thus far on the effected hardware, the install always
fails if you choose "Try Ubuntu without installing". The install
usually seems to work when you choose "Install Ubuntu", but even this
2nd scenario sometimes fails (and when it does, you'll see the same
"trap invalid opcode" bits in dmesg).

Also note that so far I've only tested amd64, haven't tested i386.

I suspect there is some deeper weirdness here, but at this point
System76 is just trying to make sure we have a Xenial ISO from which
  customers can re-install Ubuntu.

  Old description
  ===
Currently Unity on Xenial is unusable when the llvmpipe software fallback is
used, at least on certain hardware.

  For example, from dmesg:

  [ 2092.557913] traps: compiz[10155] trap invalid opcode ip:7efc940030d4
sp:7ffccd914ea0 error:0

Udev rule causes automatic incorrect unmount of dm device

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in systemd package in Fedora:

Bug description:
  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd'

Description: Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (development b ranch)

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
  pkgname'

  systemd:
Installed: 229-3ubuntu1
Candidate: 229-3ubuntu1

  3) What you expected to happen

I am testing our E-Series Netapp storage array and the ability of the
server to failover IO to the secondary path. I pull a cable and allow
DM-MP to fail the path and route IO down the other path. I then
replug the cable and repeat for the other path.

I expect that the failover to occur and for the mount points to stay
  mounted through the operation.

  4) What happened instead

I see in the system log that during the test systemd tries to perform
an unmount operation on the mountpoint of the dm-device(s) that have
lost an underlying path. The unmount fails, I assume because there is
active IO at the time. However it should not be attempted in the
  first place.

I believe this is related to the bug that we discovered in RHEL and
SLES that can be seen in this redhat commit:

  https://github.com/lnykryn/systemd-
  rhel/commit/d77ced281c6d1f47b5dfc3abff6817d8f5756af9

Our testing of RHEL seems to indicate that this patch resolved our
  problem.

Bug description:
I've seen this a couple of times now:

When an app, or the whole system crashes/runs out of battery or
similar, it can mess up the qml cache for apps. The app then won't
start any more until the qml cache is deleted manually, or eventually
some update of the app is rolled out that makes the cache realize it
is out of date. This manifests itself in the app sitting there on the
splash screen or just being white and never finish loading.

Admittedly this does not happen very often, however, the problem is
that there is no way out of this for a normal user. Once a user runs
into this situation, the app is basically non existent any more.
Neither rebooting the phone, nor reinstalling the app resolves the
situation. Currently I know of a customer which can't launch the
telegram app until we meet end of march because I can't instruct her
to use the terminal to clear the qml cache...

Bug description:
[IMPACT] By default, the Ubuntu kernel uses deadline. Google has
identified that Cloud Workloads running on Ubuntu perform better using
NOOP as the default scheduler. Google has requested that Google Cloud
Compute (GCE) instances use NOOP as the default.

[FIX] Add udev rule for GCE devices to use NOOP by default.

  [VALIDATION]
  1. Boot Ubuntu instance on Google GCE
  2. Confirm that the scheduler is deadline:
 $ cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
 noop [deadline] cfq
  3. Install proposed udev package
  4. Reboot
  5. Confirm that schedule is now noop
 $ cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
[noop] deadline cfq

[RISK] This patch will affect currently running instances and on
reboot they should see better performance. However, there is a risk
that some users will experience a performance hit.

  [ORIGINAL REPORT]

Per Google's request, Ubuntu instances should use NOOP as the default
  scheduler.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573098] [NEW] Keep authentication dialogs open until authentication completes

2016-04-21 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

Currently, when performing a reauthentication request the dialog stays
open only for the time needed to capture the user input; once the user
has confirm the data, the dialog is immediately closed, and the data is
being sent back to the authentication plugin.

However, it may happen that the authentication plugin is able to verify
whether the data is correct or not (actually, in most cases it is
--UbuntuOne, ownCLoud, OAuth...), and in case it's not correct it
typically asks for another signon UI dialog to be opened, to request the
new data.

To avoid re-popping up dialogs every time, it might be a better user
experience if we keep the dialog open, with the fields disabled and a
spinner running, until the authentication plugin has completed the
operation.

This could be implemented with no changes to authentication plugins:
instead, we would just modify signond to always call the cancel method
on signon UI once it gets the result from the authentication plugin.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1567877] Re: App installation has become quite unreliable

2016-04-21 Thread Pat McGowan
Similar symptom getting a system update, it said it downloaded the
entire size of the update but never switched to install until I left the
page and re-entered it. I wonder if we are missing signals from the
download manager.

Bug description:
Recently the app installation seems to have degraded quite a lot in
reliability. In most cases I need to trigger an installation twice or
even three times in order to succeed.

For instance just now I wanted to install the untappd scope. On the
first attempt I clicked on the Install button and nothing happened
except that the page became inactive. The progress spinner at the
bottom was still spinning, but all the page content was disabled. The
progress bar never appeared. Eventually I had to press the back button
and then reenter the page. I clicked install again, the progress bar
started. While waiting I've read through the comments, when I scrolled
up to the top again, the progress bar was at 0% and would not move any
more at all. Again, I had to press the back button and re-entered the
page. On the third attempt it succeeded (except the issue that the
progress bar again reverted to 0% after scrolling it out of view and
back in, but eventually this time it changed to the open button.

  Attached, scope-registry.log
