[techtalk] Pine and Reply-to
I'm getting, from several different mailing lists including linuxchix, duplicate copies of every post of mine that someone replies to, largely as far as I can see because I can't set a reply-to when I write the mail and the replies therefore get CC'd to my inbox. However, asking about this on my local comp.advice newsgroup started an argument: one person said it's the list admin's responsibility, another said it's my job to filter them out, and yet a third wanted to know what the first two were on about and why on earth couldn't people just be more careful about pruning the headers before they hit Send. With regard to linuxchix, what's accepted policy? Vicky [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org

I'd love to, but this version of Pine doesn't _have_ replyall. It prompts you when you hit reply; if you choose the replyall option, it replies to the sender with a CC to the mailing list; if not you only get the sender. It also prompts for reply-to headers, although you can set it to default to using them. Somewhere in the config file there's an option to 'use sender not x-sender', which may affect that in some way, but I'm not sure how; there is also an 'always use reply-to' option. I can arrange filters on sender because the Pine in question is running on the uni mailservers, which are all nicely configured with a menu system to organise filters, blocking, vacation messages and so on. Whilst i'd be interested to know what that fist config option does, the rest of it looks very much like it's up to me... > Certainly the list admin can't do anything about it once the end user has > hit their preferred 'reply' button. And (namedrop ;) I happen to know him, so if you've got any feature requests, pass them on to me! There is one important point: apparently it's not legal to use PuTTY in the US at the moment due to laws restricting the import and export of strong encryption. I'll check that but I believe it's the case. For those of you outside the States, though, I'd recommend PuTTY as it's very configurable and pretty fast too. [techtalk] Soft power and SuSE?
Well, after a rather expensive weekend, my dear little beige cuboid has a brand new motherboard, processor and case *grin* Question is, the case now has soft power, and I'd like to configure my kernel (2.2.10, distro is SuSE 6.2) to use it properly, ie. power off on shutdown etc. Can anyone tell me what I need to compile into the kernel to do this? Many thanks! Vicky [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org
[techtalk] SuSE and soft power again
...well, we've tried flashing the BIOS. Halt achieves a reboot (same as it did before) rather than the system powering down. Any suggestions, eg. kernel versions to use etc? My current kernel is 2.2.10- someone did suggest something about kernels before but I've lost the message, unfortunately. Vicky -- Lost, one signature, fails to answer to its name.
