[techtalk] OpenLDAP 2.0 and Courier IMAP
Heya all :) We are setting up a mailsystem for ~200k users now. We will use LDAP to store the user information in, and we have originally decided to use Courier IMAP 1.3.1 (newest version) as IMAP/POP daemons. The mail will be stored in maildir format. The problem is that we are using OpenLDAP 2.0.7 (due to technical reasons) and it seems like courier IMAP don't support authentication via OpenLDAP 2.0. Does anyone have any ideas or tips about how to solve this problem? Using OpenLDAP 2.0 is a permanent decision, as is mail in maildirs, while what IMAP/POP daemon to use may be changed if possible (the combination of maildirs and authentications via LDAP may be problematic...). (The system will run on RedHat 6.2, on several IBM Netfinity 5xxx-servers.) Magni :) -- sash is very good for you. ___ techtalk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linux.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/techtalk
[techtalk] strange SSL issue
We have a secure server running RH7.0, using the SSL inherent in RH7.0, which uses mod_ssl, (which uses OpenSSL, from what I understand) with Apache. On certain web browers (IE 5 for certain), no images show up in secure mode, and the SSL service does not work. Not ALL IE5 browsers, however. I discovered that if you download the service pack for IE5.01 and install it, the problem goes away. Now, my question is, is this a bug in Apache/OpenSSL, or is this just a browser bug? Either way, it's bad because ALOT of people use IE 5 right now. I can't seem to narrow down exactly what bug fix in the service pack fixes the problem. Has anyone else encountered this and found a patch for it on the Apache/OpenSSL end that will not involve customers having to tell people how to fix their IE5? I have also been told that AOL has the same problem, but cannot confirm this, or confirm which version of AOL is doing this. If anyone has heard of this, and knows what it could be, I would be overjoyed. I have searched through bug databases, etc, and have found no evidence of this problem. Perhaps I overlooked something? [techtalk] DNS Dilemma continues :``` (
Well, NSI is now reporting that my two domain servers are: NS3.KATHWEB.NET 24.189.168.161 NS2.KATHWEB.NET 207.127.75.180 Yippee. But now, still if I type kathweb.net in nslookup, it says *** ...can't find kathweb.net: Non-existent host/domain Now, could it be that these two DNS servers have not propagated to all the root servers? Should I just wait it out and see? - kath
Re: [techtalk] strange SSL issue
while i've never seen the missing image issue, the ssl problems are an ie thing. as far as i remember, ie was not correctly determining whether the site was requesting ssl 2.0 or 3.0, and thus would not work. i have heard that in some cases this can be fixed by manually specifying the ssl version in the "internet options" -> "advanced" -> "security" section of ie, but in our case we had to require that users upgrade their browser. i know this answer isn't very helpful, but hopefully it's a start. :) marisa On Fri, Jan 26, 2001 at 09:03:25AM -0500, amy sed: > > We have a secure server running RH7.0, using the > SSL inherent in RH7.0, which uses mod_ssl, > (which uses OpenSSL, from what I understand) > with Apache. I can ping www.kathweb.net from two different machines. Can you guys ping it? However, I can't ping regular vanilla "kathweb.net" nor can I do a nslookup on "kathweb.net" - Kath

Heya -- > I can ping www.kathweb.net from two different machines. Can you guys > ping it? > > However, I can't ping regular vanilla "kathweb.net" nor can I do a > nslookup on "kathweb.net" You have to have a record in your db file pointing at a blank name (to which the default domain is automagically appended -- so it will resolve just kathweb.net as opposed to www.kathweb.net.). I'd suggest just CNAMEing it. Add that record and you should be fine. Cheers, Raven = "Empty your heart of its mortal dream. We're driving up Wed-Sat and will be at the IDG booth on Thursday promoting the new LPIC book that we're writing. I dread the drive but think it will be worth it.
