IF it is a brand new N82, straight out of the box, and it has never been
used before than the date adn time will need to be set first. Since that is
a 9.2 phone the order of things that need to be set up is as follows: city,
date, and time. You can press soft key 1 to skip the city part, for the date
I would use something like 07/07/2013 for now since the day and month could
be reversed depending on what firmware it has... press soft key 1 once this
is done. You can then press soft key 1 again to skip the time. All of these
can be reset later in the clock and date settings. Once this is done than
you should be able to connect the USB cable however, I can't remember the
order in which the options for this come up so you may have to give it a
couple tries, arrowing down each time... unless someone else here remembers
what order the options are in.

I have a friend who has a new n82.
unfortunately when he plugs the data cable from the phone to the PC there
seems to be no connection. the cable is functioning ok, and he did press
key1 to acknowledge the connection, no joy.
is there a setting in the phone which needs to be switched on.
