only one TALKS file, so don't know if it's the third or fifth edition. The
only files apart from the manuals were:

There is only one zip file. The file has both the 3rd edition and 5th
edition install file. There is also the Talks dictionary to put in the
correct place on your phone. So read the information on the blind sea web
site before using the zip file. That away you have a better idea of what
needs to be done.

Hi Andy,

You can download it in a zip file from Blindsea and then unzip and install
on your phone. Make sure you download the one with a 3 in it.

Thanks for this, Allan.

Just looking at the Skype website, it says:

It's free to use Skype in a WiFi zone. If you use Skype with a mobile data
connection, operator charges may apply, so we recommend an unlimited data
plan.

So as long as I can find a free wifi cafe or similar in Morocco, then I
should be ok.

In terms of downloading the software for my mobile, it wants me to do it
via
my phone in an sms. I don't know how large the programme is, but not
having

a data plan, would rather download via my PC to avoid data charges from
T-Mobile.

Hi again Stephen - Sorry. My error was to think I'd find these other files

Can you confirm for me that my N82 is a third edition and not fifth edition

When I come to install the dictionary file to work with Skype, do I just

I'm not Stephen, but the N82 is not a 5th edition phone. I'd have to
check the specs myself, but I would guess that it is a 3rd edition
phone, as opposed to say a 2nd edition phone. I'm not sure how old the
N82 is, but like I said, it's absolutely definitely not a 5th edition phone.

you can use skype with wifi connection, but not sure which phone you
are

using. your operator will not charge you if you connect
using wifi.

Hi again Stephen - Sorry. My error was to think I'd find these other files
in the TALKS.zip folder, but have now found them in their own Skype.zip
folder.

Can you confirm for me that my N82 is a third edition and not fifth edition
phone?

When I come to install the dictionary file to work with Skype, do I just
install it in the TALKS folder?

That is correct, it is a 3rd edition phone. On the blind sea web site, it
states where to place the file in order for Talks to pick it up. It also states

[Talks] talks problems

2011-01-07 Thread Tasha Raella Chemel
hi, I just installed talks on my nokia e5 and am having several problems. to my
knowledge, the phone has the latest firmware, and i'm using the latest version
of talks.
the problems

1. I can open a blank word doc using quick office premier, but I can't open a
long word doc that's on the phone. When I do, the phone stops speaking
completely until i exit quick office. this isn't because i'm not in edit mode;
i think i am, and it's still not working.
I was able to read this same long doc on my e71x.
2. Eloquence sounds really bad on the phone, like the sampling rate is bad or
something. it sounded much better on my e71x, which i am trying to replace.

3. when using the nokia email client, there is no easy way to find an
attachment in an email, since scrolling through it doesn't seem to find it
reliably.
any help with these would be appreciated.

thanks,
tasha

Hi all - I now have Skyped installed, and an account set up, via my phone.

Need to go online now and buy some credit. not sure how much to buy as I
can't find out how much it is to call the UK from Morocco. The hotel has
wifi, but not for free, and I don't know if there are free wifi cafes
anywhere to be had. Is there a difference between wifi and lan? -

hi,
i can try to answer your 2nd and 3rd question, but not sure about the 1st one.

2. Eloquence sounds really bad on the phone, like the sampling rate is bad or
something. it sounded much better on my e71x, which i
am trying to replace.

this is due to Nokia has changed the sound device on their latest 3rd edition
phones, therefore the sound may not be as good as
those older 3rd edition phones. device that effected with this changes are
C5-00, E5-01, X5-00 and 6700 slide.

3. when using the nokia email client, there is no easy way to find an
attachment in an email, since scrolling through it doesn't
seem to find it reliably. any help with these would be appreciated.

this is also part of the problem due to nokia did some changes on the OS.
hopefully up coming talks will fix these limitation.

hi,
i can try to answer your 2nd and 3rd question, but not sure about the 1st
one.

2. Eloquence sounds really bad on the phone, like the sampling rate is bad
or something. it sounded much better on my e71x, which i

am trying to replace.

this is due to Nokia has changed the sound device on their latest 3rd
edition phones, therefore the sound may not be as good as
those older 3rd edition phones. device that effected with this changes are
C5-00, E5-01, X5-00 and 6700 slide.

3. when using the nokia email client, there is no easy way to find an
attachment in an email, since scrolling through it doesn't

seem to find it reliably. any help with these would be appreciated.

this is also part of the problem due to nokia did some changes on the OS.
hopefully up coming talks will fix these limitation.

hi, I just installed talks on my nokia e5 and am having several problems. to
my knowledge, the phone has the latest firmware, and

i'm using the latest version of talks.
the problems

1. I can open a blank word doc using quick office premier, but I can't
open a long word doc that's on the phone. When I do, the
phone stops speaking completely until i exit quick office. this isn't
because i'm not in edit mode; i think i am, and it's still not

working.
I was able to read this same long doc on my e71x.

Re: [Talks] talks problems

2011-01-07 Thread Stephen Giggar
I would suggest that you use the VCM voices and you will be happy with how they
soun. They are 16 bit where Eloquence on this handset is running at 8 bit. On
the e71x it could run at 11 bit. The reason Eloquence runs at lower bit rate
has to do with the phones sound card and some of the new functions of that
handset. The other screen reader uses 16 bit voices. This is why i think you
will like the VCM voices. If you are running a trial, then you can install them
and run them with no issues. You can find them on the blind sea web site under
the Mobile Screen reader link.

[Talks] Skype charges

So, can somebody give me some idea of call charges when using a mobile to call

would really help. Anybody called say from the US to Europe, or Africa? Got to
sort this quickly now.

The only problem with overriding the version of Eloquence that comes with Talks
5.01.1. Is you will have problems with making and recieveing calls. Your phone
more then likely could restart and or stop working when a call is made or
recieved. However this hasn't been tested with the latest firmware on that
phone to see if it still exist. If you want to try it, just download talks
4.00.x off the blind sea web site and just install the Eloquence file on your
phone. However before installing it, switch to the Nokia tts. That away you
will not loose speech while the tts is being installed. Then when it is done,
switch back to Eloquence and see how that works.

Re: [Talks] talks problems

2011-01-07 Thread Saqib
Hi. I've tried both screen readers and they both sound great. The
speaker sounds basy and this phone has a better sound quality than my
E71 and E72. Eloquence does sound a bit diffferent on this phone. It
sounds more like the IBM voices that came with the older versions of
Openbook scanning program.

I think the E5 uses the new symbian and if theat is the case the ntalks
isn't going to work that well. It hasn't been fully supported for those

hi, I just installed talks on my nokia e5 and am having several problems. to
my knowledge, the phone has the latest firmware, and i'm using the latest
version of talks.
the problems

1. I can open a blank word doc using quick office premier, but I can't
open a long word doc that's on the phone. When I do, the phone stops
speaking completely until i exit quick office. this isn't because i'm not in
edit mode; i think i am, and it's still not working.
I was able to read this same long doc on my e71x.
2. Eloquence sounds really bad on the phone, like the sampling rate is bad
or something. it sounded much better on my e71x, which i am trying to
replace.

3. when using the nokia email client, there is no easy way to find an
attachment in an email, since scrolling through it doesn't seem to find it
reliably.
any help with these would be appreciated.

thanks,
tasha

[Talks] Talks problems.

2011-01-07 Thread Bernard Hemmings
I read with interest re the problem of opening a large word document on the e5
and how talks stops speaking.
I assume you know you have to switch to edit mode when ever you open a document
press softkey1 twice after opening a document will do this.
I thought I had better test a large word document in my e72 so I chose the e72
user guide which I converted to a doc file. It has 264 pages. I had no
problem opening editing or saving alterations.
I have a 32 gig card in my e72 and have noticed no problems. Large play lists
take slightly longer to load. apart from that there seems to be no difference
between the 16 and 32 gig cards. I still have 24 gigs free so I guess it's
early days yet.

Was the document you were trying to open larger than the average nokia phone
user guide?

NO, IT WASN'T LARGER AT ALL, MAYBE A HUNDRED PAGES. PRESSING SOFT KEY TWICE
DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE THE WHOLE PHONE BECOMES COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. I
CAN'T EVEN SEE WHETHER I'M IN EDIT MODE.

[Talks] (OT) bluetooth portable speakers

2011-01-07 Thread Denise Thompson

Hi folks
Just wanted to mention a product I just purchased. It's the
Altec Lansing Soundblade Stereo Bluetooth Speakers for Bluetooth
Enabled Mobile Phones.
It's all one unit about the size of a netbook computer if you've ever
seen one. Works on both double A batteries or power cord. For the size
and price I think it's a great product. Has really great sound. I've
connected them to two of my cell phones. Took a bit to figure out how
to do it because there wasn't anyone sighted around and there's no
key board to type in a pairing code. I got mine from Amazon, but
they're probably available from other places. Since this is off
topic, better not get into a big discussion about it. Just thought
folks would be interested.

2011-01-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Did you say you could open the files on your PC in Word or IE? If so,
you could probably save them as text files and then move those text
files over to your cell phone to read with a book reader or text
browser/editor. I know it's not very elegant, but just a thought.

No that doesn't mean that. The e71x doesn't use the same software as later
phones and there for can run at the higher bit rate. The e71x uses a non
standard version of Symbian. The e66, e71 also did not have the issue
that later phones have.

right, but if i had 5.0 on the e71x and didn't notice eloquence sounding

The only problem with overriding the version of Eloquence that comes
with
Talks 5.01.1. Is you will have problems with making and recieveing
calls.
Your phone more then likely could restart and or stop working when a
call

is made or recieved. However this hasn't been tested with the latest
firmware on that phone to see if it still exist. If you want to try it,
just download talks 4.00.x off the blind sea web site and just install
the
Eloquence file on your phone. However before installing it, switch to
the

Nokia tts. That away you will not loose speech while the tts is being
installed. Then when it is done, switch back to Eloquence and see how
that
works.

Hi folks
Just wanted to mention a product I just purchased. It's the
Altec Lansing Soundblade Stereo Bluetooth Speakers for Bluetooth
Enabled Mobile Phones.
It's all one unit about the size of a netbook computer if you've
ever seen one. Works on both double A batteries or power cord. For
the size and price I think it's a great product. Has really great
sound. I've connected them to two of my cell phones. Took a bit
to figure out how to do it because there wasn't anyone sighted
around and there's no key board to type in a pairing code. I got
mine from Amazon, but they're probably available from other
places. Since this is off topic, better not get into a big
discussion about it. Just thought folks would be interested.

Re: [Talks] (OT) bluetooth portable speakers

2011-01-07 Thread Bernard Hemmings

they say they work on iphones, mp3 players, PDAS smart phones and so on.
if you can use bluetooth headphones with your device then the speakers
should work. If on the other hand you can only use certain bluetooth
devices with your equipment like the 3g iphone was restricted then you may
have a problem.
I used what Denise typed in as the search string on amazon to find the
speakers. I wonder if they have a built in microphone for phone calls but
as this was not mentioned I doubt this will be the case. Still you never
can tell.

they say they work on iphones, mp3 players, PDAS smart phones and so on.
if you can use bluetooth headphones with your device then the speakers
should work.
Still you never
can tell.

[off topic]
as in iPhone, you can use any bluetooth headset or speaker with the A2DP
profile.
