Re: [RE-wrenches] PVC shingles

2024-07-17 Thread pieter offgridenterprises.org via RE-wrenches
We have installed a few systems on facilities with the type of roofing you are
describing. These roofs have to be treated carefully, my advice is to consult
with the roofing manufacturer and use a manufacturer approved system.
Additionally these type of roofs can be very slippery so be sure to use every
safety precaution.

Subject: [RE-wrenches] PVC shingles

Hello,

I am installing an array on a roof which has, I believe, pvc shingles formed to
look like fake slate. I did a test pilot drill, and it definitely works like
pvc.

I think using standard L-foot flashing should be fine to tuck under them, and
lag into the rafters as usual, unless there is something I'm missing.

Any experience or comments shared would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [RE-wrenches] AES RACK MOUNT

2024-07-17 Thread Michael Morningstar via RE-wrenches
Well, I've only used Discover, Simplifi, EG4, and Fortress. Many, many
hundreds of Discover AES and DL Pros. They just work. I like to take things
apart and the build quality is impressive. I mean really impressive. That
was what I meant by the vehicle comparison. Closed loop perfection. I can
talk to people at Discover who know their product and have a deep
background in off-grid. And Discover came through like no other with the
"Battery Incident" which by the way I need to point out, the battery itself
didn't explode, it leaked gases that combusted and exploded. Simplifi,
lot's of issues. Fortress, issues and hassles getting resolution. And
EG4's, well I've ranted here before about them, low quality product and
crap retailer. As a professional, I'm going to install the highest quality,
professional grade equipment I can. So to answer your question, my
evaluation method is empirically driven.

Re: [RE-wrenches] AES RACK MOUNT

2024-07-17 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar via RE-wrenches
Awesome reliability on the AES 6650's we use with XW. Super easy
installation.
The cons on the new racks are that they are more work to install
compared to the 6650. Two ways to install with Schneider though.
Discover has said they will automate with the internet the install soon.

I would not compare with EG4 as I do not know who is the deep pocket
there with them and they are new on the scene.

[RE-wrenches] Radian overtemp

2024-07-17 Thread Mac Lewis via RE-wrenches
Is there a temp sensor that may be at fault for not sending a fan run
signal to one of the power boards on a Radian 8k? One side doesn't start
the fan, fan tests fine, just no voltage on the plug.

Thanks

[RE-wrenches] just had a thought

2024-07-17 Thread Peter Giroux via RE-wrenches
Wrenchers, hope this does not get me booted but we need a little humor

Just saw a google maps shot of the fairgrounds where Trump spoke this week.
I noticed the roof that the shooter was on faces due south. If they had only
put solar on that roof the guy could not have climbed up to take his shot.
Lesson learned. Might be time to approach those fairground folks about
solar.

[RE-wrenches] Sol-Ark with 800A Service

2024-07-17 Thread Chris Sparadeo via RE-wrenches
Hey there wrenchers,

I am working on a larger project with 6 Sol-Ark 15K units and an 800A
service. The main service conductors are 3 parallel runs of 400 kcmil. I am
wondering how to CT these conductors from the master inverter. Sol Ark tech
support has not been very helpful so far. I have the included 300A CTs
and I do know that they make a 600A CT, but its physical size and
rating aren't a good fit. Does anyone have experience with either a Sol Ark
or third party CT that might fit this 800A configuration?

Kindly,

Chris Sparadeo

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sol-Ark with 800A Service

2024-07-17 Thread david quattro via RE-wrenches
Hi Chris, I’ve asked them if they are compatible with rope CTs and they
aren’t…. Please share the solution you arrive at, as I know I’ll need to
repeat it soon.
