Re: [RE-wrenches] SI 5048 and replacement Lithium Ion battery bank

2020-01-08 Thread Tump
Have you tried Hassan Taylor at SMA? Perhaps the default begin charging
settings of 70% SOC may not be acceptable to the newer battery tech.
Victron has inverters quite similar to the SMA line and their LiFe battery line
along w/ their BMS, performs quite well.
I have used LiFe but Im still NOT sold on them. We, as an industry, have
repeatably been offered the latest & greatest, "were here for the long run”
manufacturers, only to be left holding the unanswered phone. Aquion anyone?
That being said, I really have not found FLA/ AGM battery performance, venting
or installations to be too tough.

[RE-wrenches] NEC 2020 not available as a portable PDF?

2020-01-08 Thread Christopher Warfel

Wrenches,

I was told that the NEC 2020 will not be available as a file. You can
only access on line, or via the book.  Has anyone confirmed this?  It
seems pretty certain.   How many times is one out in the field and needs
to reference the NEC?  Now to do so, you will need the book or a
connection to the Internet.  I am having a hard time believing that NFPA
would be this short-sighted.  Chris

2020-01-08 Thread August Goers
I've heard from multiple sources and confirmed myself that you can't get
the portable pdf of the NEC starting with the 2020 edition. The link that
Lorenzo shared seems to indicate that older versions including 2017 edition
are available in a digital format.

Re: [RE-wrenches] NEC 2020 not available as a portable PDF?

2020-01-08 Thread Sam Haraldson
Although the 2020 version is advertised as being available in a pdf format
there is an asterisk at the end of the page stating, "*One-year online
access to *NEC 2020 Digital* is non-refundable. An Internet connection is
required. (Digital, 2020)". In other words there does not appear to be an
electronic, downloadable version.

NEC 2020 Digital Access 1-Year
When you select a digital product (pdf or digital access), you are
purchasing a license to access NFPA *Information* electronically. To
protect the authenticity of your product, certain restrictions apply.

Re: [RE-wrenches] NEC 2020 not available as a portable PDF?

2020-01-08 Thread Glenn Burt
I have used PDF versions of the previous 3 releases of the NEC extensively. On
my laptops, telephone and tablet, when responding to questions in the field,
from installers, and other inspectors. It takes up no more space when I travel,
and I can do it discretely in a class to confirm or question a statement. I
find it to be much more valuable than a hardcopy in any format.Again, just one
guys opinion.-GlennSent from my 'smart'phone, so please excuse typos and

[RE-wrenches] NEC in PDF format not availaible for 2020

2020-01-08 Thread William Miller
Friends:

I find the PDF version best for my uses. A portable, searchable,
bookmark-able and cut and paste-able resource is essential for my work flow.

I don’t think the NFPA is considering the needs of the field engineer when
eliminating the PDF version. Maybe there are some members of this forum
that have the ear of the NFPA and can put in a word to restore the portable
version.

As an aside, I find it troubling that one has to pay to read any law of the
land. If a society makes rules, they should be freely available for all to
review, free of charge. That is just my altruistic bias.

Re: [RE-wrenches] NEC 2020 not available as a portable PDF?

2020-01-08 Thread Bradley Bassett
The best price I've found for the handbook is at Barnes & Noble. If you go
into the store you have to ask for the internet price. Also at least at my
store they had it behind the counter in case you go looking for it.

 Wrenches,

I was told that the NEC 2020 will not be available as a file. You can
only access on line, or via the book. Has anyone confirmed this? It
seems pretty certain. How many times is one out in the field and
 needs
to reference the NEC? Now to do so, you will need the book or a
connection to the Internet. I am having a hard time believing that
 NFPA
 would be this short-sighted. Chris
