Marco,

Thank you, your timing is perfect. I am working with a utility to get approval
of a StorEdge / Solar Edge combination with Tesla batteries and potentially
export limitation.
The utility has been asking for examples, and this is the first I can bring
them back. HECO territory? Sorry the system isn’t yours, but thanks for
helping pave the way for others!

Any other examples of StorEdge with batteries or SolarEdge or StorEdge using
export limitation would be most helpful, meeting with them on Friday,

[RE-wrenches] SolarEdge 7600 and the Powerwall

2016-06-14 Thread Marco Mangelsdorf
Yes, this install was on Oahu in HECO territory.

HECO, HELCO and MECO have an interconnect agreement known as Customer
Self-Supply (CSS) where the customer-generator is not supposed to export more
than an “inadvertent” amount of surplus power to the grid. For these CSS
systems, battery storage is needed.

Note that there’s been a whopping one CSS system installed to-date by Sunrun.

Re: [RE-wrenches] SolarEdge 7600 and the Powerwall

2016-06-14 Thread Chris Mason
Howie,

The Sonnen Eco16 we installed is very nice equipment. I have previously
used the Radian 8048A inverter but the Sonnen adds a really nice battery
system, nice interface, and a Z-wave energy management system.
The battery system is by Sony and the stats are incredible. !0 year
warranty, 10,000 cycles, discharge to zero without damage, very good
battery management system.
The install was easy enough, connecting the mains cabling is a challenge as
there is very little room, I would definitely have a trough or some kind of
cable management device above the unit. It takes two people, one to guide
the cables into place and one to push them.
The batteries are so light it is surprising, one person can easily carry
them. This alone is enough reason to go Lithium.
I set the minimum battery reserve to 10%, this client wants to use as much
solar as possible.

Setting up the system is simple, there's a few parameters but they are
easily understood and the manual is very complete.
The client already had an 8KW PV system using a Sunny Boy 8000TL. That was
already connected to the load panel so we didn't have to do any solar
installation.
The Sonnen Eco uses frequency shift to turn off the inverter. This does not
work when it is grid tied, so it can't stop the inverter backfeeding the
grid, which is a problem for us. There's going to be a fix for that shortly
that will allow us to use a contactor to disable the inverter.

If you have clients looking for Lithium batteries, this is a very clean,
very easy to install and configure system.
I will post pictures after I finish the clean up, we are making a wooden
shroud to hide the conduits.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Interconnection for multi-meter setups

2016-06-14 Thread Jerry Shafer
Wrenches
We do allot of these ourselves and, it seems each is different but the last
one was 18 units plus the common all got load side taps with fused 30 amp
discos, we have also had line side but your panel is hard bused and a load
side is the only way. There is a new breaker out but last I heard it is not
UL approved I have left them messages with no response. Our utility
requires disco's so it works out OK this way. the paperwork is crazy for
this with all the little systems.
