Same here. Kyocera was very good at providing replacements and covering
reasonable labor.

The KC 120 had some issues with soldered connections on the module
looks like a cigarette burn from the back or maybe just a blister, it
will be on the shrt side of the module. Anyway it will drop the module
in half most of the time or try to work while it burns the poorly
soldered connection, it will also get bery hot as it is arcing inside.
You need the SN# and call the manufacture if its on there list it
might be replaceble they can tell you. As I recall its a C that is the
SN that has an issue but check to make sure.

I have replaced entire arrays because of this.

Wrenches,

I troubleshot an underperforming off grid array today and found
low Voc's in 4 out of 10 KC-120's (nominal 12v modules rated at
21.5 Voc and 7.45 Isc). Modules are vintage 2000.

Under modest sunlight (500 to 600W per M sqd) 6 modules measured
from 18 to 19 Voc and 4 Isc. Four modules measured from 9.6 to
13.7 Voc and 4 Isc.

I was chased off the roof by a coming thunderstorm and did not
check for bad diodes. These modules have nice old school J-boxes
with 6 diodes per each module.

Am I looking at a diode issue, or failing modules?

[RE-wrenches] Underground Use Listed J Box

2014-06-12 Thread AllSolar
Does anyone know the particular listing requirement for a Jbox used underground?
I have installed a pvc Jbox as a splice / pull box which will be buried, except
for the lid, for access. My inspector is requiring that it be listed for that
use. I cannot find it and my supplier says it is.
Is a handhole box needed?

[RE-wrenches] Lumos LSX250 modules

2014-06-12 Thread Chris Worcester
Hello Fellow Wrenches,

I'm interested in using the Lumos frameless LSX250 Series 250 watt modules
on an upcoming project. It's a 9:12 pitch in deep snow country, and I like
not having a frame to worry about getting scrubbed off.

I can see that wire management will be an issue upfront although their LSX
rail system does provide for some of that. We are coupling these with
Enphase M250 micro inverters, another wire management issue.

We do have a set of 4 glass suction cups to be able to put a handle on them.
What else??

They say their Canadian, with an office in Boulder, Co.

I am wondering if there are others installing these and what experiences,
along with the pro's and con's are in advance, thanks!

2014-06-12 Thread Solar
Silicon energy has a similar product. I've used the suction cup with their
product. The one thing I head about the lumos module is to be careful when
bolting the module down. A friend of mine cracked one when he tightened it
down. He said lumos was good on replacing the broken one by just charging cost
for a replacement.

Hi Chris,

We have a complex 86 kW commercial job with Lumos 250s we’ve just kicked
off. We have not installed them yet so I can’t offer a whole lot of advice
except that the module leads won’t reach each other in landscape
orientation so I’d recommend a standard portrait layout. The rails also
need to line up perfectly since the modules mount with the four
through-holes.

We will be landing our panels in about 3 weeks so I should know more then,
feel free to ping me if you haven’t made your decision yet.

Best,

I have systems up in snow country and we used to have issues with frames
but once they were glued no more issues, solarworld is glued and many
others also. The wire management we have done is small gutters that fits
the wire and j boxes altogether any good sheet metal shop can brake long
gutters for you even in color if you want.

Hi August,

We are doing a simple portrait layout with them so the whips being short
hopefully won’t be an issue, into our Enphase M250’s. The XTrack can help micro
adjust the rails, I’d keep a calculator in my bags to do A² + B² = C²
triangulation on the rails & the mounting bolt holes!

We do have a set of 4 glass suction cups to be able to put a handle on them.
What else??

They say their Canadian, with an office in Boulder, Co.

I am wondering if there are others installing these and what experiences, along
with the pro’s and con’s are in advance, thanks!
