[RBW] WTB: 62cm Hunqapillar Frame & Fork

2020-05-22 Thread Keith Muller
Hey all,

I’m looking for a 62cm Hunqapillar frame and fork. I only want the frame and
fork. I don’t need any parts or a complete bike. I’m looking for a Waterford
produced Hunq. Paint condition doesn’t mater, though I’d prefer something that
doesn’t have nice paint. I’m planning on doing some modifications to the
frame, so the paint will be coming off. Let me know if you have anything.

Thanks,

Keith

HED also does the Belgium Plus in a rim brake model that has a tubeless

[RBW] FS: Two Schmidt Edelux II Dynamo Lights

2016-05-30 Thread Keith Muller
I have two Schmidt Edelux II Front Dynamo Lights that I'm looking to sell.
Both are in really great shape. One I took off my Hunqapillar and
replaced it with a B&M IQ-X. Light was used for about 6 months. Light was
mounted on the Front of my rack, so the lead is long enough to do fork or
rack mounting but not long enough to do a Handlebar mount. The second one
came off my wife's bike. It is only 2 months old. I ended up needing to
get the upside down Edelux for her bike to make things work properly. THe
lead on the second light is 140cm long with connectors attached. I will
post pics tomorrow once I have them. Looking for $125 for each light
shipped. Please DM me with any questions or offers.

Thanks,

[RBW] Schmidt hub drag on my newish hub?

2016-06-24 Thread Keith Muller
I have 3 bikes with SON28 hubs. That vroom and vibration is caused by the
magnetic polls of the generator and is perfectly normal. Switch the light off
when while you spin the wheel and you will feel a change in the vibration.
Also, make sure your front skewer is plenty tight. If it's loose, that can
make the vibration and noise worse.

[RBW] Schmidt hub drag on my newish hub?

2016-06-24 Thread Keith Muller
In a sense yes, but once the hub is spinning at a higher speed the drag is
hardly noticeable. Your spin test in a repair stand is far from replicating
real world use and conditions. Electricity is not free, even coming from a
dynamo hub. If you want the convenience of a self sufficient lighting system
there is some efficiency you give up in other departments, though I'd argue
that they aren't worth arguing about(hehe)!

[RBW] Replacement rim for cracked 36 hole Dyad rim

René,

I have been running Mavic A719s for some time. They are double eyeleted, and
are real sturdy though reasonably light for the purpose they serve and I've
never had to true them since I built them. I run my tension at about 130kgf on
the driveside spokes without a tire on the rim, which puts it at about 120kgf
with a tire installed. They are straight out of the box and tension pretty
evenly. Worth a consideration.

[RBW] Extent of thread chasing necessary on new Riv frame

2016-07-01 Thread Keith Muller
I would chase the BB shell and any of the eyelets that you want to use. Brake
bosses are pretty clean when they arrive. I would also sand the paint off of
the face any eyelets you plan on using. When you tighten a rack stay or
accessorie to the eyelet, I have found that the paint on the face of the eyelet
has a tendency to crack.

The Surly 24-Pack rack won't work on the Hunq. I purchased one and tried it.
To make it work, the rack ends up sitting about 4 inches above the top of the

I have an IRD 11-32T 10 Speed Cassette that I'm looking to sell. I
installed it on my Hunqapillar and realized it didn't work with my current
setup. Cassette was pedaled for about 5 miles and has spent the last 6
months in my parts bin. I'd like $40 for the cassette and that includes
shipping. Direct message me with any questions.

Re: [RBW] Re: Tip for Riv owners with slipping seatposts!

2016-01-10 Thread Keith Muller
Here is a little tidbit that people miss on their rivs regarding a slipping
seatpost. When they produce the frames, the Seat lug has a tab that
connects the slot in the lug together and keeps it from deforming when the
frame is brazed up. In the finish work before paint, they go through and
remove this material so the slot in the lug can function as intended. On
occasion when they complete this process, they don't quite remove enough
material and it can prevent the lug from clamping down correctly on the
seatpost because there is material in the slot of the lug that creates
interference. If you take a file/dremel/some device that can remover
material and clean the slot in the lug up or even make it a little wider,
you can genarally fix the problem without resorting to chemical binders. I
have done this on a few Riv frames and it has always fixed the issue.
Check out the photo I have attached that shows a raw lug. You will see
what I speak of.

Here is a link with additional photos of the frame and fork.

I forgot to note previously about the paint chip on the drive side chainstay.
No dents just paint missing. Also there is paint missing on the kickstand

I live in Lawrence. I own and operate CycleFix mobile bike repair. We have
two Rivs in our household(Hunqapillar and Cheviot). I think at some point I
would like to try and organize a RBW meetup Kansas edition.

[RBW] Re: Atlantis vs Appaloosa

2016-08-22 Thread Keith Muller
I have an Appaloosa, a Hunqapillar, and an Atlantis. They are all great
bikes! They all ride just a little different. My Appaloosa is setup with
a Albatross bar, Hunqapillar has a Bullmoose bar, and my Atlantis is setup
with drop bars. I like the way they all ride in different respects, though
I would say my favorite of the three is the Hunqapillar. It is just so
much fun to ride the way I have it setup. Either option will be a great
ride. If you really want an Atlantis though, pinch your pennies and save
your money up. It is worth the price of admission. You might be able to
find a used Atlantis and save some money that way.

[RBW] XO-2 BB help!

2016-09-16 Thread Keith Muller
Conway,

With a Shimano BB, that is a non-issue. The NDS cup is there to support the
cartridge BB. It's pretty common to see that. The extra thread is there so
the cup can tighten down on the BB before it bottoms out on the BB shell. As
long as the cup is straight in the BB shell, you are fine.

[RBW] WTB: Sackville Backabike Olive Rear Bags - Old Style

2016-09-20 Thread Keith Muller
Hey all,

Another long shot here, but we'll give it a try. I am looking for the
older style Sackville Backabike Rear Bags. These are the ones that have
the two eyelets for the strap you use to lash the bag to your rack. The
new ones have leather straps now, and I like how older ones attach better.
As the title says, i'm looking for the olive color. DM me if you have
anything and we can see where it goes.

Thanks,

[RBW] Re: Shimano DH-3N72 Dyno Hub Light Recommendation

2016-01-28 Thread Keith Muller
Most lights will feature an On/Off switch on the light itself. Some offer
an additional sensing mode(I.e. daytime running light & nighttime modes)

The Edelux II is a very nice setup, though it is expensive. I have it on
three of my bikes. If you are looking for a more affordable option, I
would look into the B&M Lumotec IQ Premium CYO. They have the exact same
reflector and LED that the Edelux II has, but uses a less fancy plastic
housing and aluminum heatsink. I have one of these on a bike and I cant
tell the difference between it and the Edelux II. If you have the money
and want the fancy, go with the Edelux II. If you are on a budget and want
the most our of your dollar, the go with the B&M Lumotec IQ Premium CYO.
As for mounting, you can mount both these lights in the exact same manner.
Your Marks rack has an eyelet on the left side that you can use to mount
the light. You may need to get creative if you have a basket mounted to
the top of the rack. Both lights are designed and have terminals to run
rear lights if you decide to add one in the future.

That will easily straighten without an issue. Please use a derailleur

[RBW] Re: Anybody switched from 58 to 62 Hunq?

2016-03-08 Thread Keith Muller
Daniel,

What bar/stem combo are you going to run with your Hunqapillar? I have a
62 Hunq and run it with a bullmoose bar. I have a 98.5cm PBH, I'm 6'2"ish
and the bike fits me like a glove. If you are a 90cm PBH and are running a
bullmoose bar, a 58 will probably feel great. If you a running an
Albatrose bar, you would be fine in the 62 as well. Just my two cents.

[RBW] Bottom Bracket Use Help

2016-04-01 Thread Keith Muller
Matty,

With the White Ind BB, you need enough threads exposed on the non-drive side BB
cup to thread on the lock ring and tighten it down. Depending on the variance
of width on your BB shell, you may be able to make this work. If you can't
effectively lock down the lock ring, you will eventually run into issues with
the bearing preload on the BB. That's the nice thing about Pill BBs, you can
easily shift the BB +/- 2mm in the BB shell without any issues.
