Re: [RBW] Bikes For Sale: Craigslist, ebay, etc. Fall 2022 edition

2022-12-14 Thread Chris in NZ
Pitching in on the Bleriots as a Kiwi:

I can't see the FB listing, but I expect these to be the same frames I've
seen previously listed on another online trading platform here in NZ at
$1400NZD. If they're now listed at $1800, I'm inclined to believe this is
still in NZD, around $1000USD.
For shipping allow $500 these days.

I would have bought the 55cm frame last year had I not been in the final
stages of ordering a Platypus frame and parts from Riv..

I’ve been keeping an eye on it (I’m a tracking obsessive). Previously at
anchor and on the live map it was outside the port waiting.

It is now showing as “moored” and the live map shows it alongside..

[RBW] Re: Talk Me Out of Building My Own Wheels

2020-10-24 Thread Chris in NZ
Absolutely build your own wheels. I was sceptical a few years ago but was
encouraged by a workmate to do it. Now have several sets with 1000s of
kilometres on them.
I highly recommend Roger Musson’s ebook on wheel building. Includes guides
on making your own tools and excellent building instructions. A piece of
cardboard from a frame box and wooden skewer make a fine dish tool!

[RBW] Introduction from RBW fans in NZ

2018-09-16 Thread Chris in NZ
Hello everybody

I’ve been a member of this forum for a while but haven’t had much to contribute
so far aside from the odd comment on a couple of threads. However, I thought I
would introduce myself in anticipation of a post in the coming weeks once I
assemble a couple of dream bikes (Hunqapillars for myself and my partner!)

My partner and I live in Dunedin, New Zealand, and we are avid
commuter/utility riders as well as occasional cycle tourists. We currently ride
LHTs, have recently bought for short trips and we have a beautiful sage
Hubbuhubbuh.

I had my adult rediscovery of bikes a few years ago when I quit what I was
doing, bought the LHT and spent four months touring NZ. During that tour I met
a guy riding a bike unlike any I had seen at that point, and until I saw that
it had modern Shimano components, I believed must have been a relic.. What
really made an impression on me was that he seemed to glide along the road
rather than ride and couldn’t believe riding a bike could be so joyous (as much
as I enjoyed riding my LHT). I wrote down the word “Atlantis”, and when I
finally had a chance to google it, I fell headlong into the Rivendell universe!
I found out recently from an old blug that this was Caddie Mike - if you’re on
here Mike, thanks!

I met my partner shortly after I finished that tour and indoctrinated her into
cycling for fun and utility, eventually built her a LHT also, and we both ended
up with Albatross bars and a longing for a Rivendell bike...
We thought the HHH might sate us but ultimately we both needed singles too! We
pushed the button on two Hunqs in January and just received them. Once I’ve got
them assembled I’ll report back...

Chris
