[RBW] Re: Crazy Idea: Riv National Jamboree
My vote would be for the Bay Area. I would be up to organizing a casual QB/S1/SS ride on a weekday before the Jamboree. [RBW] Re: Announcing Rivendell Grin Fundo!
I'm in! Pretty much in the same boat across the board. I'm looking for a sleeping bag tomorrow and will borrow the rest of the gear from a buddy. I want to take my S1 which is my only Riv bike but I don't have the bike legs on a trip like this. So now I have to pick a bike from the stable which are either under geared or under racked. Borrowing a bike was tempting. I'm struggling with how much water to bring so any suggestions would be helpful. As for food - I'd be happy just eating a Super Burrito but don't know if that would keep or travel well. Maybe just a bunch of bars, fruit & nuts. I'm still debating on the Nesbit - I enjoy/require coffee in the morning but debating if I can just get by with an instant Starbucks pack and just have it cold. Whiskey - Yes! I'll bring something along as well. AD -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Here's my wife's newly built AHH. She was torn between this and a Betty. We just couldn't pass on the price on the Hilsen. Re: [RBW] Re: The Rivendell Bike Weight Thread
I have a 20.5 lbs SimpleOne with magnesium bottom bracket, Brooks titanium, Paul levers and cantis, JB greens, Phil 36h (can probably drop some weight with 32 WI), cut Nitto seatpost. Minimizing the weight was just for kicks as the bike is regulated to family rides on the Iron Horse trail. [RBW] Re: Things I wish Rivendell still sold..
56cm Quickbeams! Everything and anything Paul, Phil & White Industries. My bike is the one splurge and I want to eventually put a Paul crank and seat post on my SO. I'd love to purchase them from Riv but will probably go to Bens or EBay when it's time to replace them. Something similar to Rapha's City line or Outlier would be nice too. [RBW] Last Call Quickbeam
I was lucky enough to pick up one of the "Last Call" orange Quickbeams yesterday. This is the one bike that I've wanted since I discovered RBW awhile back. My plan is to strip the lightweight components off of the Simple1 and keep the QB as light as possible. I'll build the S1 back up as a farmers market bike with spare parts. It'll be a summer of Riv SS riding. Enmoot anyone? AD -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Nitto Front Racks
Hi all, Thank you all for your input on front rack compatibility with a canti- brake bike. I now have a Nitto mini front rack (and Honjo fenders) mounted on my ride (see link to photos). The Nitto just looks impeccably made, with nicer welds than the VO, if that counts for anything (I'm not sure it does). http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905387@N04/5388732538/in/photostream/ As far as the fenders go, I came out of Jitensha Studio with what I thought were extra long 650B fenders. Maybe something was lost in translation and these are meant for 700c? Or maybe that's just the look of the extra long. Do you think these could pose a danger in the course of my every day riding? I do run fire trails on weekends... In all, I'm enjoying the new additions. I've got my ear tuned for any clanks or clatters, and so far, none. I love how the bike handles in the turns and on hills, very steady. Thanks gang, Adam On Jan 10, 9:10 am, Montclair BobbyB wrote: > Tubus are indeed fine racks... [RBW] Re: Nitto Front Racks
Thanks all for the encouraging words. To answer some of these questions: @ Thomas: the cream head tube is not standard. I knew from the beginning it was an extra expense that I was going to spring for. Riv luckily had an unpainted 48cm frame in stock which knocked down the price a little... So yes, those are Honjos, and they are extra long. Whaddya think? Does it look funny? It's possible they were meant to be extra long on 700c tires (mine are 650B). Are there any guiding principles on how much coverage fenders should provide, etc? I did a lot of flickr searching and these are possibly the longest I've seen. Although if you look at Jan Heine's randonneurs from an online sample page of Bicycle Quarterly or in the Reader, his are pretty long too. @ William: yes, I may just use some spacers in there...I'm a little clueless about what makes a good fender line other than just eyeballing it but I am game for making the right tweaks if anyone has suggestions... @ Minh: yes, I've got the fender mounted to both the Nitto platform and I'm also using the fork crown daruma. [RBW] Orange Sam in Dupont Circle
On a visit to DC from Oakland this week. Yesterday I walked by an orange Sam just like mine in Dupont Circle. Hanging out at Kramer's while I write this. Is that one of you guys? Good to see that striking orange amidst all of the other bikes. I noted a few Public bikes out here as well. [RBW] Thanksgiving ride through Napa
Hey all, Took a nice ride with family through Napa last weekend and snapped a quick photo. This is my first ride out with the SOMA B Line 38mm tires and Shimano 3N71 hub: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26905387@N04/6442207405/in/photostream In case you're wondering, the handlebar angle is a little off since I had just swapped out brakes and levers. I am enjoying the Tektro CR720s far more than the IRD Cafam cantilevers I had on the original build, which squealed no matter what I did. See ya at the garage sale. I'm up for a ride!
