Re: [RBW] Bluelug Visit to Rivendell (Video)

2023-10-30 Thread Johnny Alien
I'm very confused by the Gallop now. They took what was a road frame on the
lower price scale for RIvendell (the Roadini) and are going to replace it
with a higher priced lugged road bike? Even though they already have the
Homer that could fit that category well? It was originally designed to be a
road bike for sweptback bars and v brakes (which is unique) and now it
seems to be a drop/albastache bike that can be setup with sweptback bars if
you like. There is just so much crossover with this frame now. Will even
says "like a homer but with more standover space". But that was a Cheviot.
I'm just a bit salty because the original dream of Clem priced, bars with
sweep, and v brakes all on a road bike was something unique for them. But
for me it doesn't matter because I have the proto-clem that checks all of
those boxes.

Re: [RBW] Bluelug Visit to Rivendell (Video)

2023-10-30 Thread Mike Godwin
Pump peg for the Charlie HG should be in the front. That is the perfect
place to gouge a hole in one's shoulder. But, I guess a pump would not
wedge tight in the obtuse angle of the top tube/seat tube lug. Better to
place it on the seat stay.

The Charlie looks like such I nice frame, the new lugs are beautiful
and I think I can put up with the sidepulls. It will probably be my next
frame purchase. I have time to save up the pennies too, I guess.

The new Susie has it's swoop tube intersecting much higher on the seat
tube. This is good. Definitely the weak point of the frame design.
I am glad that I have my OG Susie though. The light tubing makes it
such a great bike and I love the fillet brazing. Wouldn't change it for
 the
 world.

Thank you for this PSA. I was on the list, but I had changed my phone
number and email address since, so I did not get the notice. I was able to
purchase 2 of the flat style, which is what I wanted. The grooved style was
already sold out. Now they are all sold out, probably should have bought 4
of them.

[RBW] FS: Olive Sackville Medium Saddlesack & Space Age Technologies Booster Pack Messsenger Backpack

2023-10-30 Thread Daniel Rooke
Hello,

Two things for sale:

One olive color Medium Saddlesack - the old style without the dowel. I
bought this used off the list a couple years ago but only used it once
myself. Used a little previously - mostly the wear is to the leather pad
on the bottom of the bag. I’m just not really a saddlebag person so I’m
going back to panniers. A really nice bag in great shape though. $190
shipped.

This is Riv adjacent - I think they sell or sold a musette bag from them on
the Riv website. A green Space Age Technologies messenger backpack. This
is the booster pack model. It’s a really nice bag I just bought it when I
lived in a big city and couldn’t leave any bags attached to my bike. Now I
can use panniers thankfully. This has seen limited use and is in excellent
condition. Bag info
$180 shipped.

If anyone needs more info feel free to ask. Paypal is best.

Thanks

Re: [RBW] WTB: basket bag for wald 137

2023-10-30 Thread George Cline
The Wald bags aren't bad and relatively cheap at $41. I've had one for a
couple of years now. It lives outdoors a lot and the color has faded but it
seems to be holding up well. I'm not real hard on it.

Re: [RBW] Craigslist, etc 2023

2023-10-30 Thread Joe Bernard
That poor Hunq looks like it got overclamped in a repair stand. Clamp the
seatpost, people!

The price is optimistic with the damage and visible rust but it probably
rides fine.

There's no 54cm Hunqapillar with 26-inch wheels, I'm not sure what size
this frame is.

Re: [RBW] Rapid Rise Resurrection

2023-10-30 Thread Ryan Ogilvie
Happy to report that this guy works quite well on a 11spd. For the time
being,

I swapped out the jockey wheels from my 105 derailleur and on the stand it
works great. We'll see once I put wheels to dirt/pavement.

This guy (an RD-M951) came with one jockey wheel (the guide (top) wheel)
which was secured by a male hex m5 machine screw. The fasteners from my 105
were too short for that wheel, fine for the tension wheel (as was the
bottom tension wheel screw). Not sure what's going on--if guide wheel is
wider on this model--but currently working fine.

I have replacement jockey wheels on their way, but still curious if the
jockey wheel machine screw is different for the top (guide) wheel.

Cheers,
Ryan

[RBW] Re: Expert level bike commuting strategies?

2023-10-30 Thread Michael McArthur
Lots of good advice here. On the head space front, I have a couple positive
thoughts that I keep bouncing around - cycle commutes are the only time I
get paid to ride my bike. The $$ saved over other commuting modes means
cycling isn't just an expensive hobby. I also consider the exercise of my
9mi commute with 430' of climbing to be the easiest way to find time in my
day to get the heart pumping. I mean, I'd have to spend time commuting
anyways.

I've landed on tubes instead of sealant for the lack of hassle of
maintaining tire pressure and drying sealant. I pump up 1x per week to keep
my 29/30 psi. On carrying stuff in, my strategy is to leave a pair of shoes
& towel at the office to lighten the load. I have the equivalent of one
pannier worth of stuff to bring, so use a porteur rack & bag to keep it all
centred. Fenders and 650x48 slicks stay on year-round to manage lousy
pavement while enjoying the ride.

Lastly, commuting is great way to make sure you bike is ready for the
longer weekend rides. You can fine-tune fit and ensure everything is
working before you headed to the riverside camp spot.

Hope this helps.

Looking for the last piece of my Appo build. Does anyone have a nice, used,

Thanks!
