Thank-you very much for creating one, John. Look great !

[RBW] Re: Riv Riders Interactive Map is Live!

2023-03-12 Thread John Rinker
Thanks to all who are contributing to the Map of Rivendell Riders. It's
growing!

Please remember that, if you wish to provide your address, it should
include your city and state as well. Otherwise, I'm not sure Google maps
can place a pin for you. And, if you don't want to provide your address you
can use map coordinates, but you don't actually have to write the words
Lat. and Long. These you can just copy from a nearby place on Google maps.

Cheers,
John

[RBW] Re: Riv Riders in Western NC

2023-03-12 Thread 'Gary L' via RBW Owners Bunch
Steve, I agree that July 4 wknd would not be the best time for a gathering
as Asheville gets mobbed then. But if we can find a suitable date I’d be
happy to help with some organizing of the gathering. Seems like the biggest
hurdle is getting a date nailed down. Any summer date would probably work
for me, but I’d suggest late May/early June if we wanted to avoid July 4.
Not quite as many tourists here then.

The Wilson Creek area is beautiful - but is pretty remote and about 1.5

for a riv. It's also only about 15 min from downtown Asheville. There's
also a growing urban bike trail that includes roads, bike paths, and
breweries lacing through town that is a fun way to get to know the town
(and the beer). And, a new bike store named "Gravelo" just opened in town
and although they don't sell rivs, they are very familiar with them and
always ooh and aah appropriately when me and my other riv pals go in

[RBW] Re: Seat Post Slippage

2023-03-12 Thread brizbarn
I had the same problem with my Appaloosa. I did not grease the binder bolt
at the head, or the threads. It slipped on my first ride, then broke when
trying to tighten it down more. I had an extra nut and bolt at home that I
grease in both spots, and it has held tight since. Something easy to
overlook on a build.

[RBW] Re: Riv Riders in Western NC

2023-03-12 Thread Steve
Gary, May would be a good choice. September is generally a bit quieter as
well. I'm guessing most would prefer a weekend???

I'm thinking a 3-4 hour ride at Bent Creek early in the day and then
possibly an afternoon to early evening ride on the River Arts District
greenway concluding with a stop for food & beverage.

Anyone want to weigh in?

[RBW] California bike route advice - Lompoc to Santa Barbara

2023-03-12 Thread Jim S.
Hi all,

This is a shot in the dark given the late notice, but tomorrow my son and I
are going to ride, as the title says, from Lompoc to Santa Barbara. I'm
wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best route?

Adventure Cycling has us taking California 1 south to Gaviota Beach, and
then following 1/101 along the ocean into Santa Barbara.

For whatever reason, Google Maps hates that route. It wants us taking 246
through Solvang and Santa Ynez.

I guess my primary concern is safety. Has anyone ridden either of these
lately?

Any thoughts appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I like the Sugino Mighty / Super models. The one you show is the swaged
version, it appears anyway from your photos. Dare I say, the asking price
is high for a swaged crank.

Have not ridden that route since 1986, but 246, and I suspect to 154, ya'll
got a big hill there. But an awesome downhill to Goleta. 101 has OK

Re: [RBW] California bike route advice - Lompoc to Santa Barbara

2023-03-12 Thread 'Eric Norris' via RBW Owners Bunch
Not lately, but I’ve ridden that same route many times. I love it. Leaving Lompoc on San Julian Road, there’s about 20 miles of gentle uphill, followed by a great downhill to Gaviota. The coast highway is busy, but the shoulder is wide. I’ve never had a problem. Keep in mind that there are very few opportunities for water or food between Lompoc and Santa Barbara. The rest stop at Gaviota is the best place to water up. –Eric NOn Mar 12, 2023, at 6:20 PM, Jim S. wrote:Hi all, This is a shot in the dark given the late notice, but tomorrow my son and I are going to ride, as the title says, from Lompoc to Santa Barbara. I too have been planning a ride along that route, and I found these plans for a
bike path/trail connecting Guadalupe to Gaviota. I haven’t found anyone who’s
ridden it, nor have I been able to determine its status: is it open, planned,
proposed, or just a study?

What’s the story? Does anyone know?
