Re: [RBW] Re: What size fenders on your Platy?

2022-03-08 Thread Tom Wyland
Roberta, no, but thanks for offering. I have the same fenders. There is
plenty of room for the fenders but the tires rub on the stay clips when the
fenders move side-to-side. I'll keep an eye out for a wider fender or
maybe switch to the SKS 55s.

[RBW] Beige sks fenders

2022-03-08 Thread Matt Beecher
Does anybody know of a source to buy the beige SKS fenders? I'm looking
for a 700c set for a Waterford Atlantis. The tires will likely be 38, so I
assume that means I should use the P55. I might consider the P45, if that
is all that I can get my hands on.

Best regards,
Matt in Oswego, IL

Does the SKS fenders deform slightly if the fender width is slightly
greater than the distance between the stays?Plastic fenders can't be
indented.

John,
You don't dent the fenders, you just trim them with a knife or tin snips.
My SKS P50 longboard are narrow at the stays from the factory, similar to
the photo below. It's not so great for keeping things clean in that area,
but makes simplifies install.

[RBW] Roaduno 2022 concepts

2022-03-08 Thread Bill Lindsay
There was an Instagram post showing that Riv has prototype samples of all
sizes of RoadUno, inviting us to come test ride them. I just emailed Will
to find out if they really have a 57 ready to test ride for me. Has
anybody ridden one at RBWHQ?

I haven't seen numbers yet, but since they say "designed for swept bars"
I'm going to take them at their word that I won't be putting drops on a
RoadUno. I think my urbanscorcher version of a RoadUno might have Riv
Bullmoose bars. What would you run?

My Chocomoose is currently installed on a 68cm Schwinn Traveler built into
a single speed and kind of serving as a placeholder for a build I
eventually hope to move over to a RoadUno... atleast the bars/inverse
levers, and saddle.
I have mine currently slammed, though it's been adjusted at times between
slammed and an inch or two of exposed quill and re-slammed again recently
while fitting a basket. The frame has a 62.5cm top tube ctc with 73deg
parallel angles and honestly not sure how this would correlate or compare
to whatever the largest RoadUno geomety will be but I'd anticipate a
similarly slammed Chocomoose on my own build with Riv's tall headtubes and
some extra standover with slope.

After trying a few different builds I'm really enjoying the uninterrupted
grip using the inverse levers on the Chocomoose and definitely plan to try
these first.

Agreed. I am the same. I use a shorter stem for Albastache vs drops. So on
a bike made for sweptbacks an Albastache would need a very short reach stem

I have bullhorn bars on my Wabi Classic single speed but it is built for
that or drops with a short top tube. I could see using the Tosco bars with

[RBW] Tire choice, tubeless vs. tubes

2022-03-08 Thread Richard Rose
Greetings. I plan to install either Rene Herse Juniper Ridge (48mm) or
Umtanum Ridge (55mm) tires on my new Clem Smith Jr. It currently has G1 all
round tires in 2.25" width (57mm). Running tubes currently, considering
tubeless. I actually quite like the G1 tires but they are heavy. I weigh
170 lbs. and use the bike primarily for mixed surface rides, preferably
smooth gravel / hardpack including light touring / bikepacking. I have the
Fleecer Ridge (55mm) tires on a different bike and they are pretty great
tubeless. I am leaning towards the Junipers to insure ample room for
(future?) fenders but interested in others opinions, especially on a Clem.
In any case I will likely use the standard casing and the rims are
Cliffhangers. I have had favorable comments from a couple of Juniper users
but have yet to talk to anyone using the larger tire.
Thanks!

the stem for different length if that doesn’t work. Has anyone had experience
with VO adapter and stem and how does it compare to nitto . Don’t want to
invest /commit to nitto given how expensive they are compared to VO.

[RBW] Re: VO Stem opinion

2022-03-08 Thread iamkeith
No opinion on the VO adapter, but I'd venture a guess that a 120mm stem is
still going to be too short. Personal preference and fit will of course
vary, but I had an alumunium non-bullmoose Bosco bar on my Clem, with a
140mm quill stem, and it was just barely long enough. The atlantis has a
much shorter top tube. (Depending on the vintage of yours, it might be
MUCH shorter.) 1" quill stems in the 140 -150 mm range from the 80s are
pretty plentiful and easy to find. Ritchey made a good one. Another tip
is to get one with a wide clamp, to minimize the bar torsion that feels
flexy. I know people often cut the end off the bar to make it work when
it's too close, but I would advise against that too - at least until you've
had time to try it uncut. The sloped and front horizontal parts are
interesting as secondary grip positions, but mostly in concept only.
What's really nice is having that long primary grip position to move around
on.
