[RBW] Re: Silver2 shifters have arrived!

2019-11-28 Thread Marty Gierke, Stewartstown PA
Added a pair to the basket, along with a wildlife hatchet. Been waiting a
while for both, so it's good timing. Plenty of kindling to make for the
winter, and I get to mess with the shifters like a worry-stone until the
mounts arrive, or Spring - which ever comes first.

[RBW] Re: Quick introduction and Clem parts questions

2019-11-28 Thread Justin Kennedy
I have a spare set of Albatross bars with with a newish Nitto stem, cheapo
Shimano levers, and a sun race friction shifter, all from Riv. Let me know if
you’re interested. I can give you a good price. I live in Brooklyn.

I have some spare pedals and other things to that may be of interest in setting
up the bike. Again happy to give a good deal.

2019-11-28 Thread David Bivins
Hi Nerl,

I have a bunch of miscellaneous parts including bars, stems, pedals, etc.
But I'm not as smart or organized as anyone else on the list. I live in
Park Slope on St Marks Pl. You are free to check out my basement and pick
amongst my bits and pieces. Maybe between Justin and me you can get most of
what you need.

[RBW] Re: Silver2 shifters have arrived!

2019-11-28 Thread RichS
Congratulations to Grant and company for bringing the shifters to life. A
lot of emotional and financial equity here. Hope they sell a bunch of them.
I use my original Silvers as bar ends and downtubers. I'll be curious to
hear how the Silver 2s compare when used in this manner.

[RBW] Re: Clem Smith Jr, 7 month and 2200 miles in

2019-11-28 Thread Jason Fuller
Zed,

Your record-breakingly thorough review of the Clem continues to be
enlightening, as I only just found it yesterday! After falling hard for my
Hillborne, I got to daydreaming about replacing my vintage MTB commuter
with a Clem H. What struck me especially is that the 52 ended up being a
bit too large, since I'm almost identical size to you (80.5 pbh, 5' 8.5")
which, despite the >800mm standover and >600mm top tube, lands squarely in
the middle of their recommendation for a 52. It did sound huge on paper.
I wish, and I imagine you wish too, that there was a ~49cm frame!

Wow they are gorgeous! I can’t wait to get ‘em on a bike. The original
Silver is great but may be slightly long for my taste as bar ends. These
will be perfect!

Re: [RBW] Silver2 shifters have arrived!

2019-11-28 Thread Joe Bernard
"How do they differ?"

Shape and length. They copy an old Suntour (SunTour, Sun Tour) thumbshifter
which is shorter and has a curve in it similar to a Shimano bar-end. I
personally love the long flat blade on Silver bar-ends for the shifting action,
but anyone who's used them on Albas or Boscos can tell you about getting
trapped "inside" the bar or stabbed in the leg with that long dagger. Not fun!

Thanks KJ and for all the PMs - I have a few messages out to folks and waiting
on prices. I will be getting a Specialized Strongarm crankset triple with
42/32/24t for $10 but I’m still looking for something nicer and with the 46/30
chainrings (or just the chainrings). Couple messages about one 94bcm triple to
double setup already and an IRD. Still waiting for the right thing or prices on
a few so please keep the options coming!
