[RBW] F.S. 55cm Bleriot frame set

2017-01-26 Thread Les Lammers
I'm offering my original owner 55cm Bleriot with Chris King head set,
Pletscher kickstand and SKS fenders. But wait there is more...a
fresh bottle of Carol Hanson Marine Scene touch up nail polish. Your toe
nails will match the frame and you can also touch up the chips shown in the
photos. :-) Frame will be shipped in the Riv box and packing that my
Chevoit came in. No worries. Frame is in excellent condition. No issues or
rust. A few minor paint chips on the frame tubes. No chips on the
chainstays.one minute chip on the fork. Overall a very nice example. I also
have a NIB set of Tektro 559's and 42cm Noodle bars.

Asking $500 plus actual shipping. It will be here for a few days and then
will be also offered elsewhere. I'm not a robot and will be happy to talk
on the phone etc. two three nine eight four nine two one five seven

[RBW] FS: Germany Army Trainers (GATs) size 9.5 / 27.5 - $80 shipped

2017-01-26 Thread Belopsky
I just got these as an alternative to Adidas Sambas / more fashionable in
some circles.

They have the same sole as the Sambas, feel nice and comfy, too. A more
subtle shoe IMO

Wore these in my home but determined they're too slim for my EE foot - I
basically wear Birkenstocks year-round now if I can help it.

Quick shipping!

Nice pic Mark! That's a happy kid! I love the idea of having her up front
and being able to talk to her while we ride, point things out, see her

Re: [RBW] Re: Clementine baby carriage

2017-01-26 Thread Sky Coulter
Love the stage-by-stage pics John. Ya, I think the clementine is about
perfect for me for family rides over the next couple years. Easy on/off,
comfortable and I have an easier time of going slow on it, which'll be nice
for the ten and twelve year old kids when we go on family rides. My wife
loves yer bobike mini with the windshield. I think that weehoo trailer
looks great for letting a child join in at times and then simply relaxing
and enjoying the scenery at others. Definitely one I'll consider in the
future.

I think next up we'll be buying a covered trailer for River so that my wife
can take her out on her Betty comfortably.

As I recall, the Bleriot is basically a budget Saluki (which then became
the Homer). So, it has 650b wheels and should clear a 42 mm tire plus
fenders.

That's a fine frame with a very cool name and graphics package. I love the

you, it's a good price and there aren't a lot of them out there. Get it!

This is a pretty good deal IMO. If I had a spare 650B wheelset I'd be

I'm curious why these are more comfortable than the Noodles (I ask as

[RBW] dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread Patch T
Almost most definitely have narrowed it down to the Busch+Müller Lumotec
IQ-X and the Schmidt Edelux II, and now I cannot decide between the two.
I would love to hear from anyone has had experience with both, or anyone
who knows enough about both to help way the technical pros and cons.

- they'll run off a SON28 hub
- mounted to a Nitto Mark's rack for now
- mounted to a custom rack and/or a Tubus Tara in the future
- city riding and night time trail riding, the occasional long tour, the
frequent s24o...

Thanks, bunch.

Love,

[RBW] Re: F.S. 55cm Bleriot frame set

2017-01-26 Thread jeffrey kane
It's a great bike at a great price.
PBH 81.3 will fit fine (and man, that's such a specific measurement that I
don't even want to think about how you got it) .
It fits 42's (Hetres and/or Baby Shoe Pass tires) AND Berthoud S/S fenders.
And will fit either Tektro long reach calipers or Dia Compe CP's with the
fenders (with a little massaging)
It's every bit a Saluki except for not quite as buttery a fork (or at least
as buttery as the Toei made Saluki forks).

I know all this 'cause I have both a 55 Belriot and a 54 Saluki ... both
are retired and I've been too damn stubborn to put them up for sale at the
smart price that Les has here. So thumbs up to you, Les .. and if your bike
sells quick (as it should), I'll follow your lead and offer my two
dust-gathering babies up for sale with a similarly generous pricing scheme.

Good luck to you ... good bikes deserve good homes.

[RBW] Re: dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread Philip Kim
i've used both. can't go wrong with either i don't think. i prefer the
edelux. the IQ-X has a plastic band that wraps around the lamp and secures
and fixes it to a rack/wherever. i also prefer the edelux beam, the IQ-X is
plenty bright, but the beam is a bit narrow for me.

[RBW] Re: dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread Shoji Takahashi
Hi Patch,
I have IQ-X running off SON28 on my Hunqapillar. It's mounted to my Nitto
Mini Front rack and connected to a rear fender-mounted tail light from Velo
Lumino.

Thoughts to consider:
If you move to a custom rack in the future, how will you want to mount the
light? Edelux II cannot be mounted "upside down"; for that you would need
to purchase the hanging version. The IQ-X can be mounted upright or
inverted. You have to loosen the mount, but that's straightforward to do.

Will you mount a rear dynamo-powered light? IQ-X has two terminals; I think
hanging Edelux II is grounded to the housing; I don't know about regular
Edelux II. That might be important for how you would connect rear light.

BTW: for trail riding, I think you'll need a secondary light (e.g.,
headlamp). The cut-off on IQ-X is terrific for commuting and keeping light
out of the eyes of oncoming traffic. However, you probably want light above
the cutoff for the trails.

Good luck!
shoji

Hi Derek,
I'm 81 PBH, too. (Saddle height ~70.) I ride 56cm AHH; there's little
standover with Compass 650x38 tires. 55cm Bleriot would work for me,
probably you, too.

If you're using upright bars, no problem. If drops, then it depends.

good luck!

[RBW] CHOPPED Bosco Bars

2017-01-26 Thread ant ritchey
has anyone tried this? do you have photos of your endeavor? over-all
feelings?

i've tried the Bosco's on 2 different bikes and ended up going with
something else. Mostly because I felt they came back too much. Now I'm
trying to get a nice-lookin' (preferably Nitto) bar that's got quite a bit
of rise. I know that for this project I will once again find the
mega-far-back-reaching Bosco to be too much and am considering buying a
pair and hacking a few inches off either side. Also considering first
trying the VO Left Bank.

thanks for any input!

I did; trim-to-length, works for me! Just be aware that only the last
couple inches are reamed out for BES.

Actually, am no longer using my Boscos and happy to move 'em on -
they're alloy and in overall good shape, and I can verify the
(modified) width tonight. Call em $80 shipped? Ant gets first dibs.

Re: [RBW] dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread Eric Norris
Patch:

As others have noted, the Edelux (I or II) is a somewhat nicer product in terms
of finish (for instance, the Edelux has a glass front, while the IQ-X’s lens is
plastic). If you’re into finely polished German tech, you should buy the Edelux
II.

OTOH, I have have both lights on different bikes and I prefer the light output
of the IQ-X. In my opinion, it is noticeably brighter than the Edelux, and puts
usable light much farther in front of the bike. I have mine adjusted to light
up the road over 100 feet in front of me. The Edelux II puts out more light
than the Edelux I, but really any of these will provide plenty of illumination.

For my money, I prefer the IQ-X. It’s not finely polished, and it has a plastic
clamp assembly that the Edelux doesn’t, but it’s less expensive and crazy
bright. YMMV.

I had to trim my fenders at the chain stays when I went to 42mm tires +

about how to reshape them at the stays - learned that later - but I'm
really not sure given how much they interfered that reshaping would have

Update...no pix yet. My mixte arrived yesterday. That bike was sure
lovingly packed; I think you could have dropped that box from a 6-story
building and had a gorilla dance on it and bike would have been fine. Nice
packing job but no cat drawings - boo hoo :)

Took us about 3/4 of an hour or so to carefully cut off bubble wrap and
semi put the bike together ...so sitting in my living room...prettiest
thing in the living room

It is a sight to see in the flesh. Long chainstays and all, the
proportions are really pleasing and the craftsmanship is exquisite. The
colour I chose is beautiful and I'm stoked with our component choices. This
is not a winter beater,,,but can't wait to ride it in the spring. Looks
like for the 3rd time in my world, Grant and company have hit it outta the
ball park. And as always, a total pleasure to deal with. Was a long wait,
but totally worth it.

Re: [RBW] dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread Peter White
The IQ-X gets to full brightness, 100 lux, at a lower speed than the Edelux
II. At high speeds, the Edelux II actually gets a bit brighter than the
IQ-X.

The beams are shaped differently. The Edelux II beam, as well as the Busch
& Müller CYO Premium and Fly Premium which all use the same reflector, are
wider at the top of the beam, and the IQ-X beam is wider close to the bike
than the others.

I have the Edelux II on two of my bikes, and the IQ-X on a third. Frankly,
the differences in beam shape and brightness are simply too small to get
excited about. On a 2 mph steep climb on the dirt roads around here, the
IQ-X gives me a better view of the road, along with any snapping turtles
lurking in the bushes, waiting to pounce. On a steep descent, the Edelux II
is a bit better for seeing a moose cavorting with a squirrel. Overall, it's
a wash.

If you commute in all weather, with sanded roads in the winter and cars
kicking it up, the glass lens of the Edelux II will hold up better than the
plastic lens of the IQ-X. The magnetic reed switch of the Edelux II will
probably outlast the switch on the IQ-X. But if you just leave the IQ-X on
all the time, as I do, how is the switch going to wear out?

You could decide on the basis of which you like the look of more. Or you
could always do the sensible thing and flip a coin.

[RBW] Re: dynamo light decisions: Lumotec or Edelux?

2017-01-26 Thread 'Jack' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have the IQ-X and the Edelux II. Both are good lights, but I like the
beam of the IQ-X a little better. The difference isn't huge, but it's
there. The Edelux II probably has a better quality build, but the there's
nothing wrong with the IQ-X. And the IQ-X costs a bit less. But as the
others have pointed out, you can't go wrong with either.

Not to derail, but I just bought the bm eyc for a more budget conscious build
(hasn't arrived yet)and will be connecting to a sp-pv8. Anyone know what
connector I'll need? This was really easy with the edelux, but the bm wire
interface looks different in pics than the edelux or sp plug.
