Looks like it's an M (guessing Maxaway), followed by a sequential number...

PS: Must've been a delay, I didn't see your Bleriot reply before I posted
the other number info; I wouldn't have gone through the Waterford stuff,
etc., if I knew it was a Bleriot at the time.

Bleriot was a project w/ QBP to get a more affordable Saluki-like 650b out
into other bikeshops. Made in Taiwan (and, I shouldn't have had the extra
A in Maxway).

Good bike.

The Bleriot serial # is most likely just a sequential number. As far as I

Only thing I could find were that the Bleriot lugs are stock Riv lugs and

The s/n doesn't have the same number of digits as a Waterford, based on the
post about that, so I guess made in Japan or Taiwan?

Re: [RBW] Nice ride

I do my best... We are fortunate in Indianapolis to have a rapidly
expanding network of multi-use Greenways. The picture is from the canal
towpath, one of my favorite commute routes. The sights change with the
seasons. In midsummer I ride in past floating turtles and fishing herons. I
get up a bit early to make sure I can go down the path at the speed I want
to travel. The ride home is always therapeutic.

Re: [RBW] Do you use tire liners in your Nifty Swiftys?

2012-08-04 Thread PATRICK MOORE
FWIW, I tried Mr Tuffys in non-Tourguard Paselas (559X32) and very
quickly removed them: the added drag was very noticed, at least I
noticed it. (I can feel the added drag of Pasela Tourguards, too, for
what that is worth).

Interesting anecdote; when I first rode my Ken Rogers trike, I was
greatly disappointed, feeling that the machine rode like a real dog.
"What did I just get myself into?" I thought. Then I had the bright
idea of opening the tires up: sho' 'nuff, Mr Tuffys. I removed the MTs
and installed relatively light weight presta tubes in place of the
rather heavy Schraeders, and wala, a very delightful improvement in
the feel of the machine. (Said machine, alas, has been sold to raise
needed funds; but after putting several hundred miles on it I decided
that, if I must sell one machine, it would be the trike, because as
much fun as it was, it's not as nice as a bike.)

Mr. Tuffys help but are not proof against thorn punctures.

[RBW] Expensive padding, part 1

2012-08-04 Thread PATRICK MOORE
Lizard Skins DSP 2.5 mm bar tape: $38 at my LBS and I wondered if this
was a foolish purchase. Well, extravagant, perhaps, but not foolish.
It is better than any other bar tape I've used, not that I am an
expert by any means. Thick enough to provide more comfort than most
other tapes, but not so thick as to feel mushy. "Tacky" and textured
-- your grip feels secure. Long -- no problem wrapping a normal bar
(tho' 48 cm Noodles -- I dunno). It has a small diamond pattern that
feels good and, as for looks, I think it looks rather nice: I got the
bright red.

Did it fix the numbness/pain problem with the always problematical
outside pad on my left palm? No, but it seems to have mitigated it
slightly compared to other, cheaper and less padded bar tape.

I don't wear gloves, so I am somewhat particular about my bar tape.

Next up: Spec Body Geometry shoe inserts.

Hunq is J10050. We can stop worrying about that, it was just me.

[RBW] In praise of gloves

2012-08-04 Thread Eric Platt
This morning, instead of going over the old-time jam I usually attend,
decided to head down to Jim Thill's shop for the Saturday morning ride.
Was a nice, relaxing ride with a great breakfast stop at Seward Cafe in
Minneapolis. What was left of the group decided to do some exploring.
Rode over to the Prospect Park water tower (aka witch hat tower) in
Minneapolis, MN. Everything was fine, and I even found a shortcut to avoid
a busy stretch of road. Just as we get to the tower, I start riding on a
path with a couple friends. Well, my SimpleOne decides to drift right off
the path, I correct and next thing you know, wham! Down on the ground.
Left knee really skinned. Hands stunned and left side hurting. Yeah, was
dumb and put the left hand out just like you're not supposed to do.
Luckily no collarbone break. Hands still hurting 10 hours later, but the
Rivendell summer gloves did their job. Prevented serious road rash. So I
should be able to attend the music festival later next week and play guitar
for hours and hours backing up fiddles and banjos.

What was really bad is this took place at about 6 mph. Definitely feeling
old and dumb tonight.

Except for a slightly shifted brake lever, the SimpleOne had no issues. In
fact, got me back to the shop where the ride started without any
complaint. It's a lot tougher than I am.

[RBW] Re: In praise of gloves

2012-08-04 Thread Tom M
I do like those gloves. When the weather starts to get cold, I wear silk
liners under them. Glad your injuries weren't any worse.

[RBW] Shimano CX70s

2012-08-04 Thread Ginz
Is anyone running the new Shimano CS70 canti brakes? They look interesting
with the linear springs but the pads don't seem to be standard. I would
hate to give up on my salmon koolstop pads.

They are about half the price of Pauls and might be a good option.

Any thoughts?

Ginz
