[RBW] Re: 59 cm Riv custom (Curt Goodrich)

2011-05-27 Thread Tim Smith
The bike is still for sale, and everyone who emailed me will get the
specs and
photos, early next week when I have access to my files and the bike
again. Have
been dealing with a medical emergency this week.

Sorry about the delay.

[RBW] Re: Decision Potential

2011-05-27 Thread Thomas Lynn Skean
Now, *that's* encouraging news! Thanks!

Presuming then that standover might be okay...

If the effective top tube length is only 1.5cm longer than the
Hillborne (the RBW geometry PDF has the Hunqapillar at 62.5cm vs the
Hillborne's 61cm), then I'm confident the Hunqapillar would fit
overall with my current cockpits; the bar being a little further
forward won't bother me. If it's actually 3cm longer (64cm vs 61cm, as
hinted at some point in this thread) then I'm a little more concerned
about it.

But it's looking up! Definitely in the "worth consideration" category.

Thomas Lynn Skean

[RBW] Re: WTB: Tan Handlebar Bag

2011-05-27 Thread Thomas Lynn Skean
Hi!

The Duluth Pack web site's display of bike bags is very disconcerting.
Does anyone else find it odd? They seem to have the candy bar bag
floating or resting on the cable housing. The "hobo"-style bag is
shown as a saddle bag, connected to nothing. And perhaps for good
reason; it looks like it's straps are too far apart for saddle loops.

Since first sight I've thought that the photographer had never
actually used a bag on a bicycle. Or even given ituch thought.

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean
P.S.
I have a Duluth pack "Field Satchel" which, with the addition of two
leather straps, actually makes a decent pannier.

I just got a Hunqa w/ a sprung Brooks and can comfortably ride it w/
regular shorts, no padding etc. That being said, on a B-17 et al, try

There's a story there--briefly, they made bags for Rivendell (designed
by Rivendell) but the contract/partnership was dissolved. Duluth
continues to make the bags and sell them under their own name but as
you observed, they don't seem to know much about them other than how
to make them...

[RBW] WTB: Brooks B 17 (Saddle lament)

2011-05-27 Thread Lesli
Anyone have a B-17 they'd like to sell or trade for a new Specialized
Toupe? Experimenting with saddles for randonneuring. I'm a Selle An
Atomica fan but I want to experiment with some different shapes in the
next month. On longer rides, in 600k range, I'm finding it difficult
to stay comfortable in this saddle (the usual soft tissue
complaints). I've experimented with up/down, fore aft positions,
etc. I'm a long distance cyclist and I'm beginning to think that my
saddle issues will never quite be resolved giving the abnormality of
my rides.

I made a silly purchase of a Specialized Toupe with chromo rails
thinking that synthetic padding might the answer. After one try, it's
up for trade/sale to interested parties. What was I thinking?! I
missed that hard back platform of a traditional leather saddle.

Any comments on comfort level of the new Berthoud saddles?

Re: [RBW] WTB: Brooks B 17 (Saddle lament)

2011-05-27 Thread Rene Sterental
Hi there!

I have a couple of B17 saddles I'm going to pit up for sale, all I'm
basically like new conditions. I switched to the Berthoud Touring
saddle and find it more comfortable since it's flat on top and like
the shape a bit more as well. With the new stiffener I've had no
twisting at all.

I have a black with copper rails/rivets, I have a narrow one in black
with standard rivets and I believe I have a brown titanium one as
well. I may have another one, but in need to check as I've already
sold a couple and cannot quite remember what I have left.

Contact me offline if you're interested.

[RBW] Our Memorial Day Hours and Special Offer

2011-05-27 Thread John Bennett
Dear Friends on the Forum,

We are open Saturday the 28th, but closed Monday, the 30th.

It was Memorial Day 2002 that Mark fired up the Company Grill for the
very first time. We will miss his BBQing, but the last couple of years
have been slow on Memorial Day, so we're going to try closing, and
just see how it goes.

We have a special web-only offer to ease our anxiety about not being
here. Read about it here:

http://www.rivbike.com/blogs/news_post/360

And have a great weekend.

i just removed a b17 from a bike and replaced it with a wtb pure v
saddle. me and my butt buddy seem very pleased at this time. we like
the b17...and we are thinking maybe the wtb is a nice alternate.

[RBW] My Quickbeam is finally complete!

2011-05-27 Thread Rocky B
Here's a pic of my QB from my crappy camera phone:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/45300901@N04/5766307666/in/photostream

Two things...
1) Riding fixed is fun and its a great workout - I've been riding the
QB fixed for over a month now.
2) Midge bars are very comfy - I'm loving the short reach and shallow
drops a lot.

Re: [RBW] My Quickbeam is finally complete!

2011-05-27 Thread PATRICK MOORE
Coming back to a road-y bike (Herse) with multiple speeds and
freewheel after so many years of nuthin'-but-fixed I must say that
having even a 2X5 drivetrain (the Herse has a 42/32 X 13-28 Ultra six,
in fact) is, as the man said in the Four Yorkshiremen sketch,
"Loooxury!". I did an out-and-about ramble today of 22 miles on the
Herse, ending up with a load of about 20 lb to carry up a 1 mile long,
steep hill against a headwind (most of it ridden, I say, in the 32/20
and only bailing to the 32/24 on the last few hundred steepest yards;
avoided the 32/28 altogether!) and I must say that it was a relief to
have lower gears to shift to.

I have one of the wtb speed v saddles and for the $25 it is definitely
worth the shot. I've been pretty comfortable on it for a couple
hundred miles now.

we'll see how it works for the longer haul.
