Kelly, A heads-up on the cowboy shirt. They sleeves and bottom hem might be a bit short for you. Am 6' and have two of the XL shirts. They work with rolled up sleeves and untucked over a t-shirt. Not Grant's fault. It's the way Rockmount makes 'em. Otherwise, yeah, the current Rivendell clothing choices are very nice. Am wearing a Viyella tartan right now. Don't know if you are referring to the cotton hat or the woolly stubby cap: http://www.rivbike.com/products/show/woolly-stubby/22-137 I love my woolly stubby (current version, bigger bill). Re: [RBW] Re: RIV Clothing I've been trying out
I have two versions of the older orange colored ones, and wear them year round. They are excellent for summer sweat management, although one (With green embroidery stitching) suffered color bleed until washed several times, while the other (with blue embroidery stitching) did not. Lately, I have appreciate Rapha caps both the Summer lightweight tightly woven cotton and the Spring/Fall heavier treated cotton caps. I've ordered a new woolen cap from Synaptic and will weigh in with observations after getting it and using it. The RBW cotton caps aren't a great solution for me. Too flimsy for cold weather, and not good at sweat control in hot weather. If I lived in a drier clime, say near Mt. Diablo, I bet they'd be just right. I mostly wear wool. Been using some of Jackie Walz's caps for several years now. I've emailed her to see what fabrics are avail and sort of semi-custom bought. [RBW] Re: new sweaters/vests
I wear Old Navy stuff sometimes. It's durable/comfortable enough, usually looks halfway stylish, and of course, it's really inexpensive. To say that MUSA shorts are on par with Old Navy quality might not be untrue, or the insult it is intended/interpreted to be - except that MUSA shorts cost a lot more. They're worth it though. I have two pairs of MUSA shorts and live in them 8-9 months a year on and off the bike. I've ridden many 100+ mile rides in MUSA shorts (and many in Old Navy swim trunks for that matter). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. In addition to my beloved WW vest, I also use regularly: --one of the first RBW ball caps (tan w/blue bill) and still wear it a lot, mostly in the summer. It's my favorite gardening hat, and the dark blue bill has faded considerably. --A couple years ago I sprang for one of the short-billed RBW caps, a reincarnation of the older, thicker BOB "mechanic's" cap. I'd had the BOB cap but it was simply too big for my head, so I gave it to a friend. The RBW version fits me much better and mostly sees use at work when I'm trying to hide especially bad "helmet hair". --a pair of MUSA shorts. They're a touch short-waisted for most women, I think; but mine fit just well enough to be useful. On the bike with Andiamos, off the bike with regular unides, very comfortable and breathable summer-weight short. Because they're very lightweight, the pockets don't really transport anything of weight very well (like wallet or keys) but that's a small price to pay. Because of the overall fit I doubt I'd ever buy the pants or knickers, and frankly I have better-fitting choices in that department anyway. (LADIES! -- Swrve makes the best-fitting, best-looking knickers for women EVER, and very affordable cotton-blend versions can be found on eBay. Like MUSA, they're made in America.) --a seersucker and a railroad shirt, one each, both of which I wear often. I'm especially fond of the railroad shirt, which has softened up beautifully with successive washings and now feels like my favorite oldest pair of Wrangler jeans. The seersucker shirt is nice enough to wear under a vest at brunches and other "dressier" things, and cooling on warm-weather rides. --a Woolistic LS jersey, gray with the red-green-black striping. It's a little thin; holes began to appear after only a year of regular use (as both a jersey and a casual indoor sweater), and I have dutifully stitched up each tiny hole as it appears. Compared to my Oregon Rando jersey, also made by Woolistic, the Riv jersey isn't holding up quite as durably and I doubt I'd buy another. Sicne Woolistic moved manufacturing to China, I feel less inclined to support them in the future; and there are several excellent choices for US-made wool jerseys now. (I'm particularly fond of Kucharik, which Rivendell has carried for some time; but there are others.) --my Slapts are the funkiest-yet-most-functional Rivendell item I've purchased to date. [RBW] Stolen - Yellow Ed Litton (Bay Area/Oakland)
Sorry if this isn't Riv-related, but I know there are a lot of Bay Area people here, so I thought I'd put the word out. A friend of mine had her bike stolen last night in North Oakland last night, an Ed Litton custom, bright yellow. Her name (Nina) is written on the top tube (if it's not been scratched off). There aren't too many of them in the world, so if you happen to see a yellow Ed Litton frame around, chances are it's hers! Send an email if you hear anything. [RBW] Tires for 26" wheel Atlantis
I've always used Panaracer Pasela 26 x 1.25 for my all-around Atlantis. But now, Rivendell no longer carries them-- in fact the only 26" tire Rivendell has right now is the Schwalbe Marathon GreenGuard, and (a) I don't want something that wide and (b) why would I buy a tire that I can't get on the bike? [RBW] Re: Chilly Hilly?
Looks like I'll probably make it too. As far as meeting beforehand - there is a Starbucks just North of the terminal where we could meet, if we get there EARLY. Last years 8 am ish ferry filled up, and I went to Sbux rather than wait in the cold for the next ferry. We could also try to meet somewhere on the ferry - perhaps on the lowest level at the "rear" or Seattle facing side. It should be the least crowded. Gentle-Folk of the Wheel, this is your friendly reminder to drop everything and get out for a ride this Saturday! Should be 70 and Sunny, so no excuses. There's a good bail out option if the mileage and or distance seems too much. Yours truly might have to consider that as I spent the last two weekends earning spousal credit points rather than doing intervals as suggested. [RBW] FS: VO Constructeur Front Rack, Big Apples, Noodles
I have a lightly used VO Constructeur Rack that I'd like to sell or trade for a Mark's Rack. I want a front rack that can mount my dyno light out front as far as I can get it. It was a chromed rack that I drilled for my MTB Rivenized commuter, so it should fit just right on a late 80's or early 90's mountain bike (26" wheels). I left the extra steel so it can still be drilled for 650b or 700c, as well. I paid $75. Would take $50 or a used Mark's rack trade. Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stonehog/sets/7215762597834/ Schwalbe Big Apple 26 x 2.15 (55x559) wire bead, kevlar guard tires that I purchased from Rivendell. These are super cushy, but I am currently running Kojak 2.0s and only need one pair (have 2) of Apples. They have less than 500 miles on 'em with no blems. I would take $45 for a pair if anyone wants to experiment with some extra air. Nitto Noodle 46cm Bars - got these used, and never came to terms with them. In good shape. $50 Let me know off list - I prefer paypal - we may have to talk shipping as I don't know rates/best practices... So I'm thinking about making a new bag for my front rack. I'd like to finish it by Chilly Hilly (however that only gives me three weeks) if I do. I'm thinking a design similar to these - http://www.guu-watanabe.com/tabi.html although maybe a slight bit smaller. Large enough to hold my camera, gloves and some snacks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
