Nc is a big state. Where are you moving in nc? The weather in the
mountains is cooler and dryer than in the rest of the state. But in
general it is hot and sticky.

There is a randonneur group here too.

Good luck on the move.

It does, but with a much shorter forward reach that a Noodle, and a
really obnoxious reverse curve in the so-called anatomic drop that
completely ruins the bar IMO.

+1 to that. I have a set of the ritcheys on a tandem and I'm thinking
of swapping out the front ones. Too little distance on the ramps and
the drops are all oddly-shaped, not in a good way.

[RBW] Ram owner in Red Stick

2009-06-06 Thread carnerda...@bellsouth.net

Riding in Baton Rouge on a beautiful, unseasonably cool morning and
met up with a gentleman on a Miyata tourer with a larger Loafer on the
back rack. He reported that one of his other bicycles is a
Rambouillet. He is not a member of the RBW owners bunch, but I
encouraged him to sign up.
May be a pipe dream, but I am trying to find enough Rivish riders in
the NOLA, south Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf coast area to organize
a ride.

Hey Kevin,

Lots of riders in NC. Big state though. Where ya headed? I live in
the mountainous western side where the weather is brilliant and riding
superb. For the most part we miss the notorious hot and muggy summers
of the rest of the state. Winters can be quite cold (usually early on
in Nov/Dec) but definitely still rideable. I use fenders pretty much
year around. WNC is known for its incredible mountain biking, but the
road riding is easily as good, if not better, and there are a lot of
mixed terrain options, too. There is a new Riv dealer just south of
Asheville in Flat Rock.

If you're into the rando thing, there are 2 active groups in the
state, both offering a full brevet series, one in the Greensboro/
Winston area and the other in the Raleigh area. Good mix of great
people. If you're moving to WNC, Audax Atlanta is closer, and their
brevet series is in the beautiful North GA mtns. I love the routes
there.

[RBW] No Boo Boo

2009-06-06 Thread Bruce
Wore my Boosuckers for the 1st time on a ride today. How could I not get a pair
with a name like that? And with the reflective tape on the leg backs, hope
springs eternal that some gal, any gal will look back there... But I digress...

Wore them last night around the house. Very comfy. Put a new chain on the
Saluki and changed tires as well, and the shorts felt light and moved well. Fit
is great.

Today they went on the club ride (Boo-Yay again) over mixed surfaces and I had
no complaints. They don't grab or get uncomfortable when sweaty. I did not
ride with a chamois, just my regular boxers. The seersucker shirt clashed color
wise, so I topped them with a black merino Pendleton Tee. Looked good together
in fact.

Came home, was already pretty grungy so I mowed the yard in the same get up.
Still super comfortable and after hanging up to dry, I am sure they'll be good
to go tomorrow on a short relaxer cruise as well.

Compared to my butternut MUSA shorts, the Boosucker is softer and lighter, and
doesn't seem to flap in a headwind as much. I wear the butternuts off the bike
too, but they still look like bike shorts. These shorts look good anywhere.

And there's always a chance the reflectors will catch someone's eye

Tailwinds..

[RBW] Wheels North Video Report: 4 Weeks to Go!

2009-06-06 Thread Eric Norris

Just four short weeks from today, the Wheels North riders will depart
Santa Rosa and point our bikes toward Seattle, 1,000 miles away.

A video report from today's local WN training ride is available at the

Wheels North is a fundraiser for charity. You can donate securely
online--go to www.wheelsnorth.org and look for the "Donate Now" link.

[RBW] Re: No Boo Boo

2009-06-06 Thread EricP

Had mine for a few days. Not only comfortable on the bike, but also
off.

For what it's worth, have most of the different MUSA shorts (khaki,
grey, olive) and these are different. Softer feeling, yup. And like
Bruce said, don't seem to flap as much.

Have to admit, though, for a whole ensemble effect, might need to get
a pair of knee high black socks to go with the Boosuckers and
sandals.

Also, haven't worn a seersucker shirt with them yet. However, the
grey stripe might work. So far, it's been either a black or grey(ish)
merino tee.

For me, the reflectors probably won't work. My Carradice bag is
probably covering them up on the Hillborne.
