Re: [python-uk] who wants to hire my friend Ian?
hang on a minute, it's been like, more than 3 days, and I find out none of you has hired Ian yet? are you mad? this is a self-taught programmer we're talking about here! these people are some of the most motivated, hardworking, innovative people in the industry. and he's making a career switch! so you can have someone with actual experience of working in a real job, a proper grown-up, but for almost-as-cheap as a 20-year old who struggles to get out of bed before 10:30am. this man is like gold dust people! snap him up! Re: [python-uk] who wants to hire my friend Ian?
I'm also a self-taught programmer, and I've been looking unsuccessfully for a developer job in the UK for over a year now (living in the US, UK/US dual citizen). I think what makes it difficult in my situation (besides being overseas) is that I've been working as the only Python developer in the same company for 8 years - for senior roles companies want developers who have had experience within a Python team, and 8 years experience is too long to be considered for other roles.
