[python-uk] PGDay UK - July 7th, London

2015-06-11 Thread Josette Garcia
Dear Pythonistas

Thought some of you might be interested in the above mentioned conference.
There you will not only learn about the latest developments in PostgreSQL
but also have a look at the future of PostgreSQL - its use in banks,
government departments etc. Don't miss Tony Locke's talk - The Elephan & the
Snake: PostgreSQL & Python.

Top speakers at PostgreSQL user conference

The UK's only dedicated Postgres user event has announced an impressive line
up of technology and database software experts to inform and educate
delegates.

PGDay takes place on 7th July at 30 Euston Square in London and is being
organized by the UK PostgreSQL User Group.

HM Government's Chief Technology Officer, Liam Maxwell, tops the bill and
will be speaking about how awareness of Postgres is growing in the UK,
predicting what the future will hold. Database technologist David Kennaway
will talk about how Postgres is being used at investment bank Goldman Sachs,
while 2ndQuadrant's CTO Simon Riggs will be tackling PostgreSQL Futures.

Other topics covered on the day by more global experts include a look the
next version of PostgreSQL (9.5), the AXLE Project, and backup and recovery.

Simon Riggs commented: "PGDay UK is the must attend event for PostgreSQL
users, developers, fans or even if you're simply investigating the best open
source database for the first time. Delegates will learn about features
added to version 9.4, projects under development and the future direction of
the world's most advanced open source database."

For more information about PGDay UK 2015 please see

Would love to see you there.

When I used to do these in academia, I used an A4 printer and blue
tacked them together, used highlighters and crayons to add colour. The
poster is just the conversation opener really, the interactions with
the presenters is the interesting bit.

Hi Everybody,

The second session of London Python Project Nights will be at Skimlinks on
Thursday 18th of June - for details please see
london-python-project-nights.github.io/events.

This is an informal event. The format is likely to be much the same as the
last - people turn up between 18:30 and 19:00, feel free to bring your own
food, or order some in when you get there - if you're working on something
at the moment bring it along, work on it, and share ideas and problems with
others - if you're not working on anything, just bring yourself and maybe a
laptop, and get stuck in on someone else's project. See here for a map of
nearby transport links and food

,

I hope to see some of you there!
