Hi
Another newbie, with problems, what else is new? Finally succeeded to install rh8.0 after figuring out how to delete v6. Now I face the root in text when I wanted to have the gui on and dunno how to get there? Yes, I read the damn book on install and files, I'll write anaconda about that; and the help files too. It's like being tossed into a swahili home with no swahili at all. Do I re-install; terrified to? Might do something wrong he. What's the cmd string to get the gui going? And I'm having problems figuring out what raid, kudzu do, as well as the foreign language in the spetup agent the install book did not tell me to type in at root. The labels in the S-agent don't mean a thing and I did not get the ehlp files instalelds ewither NOR can read the tar zip files in archive because - catch 22 - I cannot get into linux to do this. Also if one sez no to the summaries, does one get any mail or none? I'd like the e-mail in full until I can understand some of it, wot? -- Psyche-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/psyche-list

Typing "startx" should get you going. However, you must have the GUI installed, stuff like X or KDE or Gnome. Did you opt for a server install and left them out? > And I'm having problems figuring out what raid, kudzu do, as well as the > foreign language in the spetup agent the install book did not tell me to > type in at root. You are in linux; just not in GUI mode. You PC managed to boot up right? You should be able to read the help files in command line; try "cat " or "less ", and you can read the help files. > Also if one sez no to the summaries, does one get any mail or none? I'd > like the e-mail in full until I can understand some of it, wot? You'll get the mail individually, rather than in "digest" form where all the mail are consolidated in one. Please let the list know more details of your install. Things like your settings, what install you chose, what steps you took. Don't worry about newbie mistakes; that's how we all learn. Re: Hi
IT would not send to the mbiro address? 2 pm re-installed, watching every file as it came thru, gnu, gnome, xwindow. 1.8 gig of it. I'll weed out later. Did a mediacheck, low res, passed, then again chose personal desktop in auto. It should be there, Booted twice to find the screen go black. IT also complained that I had not shut down cleanly. And so to bed. The personal desktop option installs a gui by default, so it might be a hardware problem. Anyone on the list cares to comment? PPA module in 2.4.20 kernel: can't find media
I seem to have a problem with a parallel port Iomega ZIP drive and 2.4.20. I have seen this on three different machines where the driver used to work just fine. All of these machines have run the ZIP drive successfully with older kernels. To answer two of the obvious questions, I made sure there was media in the drive and that both the media and drive worked under an older kernel. I inserted the PPA module via modprobe. In the case above, a parallel printer was attached and properly set up. I arranged for the PPA driver to be installed both before and after the printer daemon started up. On the other two computers, there was no printer attached. -- Charles Curley /"\ASCII Ribbon Campaign Looking for fine software \ /Respect for open standards and/or writing? re: mysterious routes appearing
I've added various routes in the past, some with route add and some with redhat-config-network. Now I want to delete them all so I used route del and redhat-config-network to make sure they were gone for good. But when I restarted the connection they came up again! I found the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0 that had some in, so I emptied that, deleted them all again, restarted the interface, and they're all back again!! Where are these routes coming from? I can't find any file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts that has the information. I delete the routes using redhat-config-network but when I run redhat-config-network again, the routes are back. Any ideas?
