Postfix Queue Problems (mail is stuck in queue)

2008-07-26 Thread InterXS - L. Croese

Dear List,

I am having problems with postfix where email gets stuck in the queue
for no reason.
Nothing has changed recently on the mail server and out of the blue
postfix created this problem where emails will either be delivered
just fine or they will end up in the queue and will not be delivered
until manual action is taken.

I have searched through the lists on the internet and tried several
things including upgrading postfix to the latest version, run postfix
flush, run postfix set-permissions etc but nothing seems to help. Even
emails sent locally on the server end up in the queue and at this
point I have no idea where to look anymore.

I also do not see any specific errors in the maillog.

a short version of mailq output:

To correct all M$ Windows(tm) problems, only one small command is
necessary:

format C: (then press y)

Bingo! Your Windows(tm) computer is now secure, stable, and every bit as
useful as before.

Something is stopping and starting postfix or issuing a postfix

That question is, what else is in the queue?
Run "qshape" and "qsahpe deferred"

If there's a lot of mail, things simply take a lot of time.

2008-07-26 Thread Norberto Bensa

Hello list!

I'm trying to move my aliases to ldap. It's somewhat working right now
but I have a question.

It seems that Postfix searches the database by the username part of
the email account. For example if I send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(note that bensa.ar doesn't exist on the internet) Postfix checks for
"norberto" not "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

If I change query_filter to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" then it works, but then
I loss the ability to do virtual domains.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but I don't know what.

Many thanks in advance,
Norberto

As documented, alias_maps is searched by the address localpart
only, and virtual_alias_maps is searched by the full address.

See: http://www.postfix.org/ADDRESS_REWRITING_README.html and pages
linked from it.

Note: you can use virtual aliases WIHOUT having virtual alias domains.

Thank you very much Wietse!!

I changed:

alias_maps = hash:/etc/mail/aliases
 ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-aliases.cf

to:

alias_maps = hash:/etc/mail/aliases
virtual_alias_maps = ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-aliases.cf

and query_filter from:

query_filter = (&(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)([EMAIL PROTECTED]))

to:

query_filter = (&(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)(mail=%s))

everything is working now.

Many thanks again!

Best regards,
Norberto

Processing $myhostname within an LDAP query

2008-07-26 Thread Graham Leggett

Hi all,

For some time I have been successfully running a postfix install backed
with LDAP, and this query works great:

ldapvirtual_query_filter =
(&(|(mail=%s)(mailAlternateAddress=%s))(mailHost=$myhostname))

I have recently installed postfix v2.5.1 (as provided by FC9), and went
through the config to move the LDAP settings into individual files for
the new configuration, so the query now looks like this:

query_filter =
(&(|(mail=%s)(mailAlternateAddress=%s))(mailHost=$myhostname))

This didn't work.

Some digging revealed that the string $myhostname was being passed
literally back to the LDAP server, instead of being parsed and turned
into the machine name as before.

Using postconf, I can confirm that the $myhostname does exist:

myhostname = xx.xx.xx

Has anyone else found this problem before?

Regards,
Graham

5xx or 4xx Lever Error When mySQL Goes Down

2008-07-26 Thread Brian Puccio
Sorry if I missed this information somewhere, but if I have a single
MySQL database that store domains, accounts, aliases, etc and it goes
down, how does postfix respond to incoming mail and can this behavior
be changed?

Thanks!

Can you show postconf -n? Also see the soft_bounce parameter in postconf(5).

Postfix figures out that the database lookup does not complete, it
will NOT conclude that users don't exist. Instead it returns an
error code and mail will be delivered later.

However, if you use PAM underneath libc, then unfortunately the
people who implemented PAM were not as careful, and they will
claim that users don't exist, and mail will bounce.

Heya All,

We have a user whose mail needs to be copied and cached, i.e. we need
every mail he sends/receives to be cached in another mailbox. So even
if he deletes something from his Inbox we have a copy of it in a
‘cache’ account. Is this possible from within Postfix? If so, please
point me in the direction I need to go.
