Alright, let's not remove it just yet. It is your responsibility to keep the package in shape, it hasn't been touched for four stable releases, which is terrible. Please actively push your changes to the git repository on Alioth to make your packaging activity visible. Most importantly, fix the GCC 7 build failure ASAP. If that doesn't get fixed in a reasonable time frame, I'm still in favour of removing this package, as the package in its currently shape should not be included in yet another Debian stable release. > [1] https://github.com/TUDelftGeodesy/Doris > > > Il 07/08/2017 18:51, Bas Couwenberg ha scritto: >> Package: ftp.debian.org >> Severity: normal >> >> Please remove doris from the archive, it is RC buggy and dead upstream. That was on my TODO list as well, since we're not going ahead with the removal of doris. The adore-doris entry still needs to be updated (repo moved to GitHub among others), and may need to be dropped entirely if it's no longer desirable. > I also updated the dependency from development package of epr-api: > libepr-api-dev instead of the transitional package libepr-api2-dev. > > IMO we could totally drop libepr-api2-dev as soon as a new version of > gis-repotesensing and gis-devel are uploaded. Despite the "Depends" in the Blends tasks files, there are actually Recomments in the metapackage that gets build, so the blends package doesn't have to be uploaded before packages it references are removed. > I also noted that git-remotesensing and gis-devel suggest some ossim > related packages that seems to be no longer in the archive: > ossim-plugins, ossim-gui, ossim-planet, ossim-planet-qt, > ossim-package-support > > Shall we drop them? These are not yet in the archive, and may never actually get there. But ideally they should, as they are included in OSGeo-Live and should be packaged properly along with ossim. After the move to GitHub OSSIM stopped doing releases for too long, but they've recently released 2.0.0 for which the packages need to be updated. Each project now has its own GitHub repository for upstream sources, instead of needing to repack the ossim tarball. This is quite a bit of work for just ossim, let alone the other packages, and I lack time and motivation to work on the ossim package more, so this is not progressing noticeably. We need the newer OSSIM for its support of GEOS 3.6 for which ossim is the biggest blocker, and one that looked hopeless until recently. OSSIM 2.0.0 is likely not supported by OTB yet, so there is no rush to get the Debian package updated, I'll get to it eventually again. After which it'll stay in experimental until OTB supports it. Unfortunately SFCGAL 1.3.2 has the same issue. I've forwarded it upstream. The severity of this issue is important as long as CGAL 4.11 is in experimental, the severity should be raised to serious once the transition starts. If the issue is still unresolved at that time, I'll disable the SFCGAL support in PostGIS to keep the latter in testing. I'm quite wary of Thomas Knudsens changes, with this PR he has once again proven his tendency to introduce regressions. Also not learning from that by adding regression tests. > Looks like there are some teething problems with the patch but > upstream are being responsive to dealing with them. Fortunately there are people who test his changes. Unfortunately there aren't enough to do this early in development to catch regressions before they're committed and included in a release. > Thanks for the package in experimental - I'll try to do some additional > testing with Survex and that package. With the patch for the regression introduced by the changes from PR #845 no further regressions were uncovered with the most recent round of rdep rebuilds, so I'll move the proj package from experimental to unstable soon. Re: Comments regarding laszip_2.2.0-1_amd64.changes
Hi Martin, Don't upload laszip to UbuntuGIS or any other PPA, due to the FastAC code not allowing modification the laszip package is unredistributable because it violets the terms of the LGPL. If you want to support LAZ in PDAL for GRASS getting laz-perf packages is a much better option: https://github.com/hobu/laz-perf/ On 08/21/2014 10:17 PM, Thorsten Alteholz wrote: > some files contain the following remark: > // Permission to copy and redistribute this code is hereby granted, > provided - > // that this warning and copyright notices are not removed or altered. > - > > This does not allow modification. There are new GRASS modules based on > PGAL, but not really finished. libLAS is not actively developed any more, it's highly unlike to ever see another release. PDAL is the way forward for LAS support in OSGeo project. And thanks for Howard, there is now an alternative to LASzip which doesn't have license issues. The LASzip saga has been a very disappointing experience, Martin talks big about how LAZ is better dan ESRI's format, but did do any work to resolve the license issues in LASzip which was the only open source implementation. I know that the PDAL support in GRASS is still in the early stages, I've never been able to successfully build the grass Debian package with PDAL support. I'd love to be able to do that, though, and not have to disable it when PDAL publishes a new release (as it took quite a while for GRASS to support PDAL 1.6.0). When the netcdf package switched to using CMake for the build, the static libraries were dropped. Automake based projects build static libraries by default, CMake projects do not. There is not enough demand for static libraries to warrant the maintenance burden of getting them to be built again. > As for the "Software using netcdf should dynamically link" : in between > the ideal of a perfect developpers society always linking dynamically > [...], there are scientists trying to survive in > the real world ... If compiling Ferret links to static netcdf rather > than dynamic lib, perhaps there is a not so wrong reason ? I've not heard a good reason to require the static libraries. If you need the static libraries in netcdf, you'll need to either modify the package to build them again, or build netcdf from source yourself. FWIW, you shouldn't need the static libraries for ferret-vis, the Debian package builds fine with the netcdf shared libraries.
