Works for most streams, and if you can give the direct URL to the stream, so much the better. Steve Matzura wrote: OK John, you've succeeded in the whack-me-over-the-head part, now let's get on to the tell-me-about-it part (LOL). If you set the recording option in TR to Software, it load Winamp, which actually plays the stream in question right through your sound card. The audio is captured from the sound card, not from the stream packets themselves. I know this is true by two proofs. 1. If you use Winamp's down- and up-arrow volume buttons while recording a stream in Total Recorder, when you play the stream back that you just recorded while manipulating those buttons, the volume of the stream will, in fact, go down, then up again. 2. If you record a short stream with WGet (or, in my case, WinWGet, because I like wrappers), and then compare that recording with another short stream from the same source using TR+Winamp methodology, if your ears are good, which mine are not but I've been told this by more than one person with far, far better ears than my broken ones, you'll notice that the TR+Winamp version of the recorded stream has artifacts that the WGet stream does not. I suspect these artifacts are from digital audio being converted to analog, played through the sound card, then re-encoded by TR. Like I said, personally I cannot hear these artifacts any more, but I believe they are there and I believe the reason for their existence is as explained. If TR has a way of getting around this, I'd dearly love to know how it's done. That would make my weekly captures of various radio programs sound so-o much better. On Sun, 12 Jun 2011 06:03:17 -0400, you wrote: Yep, it does work exactly that way -- I don't know what you were looking at. Steve Matzura wrote: I think it definitely should be brought to their attention. Any job in the queue should have the ability to be run on demand and stopped either on a schedule or, again, on demand. That's one of the beauties of WinWGet. Except WinWGet isn't as fancy as TR in that there's no scheduling function, and, to be honest, since WinWGet doesn't use external programs to connect to and capture the stream, it actually make a better, purer, recording because it just captures the raw packets from the stream, doesn't re-encode anything another program is playing. I sure wish TR worked this way, and if it doesn, somebody needs to whack me over the head and tell me about it. On Sat, 11 Jun 2011 18:57:03 +0100, you wrote: Hi. I just discovered cue sheets. I have a favorite Internet radio station that presents titles. I couldn't figure out how to get it to make separate tracks for each song using split mode. Then one day I accidentally pressed control tab and found I was in the cue sheet and that I could manipulate songs from their and all the titles were showing. Re: GoldWave v5.63 (beta) is available - but be careful.
wits it is the latest goldwave? i had ver 5.558 Colin Howard skrev 2011-06-29 01:13: Greetings, I am an XP Home user, because of this, I will await the final release of this - see below. This beta update is not available on the download page. To test this new version, go to http://www.goldwave.com/beta.php On the site page it says: GoldWave v5.63 Beta Beta Version This is a beta version of GoldWave, which means more testing is required before it can be used for production work. Do not install this version if you require a stable version of GoldWave. Do not contact GoldWave Inc. for the beta key. Please read below. Important! GoldWave v5.6X will be the last version compatible with Window 2000 and XP. Future updates will require Windows Vista, Windows 7, or later. If you still use Windows 2000/XP and are aware of any issues in this beta, please report them before development shifts away from those versions of Windows. This will be the last beta update. The next update will be a stable version. New Features · Playback/Recording This version of GoldWave contains significant changes to the playback and recording code. By default, the new Windows Vista/7 Core Audio/WASAPI is used. Previous versions of GoldWave used DirectX (DirectSound) for all audio input and output. However DirectX has been the source of many problems and has been deprecated on Windows Vista/7 where it no longer provides direct access to the audio hardware. DirectSound support is still included as an option in GoldWave and is used by default for Windows 2000/XP. · Media Foundation This version of GoldWave uses the new Media Foundation in Windows 7 to access system decoders to handle a wider range of audio and video files. Previous versions of GoldWave used DirectShow to access system decoders. That functionality has not been removed but it is used only if Media Foundation is unable to open a file or on older versions of Windows that do no have Media Foundation. · iTunes M4A GoldWave can now open and save iTunes M4A files through Media Foundation on Windows 7. Currently there appears to be a flaw in the way Media Foundation handles cover art and copyright metadata. Although cover art can be read from a file, any attempt to write cover art results in all metadata being wiped from the file. To avoid this problem, the only metadata GoldWave writes is text. Cover art cannot be saved in an M4A file for now. · Covert Art Cover art is shown under File | Information. Click on the image to replace the artwork with another image. · Open URL A new File | Open URL command has been added to open a file directly from a website using Media Foundation on Window 7. · Window Layering In previous versions of GoldWave, windows and dialogs could appear on top of other applications. Changes have been made to avoid that. However further testing is needed to ensure that windows and dialogs appear correctly on top of GoldWave's Main window and not behind it, which would make the program appear frozen. · VST The first beta version of the VST plug-in is included. However, there appear to be numerous stability issues with VST plug-ins. Many plug-ins violate the VST specification in a variety of ways and the specification itself has issues. Changes in v5.63 · Enhanced Batch Processing window · Comments in Batch Processing process list · One click recording ("Create new file" option) · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) Changes in v5.62 · Improved ID3 v2.2 tag support (reading only) · Enhanced "/new" command line parameter · Enhanced CD title prefix option · Improved metadata extraction from iTunes/M4A files · New key codes for media/browser buttons · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) Changes in v5.61 · Improved ID3 v2.4 tag support (reading only) · Volume controls in Stereo Center effect · Stricter control of when Open URL command is available · Device "Shared mode" move to Quality list · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) What Needs Testing · USB microphones (mono and stereo) · Very long file/path names (longer than 255 characters). · Batch Processing comments and new layout · Reading of ID3 v2.2, v2.3, v2.4 tags. · Reading of metadata in iTunes and other MPEG4 audio files. · Playback and Recording Make sure you have the latest sound driver from the manufacturer! Using the "Update Driver" button in Windows is not a reliable way to get the latest driver. If you don't know how to obtain and install the latest driver, please do not install the beta. · M4A open and save Cover art and copyright metadata will not be supported until Microsoft fixes Media Foundation or at least provides sufficient documentation to explain how to write cover art to a new file without destroying all text metadata. · Open URL · Window layering · Stereo Center effect · VST plug-in · General overall testing and anything e
Re: audio restoration software
hello! you can use audacity too. but it Diamond Cut cost? you can use audiograbber too G. McFarlane skrev 2011-06-29 02:42: Hi Dave I've used quite a few packages for audio restoration in the past and each usually have their own forté. I've not tried Sound Forge and I know it has good reports about its noise reduction etc. One program I like for versatility - and it claims to be the best of its kind - is Diamond Cut 8 (DC8) available from www.tracertek.com I've usec versions 5, 6 & 7 and have had good results. When I recently upgraded to version 8 it became inaccessible, but with a call to the technical help people, they pointed out a feature which restored the interface to an earlier one and therefore made it accessible again. It has a wonderful variety of cleaners and enhancers - each with their own presets and fine tuning. Most of the boxes can be tabbed around and selections made. The latest version is slightly less accessible than Version 5 - you may have to use the Jaws cursor or the Window eyes equivalent to make some choices, but once you knowwhat you're looking for things do get easier. There are menus and keyboard shortcuts and results can be good. One limitation I've found with it is the navigation and selecting of parts of files. It's great to work on a whole file and noise reduce - if I wish to use part of a file then I edit it to size in Goldwave then import it into DC8 - although it's annoying to have to do so the results are probably worth it. There are one or two nice features in this program - there is an auto clean and enhance which works on the file dynamically as it is running, adjusting itself to the changes in the file. This can be fine tuned too. You can also chain various effects to get the best - they all work simultaneously. Also there is a great batch editor built in which allows all the filters etc. to be preselected and executed on a large number of files at a time. When I upgraded recently, I also bought their small preamp which connects to the output of your turntable - it changes the inputted sound by applying a ria curve to get a more authentic sound. You then use the features in the program to clean up and enhance your file and reapply the correct ria curve and the sound is thought to be as good as you'll get at this level. I also bouth their DVDs on a variety of subjects, in cluding audio theory, cleaning 78s, vinyl and other media, etc. They can be 20 or 30 dollars each but when I purchased the 5 disks I was given them for 50 dollars, very much worthwhile for dealing with a steep learning curve. Some people may have other comments on this program but for my money it's probably one of the best in its range. I think there are good offers to be had on it from the website. It's a dedicated program for noise reduction and enhancement and with one or two other features thrown in. It also has a live function, in which any input can be filterd immediately live. Hope this is of help. Gordon McFarlane -Original Message- From: Dave Bahr Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 11:46 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: audio restoration software Hi list, I am purposefully going to ask a fairly vague question because I'd really like to hear multiple opinions and suggestions. I'm wondering if anyone here is involved in restoring78s and lps through software, and if so, what software do you use and how accessible do you find it? Allow me to elaborate on my current setup if you don't mind. I am presently using goldwave the most but have tried audition and soundforge. I know that jfw has scripts for sound forge but am a window-eyes user. As far as audition is concerned, I can't figure out a way to navigate vst plugins which audition seems to rely heavily on. So goldwave works well and is pretty accessible. But I need more powerful filters than the program will allow. I know that there is a pc version of protools but that is, from what I understand, for sequencing and creating music, not restoring it. I don't know what the pro people use, I'm thinking of the late John R. Davies of jsp records here, they might still use analogue methods for all I know. So, thoughts and discussion is encouraged on this one, I'm interested to see what people have to say. I realize that a lot of the process has a lot to do with finding the best source material available, i'm thinking Mosaic Records and their ability to make the recordings of Bix Beiderbecke into fantastically rich works of art. However, unless you have fantastic connections, it's hard to get into the columbia or victor vaults and use the metal masters and, in the case of paramount records and dial, they don't exist. So, bring it on, and if anyone is interested in discussing this with me off list, feel free to email me. I am just eager to learn. · M4A open and save Cover art and copyright metadata will not be supported until Microsoft fixes Media Foundation or at least provides sufficient documentation to explain how to write cover art to a new file without destroyi

They seem to have conveniently forgotten about the Book Port Plus from the American Printing House, which also has these features. • Mvh Bardia To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Also, you can join Spotify without being invited, and the free service allows you to listen to songs only 5 times and there is a time limit. They only recently changed their free service. Hello, Spottify is a service by which you can listen to an almost limitless selection of songs in a wide range of genras. As far as I could tell, there's no ability to listen to radio stations. You can only join Spotify if someone who is already a member sends you an invitation. When you are accepted, there are two levels of entry. The free one gives you access to everything but there are ads. I don't remember what the fee is but it's worth it if you need to access lots of songs. You are given an edit box in which you place your search term. The problem for me was that, having done that, I couldn't read the search results. It appears to me that the list generated from the search is printed in a non ASCII form. I hope someone finds a way around the access issue because it's a great service. No, you cannot download; you'd have to record the song. with screen reader and operativ system do you use ? - Original Message - From: "Christopher Bartlett" To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Tuesday, April 05, 2011 9:26 AM Subject: Foobar, ripping and a problem I'm trying to use the cd ripping feature in Foobar 2000 1.1.5. I get the conversion settings just the way I want them and hit convert, and then a dialogue3 appears asking me for the location of the flac converter. I've scoured my drive and can't find it, nor can I find a .flac converter listed in the installed components, nor in the installable components from the site. Foobar will in fact play .flac files just fine though, so I'm rather confused. How do I point Foobar to the .flac converter? However foobar is the greatest player i've tried. /A Brett Boyer skrev 2011-04-14 21:15: By now you would think somebody would have done something. I think it's because people who are blind stick to there one or two programs and don't like to explore and try hnew things. If they only knew that foobar is one of the best media players out there. I'm sure it doesn't need to be a very detailed set file since the only thing W E won't read is the main list view everything else is accessible already. ,sigh. bb Brett Boyer Audio Production and voice over http://brettboyer.voices.com - Original Message - From: "Anders Holmberg" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2011 9:18 AM Subject: Re: foobar and window-eyes Hi!
